Re: Healthy Habits Check-In: 4/16 - 4/22

    1. What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week? Last week, I tried to drink 80 oz. of water per day, as I read somewhere that that was the recommended amount for pregnant women. I have a lot of trouble staying hydrated, and if I don't consciously remind myself to drink water, I'll only get 16 oz. on a good day. I've also been trying to reach my 2 mile daily walking goal. My New Year's Resolution was to walk 730 mi. in 2017.
    2. Did you reach your health goals last week? I drank 80 oz. twice this week and 64 oz. twice. I walked at least 2 mi. four times this week and am 22.59 mi. ahead of schedule on my yearly goal
    3. What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week? Same goals as last week: 80 oz. of water per day and at least 2 mi. per day. I'm also going to try to get 6.5 hrs. of sleep per night.
    4. How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals? I told my GF that her first role as doula was to remind me to hydrate. I have 5 water bottles (16 oz. capacity) labeled 1 to 5 to make tracking easier. I'm going to make sure my Fitbit is charged to track walking and sleep. I might do some solo Fitbit challenges and do some Daily Showdowns and Goal Days.
    5. GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain? Besides drinking water, sugar is my weakness. I don't limit carbs because they help with my depression (yay, dopamine!), but I need to start eating more complex carbohydrates instead of processed candy.

Ooo, this is a good one! I'll have to set some goals.

i would really like to walk with my family but I don't think that's gonna happen. We live too close to danger zone of possible Zika, and while everything would *probably* be fine, it's just not a chance I'll be willing to take. Luckily my job forces me to walk quite a bit, and I could probably stand to use the stationary bike at the gym.
  • NME44NME44 member
Adding, we also have already had a confirmed case of west Nile this year near here, so double reason to stay inside while pregnant this year. My poor kiddos  :(
  • I'll do my check in tomorrow, but @pandawares have you seen or heard of this? https://www.ulla.io/ I'm ordering one tomorrow. I'm perpetually dehydrated. I'm legitimately shocked that I didn't dry up while breastfeeding, because I'm so bad about drinking! And it's not just water... I'll go almost an entire day before I realize I have had nothing to drink. So unhealthy! I've tried apps that remind me to drink and they just don't work for me. I feel like if I have this physical reminder attached to my drinking apparatus, I'll have no choice but to drink!

  • Good luck with your goals this week ladies!
    1. What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week? I've been working on having a healthier lifestyle since January, and I have been successful thus far with working out 4-5 times a week. I'm really hoping to get at least 3 workouts in a week during this pregnancy.
    2. Did you reach your health goals last week? I did ! (But I didn't know I was pregnant yet so it doesn't really count lol)
    3. What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week? My goal is to make it to 3 spin classes this week, continue to walk the dogs & cook at home more often!
    4. How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals? The place I work out, you pre book your classes so I've gone ahead and done that & I meal prepped tonight. Let's hope the food I made is still appealing for the next few days.
    5. GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain? My husband works out of town, so I find it really difficult to be motivated to cook for myself. I tend to just grab something that's already prepared when I'm by myself. I'd really like to get out that habit.

  • Uuuugh I've been avoiding this check in but... ya lol
    1. What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week?
Does taking my PNVs count? Cause last week was a bit of a blur, the ILs were visiting, so I kind of felt weird skipping out on visiting with them to go work out. We all did manage to go on a couple of good walks, but ya, no, my workouts were non-existent.
    2. Did you reach your health goals last week?
      See above...
    3. What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week?
Consistent strength training every second day, I am TRYING to finish a hypertrophy program called The Bigness Project, but the workouts are like FOREVER long and this exhaustion is killing me
    4. How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals?
Ensuring I get a decent amount of sleep by going to bed early, and drinking enough water.
    5. GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain?
I was doing REALLY well with the strength training until this past week, I'm really hoping I can keep this exhaustion in check and keep rolling!

  • What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week? I didn't. It was not a good week. I did get outside a bit though so that's a start.

Did you reach your health goals last week? I didn't have any goals set.

What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week? I don't want to set myself up for failure so I am just going to say I would like to make more good decisions than bad ones as far as my nutrition goes. I already cut out coffee and am definitely drinking less diet coke (I have hypertension issues) so that's already a win. As far as being active, I would like to hit 8k steps daily this week. I know that seems like a low goal but my job is very sedentary.

How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals? I am charging my Fitbit now, I am going to go fill up my giant water bottle as soon as I post this and I am going to the outdoor mall at lunch to walk a bit. Granted, that will be with my 9 month pregnant coworker so we won't exactly be power walking lol but it's a start.

GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain? By and far nutrition. I have no self control. DH is a passive enabler and isn't much help on keeping me on track. It doesn't help that he is a manager at a delicious Italian joint and is always bringing crap home to eat.

    1. What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week?
I worked out every other day, and ate healthy during the week, drank lots of water, took (and kept down!!!) my PNVs, and slept well. I also quit coffee and only drank decaf all week long!

    2. Did you reach your health goals last week?
Yes! It was a good week for me.

    3. What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week?
I was too tired last week to join my partner on our evening dog walk, so I'd like to do that at least 4-5 times. And drink more water.

    4. How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals?
Moved the dog walk a little earlier than our old (pre-pregnancy) routine, and bought a new bigger water bottle.

    5. GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain?
This weekend, with Easter/family dinners, not having wine was a little harder than I thought it would be. I felt like I was craving it, and to make matters worse, people kept offering and offering and offering (we haven't shared with anyone). It felt really lonely and isolating to be the only person not drinking. But, on the plus side, I made it through, and hopefully I won't be in that position again.

  • first of all @pandawares I love this thread!  I definitely need a little boost of healthy habits right now to help mitigate the nausea as much as I can.

    1. What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week? Drink more water and move more.
    2. Did you reach your health goals last week? 50/50 I walked 6 miles on Saturday and have upped my water consumption, but with the horrible and perpetual taste in my mouth it makes it a struggle. But I've noticed if I have ice cold water it is more palatable.
    3. What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week? Eating more healthy, nutrient-dense foods.  The nausea has been unreal and nothing ever sounds good. Plus I am tired of carbs (which is what my diet has mostly consisted of to now because thats all I can tolerate or that doesn't have an unpleasant taste.)
    4. How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals? Pack healthy snacks and set an alarm to eat every two hours and make myself a list of snacks I have to choose from.
    5. GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain? Honestly, everything right now.  Feeling queazy all the time has made eating, drinking water, and being active a challenge.  But I keep telling myself that the healthier I make myself the better I'll feel.
    1. What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week?
I'm trying to walk more. Also yoga 1-2 times every week.
    2. Did you reach your health goals last week?
My yoga class got cancelled, and I didn't manage to just do a youtube video -  so not quite
    3. What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week?
Keeping track of how much water I actually drink. I'm good at it in my mind, but I always refill my bottle before it's empty, and sometimes I only fill it up half way (so I'm always drinking cold water), so I actually have no idea how much water I'm consuming. I think it's something like 2.5-3 liters, but I want to actually know! I also want to get out walking at least 5 times. I should also try to eat more iron rich foods (I have low iron) - would love suggestions if any come to all of your clever minds.
    4. How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals?
Having some good podcasts lined up helps me look forward to a walk. Also DH and I are going camping this weekend, so I expect we'll do a small hike or two.
    5. GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain?
Doing yoga by myself. I actually like yoga, so I don't know why it's so hard to just do it!
  • We are half way through the week, how is everyone doing with their goals so far?

  • So far I have been so much better about drinking fluids!!! My OB switched my prenatal and it has helped tremendously.  And I've gone to two exercise classes!  I still need to work a lot on food.  Not a lot of things sound good still. :(

Any tips on eating healthy while feeling nauseous with no appetite?
  • @jesrude awesome job on getting to 2 classes! What kind of classes do you like to do?

Sorry, no advice on eating healthy while feeling nauseous, but I'm interested to see if you get any advice for when I get to that stage. Hope you start to feel less nauseous soon!

    1. What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week?
Eating mostly clean and mantaining a workout regimen
    1. Did you reach your health goals last week?
Nope! I managed to get a bit of walking in at the gym (LOVE cardio cinema!) but my food choices have been awful. I find myself indulging more than I should mately. This week though, I'm proud to say I have been back on track and eating more veggies and fruit.
    1. What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week?
Same things, but I would love to add hiking in the mix. Being SO tired everyday has made even the easiest workouts more difficult. I feel like I have a bag of bricks tied to each of my feet!
    1. How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals?
My hubby also has a gym membership and he helps to encourage me to get out and go with him.
    1. GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain?
Eating nutritiously! Sometimes i look in my fridge and the sight of anything healthy makes me gag. Sometimes, i just need some fried cheesesticks in my life lol

  • @MrsWifey89 thanks for reviving!
@jesrude eat like a toddler! small snacks, cut up food, think raw fruit and veg, cheese and crackers, etc. I've basically been eating the exact same as my 15mo  :D

AFM I've been doing well! 2 strength workouts this week so far! on Monday after my arm workout they were soo jiggly I could barely make DSs lunch for the next day! haha

    1. What health habits did you try to maintain or work on last week? I've been trying to get better about meal planning, to cut down on our last minute takeout dinners.
    2. Did you reach your health goals last week? Not at all! We had SO MUCH takeout! Unfortunately, it was just a really rough week for us in general. This week, though, my fridge is stocked with 3 Hello Fresh dinners, so I have no choice but to stay on track, right?!?!?!
    3. What healthy habits do you plan to work on this week? Hydration!!!
    4. How are you going to help yourself achieve this week's goals? I just bought an Ulla. It's a device that you put on your drinking apparatus that reminds you to take drinks throughout the day. I'm also looking for a new water bottle, because my favorites are all glass and I'm just not willing to lug that around with a toddler in tow. Recommendations welcome!
    5. GTKY: What healthy habit is the hardest for you to maintain? I'm so bad at filling up on unhealthy snacks and then not having room for nutritious meals. I grab whatever is quick and easy whenever I get a chance, just to get something in my system. @kvacmak Thanks for the eat like a toddler advice! That's kind of where I'm at. Needing something healthy to pop in my mouth frequently with this nasty MS!

  • @MrsWifey89 thank you! This week has been interesting.  I've felt slightly better from a queasy/nauseous perspective but got a gnarly cold :(

@kvacmak yes this! I am already trying to do that. and eat portions not much larger than my fist/hand, but everything tastes awful. Even things that worked a week ago I now have to gag down.  My OB said not to stress too much right now and just eat what I can and make the healthiest options possible that don't make me sick. Its so frustrating because all I want are healthy, nutrient-dense foods, but they all make me gag right now. It's very annoying.

    @MrsWifey89 Thank you!

@kvacmak I always eat like a toddler, but a picky one.

@vvitchhazel I got this on Amazon a while back. They have a couple of sizes/quotes/colors. Mine is 32 oz.
