GTKY: Favorite Easter Tradition

I know many people may be off the board today spending time with family, but I'm curious what your favorite tradition is on this holiday weekend.

(Sorry no nifty gif. TB mobile is on strike)

  • We try to spend Easter with family that lives 6+ hours away. DH has off for Good Friday, so we try our best to make the trip.

So far our new traditions since being a family with a kid is going to church in the morning and then my MIL is a part of an association that does a picnic every year. They have an egg hunt, piñata and lots of other fun things for the kiddos.

@awildrose I love the kids getting dressed up. I try my best dressing DD up.

My least favorite part is driving the 6+ hours home on Easter Sunday, as we are doing now. I just want to get home in my own bed already.

  • I always loved helping my grandmother make deviled eggs for Easter. She passed away a few years ago, though, so now deviled eggs just make me cry.

I love everything about Easter, though... baskets, dying and hunting eggs, the pastel colors, kids dressed up, baby animal decorations.. it's all so cute and fun.

  • I just love having Easter dinner with family. We skipped it this year since we were in New Orleans.

  • I just remember dyeing eggs, easter egg hunts, searching for our easter baskets, dressing up fancy and Catholic Church!! Always a big deal ;) I loved it.

  • @Sugargirl1019 are you catholic? Sorry for the strange question, I grew up catholic, went to school at a catholic school, went to mass on both Wednesdays and Sundays. DH and I are going back to church and we've FINALLY decided to go catholic. We had a hard time choosing because he was raised southern baptist. I've always really enjoyed catholic mass! My grandparents always took us to mass with them too, so it's a fond memory.
  • @wyomama0427 I was raised!  DH is not, so we've agreed to attend Methodist. I really really really miss the Catholic Church though!

  • @Sugargirl1019 it's like a weird kinship I feel with others who were raised catholic lol!
  • We make a huge platter of cheeses, meats, crackers and fruit and hang out all day eating, watching movies, doing anything relaxing. When my stepson was younger we did giant baskets and egg hunts and will again in a year or two when the new LO is old enough. DH always makes a ham (which I hate buy understand). When I was little I remember doing awesome egg hunts all over my house and outside. Joys of being an only child - I got all the chocolate.
  • I love Pez! Anybody else? Besides Reeses Cadbury eggs, they are my fav easter candy to receive.

    Forget Peeps.

  • I always go to Atlanta every Easter weekend. But I love seeing Tanner going through his Easter basket.
  • @Sugargirl1019 We always had Pez growing up! I felt so cool when I'd carry mine in my back pocket. Lol.

Favorite candies handsdown: Starburst Jelly Beans and Reese's eggs.

    April Siggy Challenge--Creepy Easter Bunny

  • We always did a big egg hunt around the house in the morning and got a few outside toys for Easter so after church we would spend the day in the backyard playing with whatever we got that year and then go to a big family dinner.

I have since discovered my atheism so Easter for us is more a springtime celebration and a chance to see family and no church. I love the time we spent with DS this year. He was so excited for his egg hunt which made me so happy. He got a kite, a plastic golf set, and bubbles and we played all day. I hope they can all be like that!
