Here we will chat all things A/S related! If you've already had yours, let's hear how it went. If you haven't but have any questions, comments, or concerns, fire away!
Oooh yay! I've been waiting for this thread. My AS is scheduled for next Wednesday, and because we haven't had any other testing (FTS, NT scan, Quad screen, etc.) I'm a little nervous that they might find something, but mostly very very excited to see what my baby will be!
Cool!! While I already know that I'm having a little boy, I'm like @mrsmarygs and haven't had any additional testing. I'm slightly nervous, but really just excited to see our sweet boy again! It's in 2 weeks from Tuesday my doctor specified our AS was at 19 weeks, when it was 20 last time, not sure why but whatever. I'm just excited to see him sooner!
@mrsmarygs mine is Wednesday as well! He said we'd be doing the anatomy scan and then he added "confirming the gender from the cell free DNA" I was like oh, so here's hoping it's actually a girl in there lol! I am so excited!
Our A/S is on Tuesday! We're so excited to see the little guy again. And here's to hoping that the NIPT was right and it's actually a little guy in there!

Ours is in one week. We did Counsyl genetic screening and it was low risk, but I know there could always be other issues. My concern is being team green. I know we'll need to tell the tech (probably multiple times) that we don't want to know the sex, but how do we truly avoid that? I know they may ask us to look away when they get to that part, but I'm nervous it could be super obvious. Overal though, I'm really excited! At 8 weeks our baby looked like a frog, so I'm looking forward to seeing someone that resembles a human, hopefully.

I didn't even give that much thought. We are asking the ultrasound tech to write down the sex of the baby so it can be announced to us all at a later date. Now I'm worried too that they will slip up and spill the beans. I'm going to tell him/her "NO PRONOUNS ALLOWED!" Lol
@MrsVP614 Right, the tech just told us to look away when she was looking in that area. I guess slipping up could happen, but I think for most techs they're pretty good at not. Having fun seeing your little one!
My a/s was Monday and the little peanuts were 11 and 12 oz respectively. Things looked perfect with baby A, but A kept getting in the way of B so the tech was unable to get pics of B's spine and a few other things. We go back in a couple weeks for another. I'll get growth ultrasounds every month until I think 30 weeks and then I'll get them every other week. Yay for seeing the little ones much more than I ever did with my other pgs!
@mrssuperman918 & @MrsVP614 When I went in for the NT scan at 13 weeks, my tech announced at the beginning that she was going to use to pronoun 'he' but that it didn't mean a thing, she just needed to be able to communicate. We did get some clear "potty shots" during that scan, which were pretty telling, even at that point. And it wasn't intentional, just how she moved the wand thingy. Not sure how you can avoid that part!
Ours was this morning. I had an alarm malfunction (it's on my phone) and then couldn't call the MFM because the sound on the phone won't work (so I also got to go to Verizon today, joy). I was 25 minutes late by the time I got through registration.
Babe looks fine, but I need to go back in 4 weeks and do it again. I'm 18+3, and they want better pictures of his heart and spine. They will also check on my placenta, which is "too close" to my cervix (1.33 instead of at least 2). Which likely explains the bleeding/spotting I've been having. Dr said it can still fix itself (as the uterus stretches and grows, it may just drag the placenta up with it).
I went home for a couple hours instead of straight to work. I was a little sore from the tech pushing on me with the wand. Plus I just needed to come down from the anxiety. DH was about 10 minutes behind me, he stopped at the florist to pick up the flowers he ordered yesterday.
Our A/S is 11 days away! I'm so excited to see the baby again, and get 100% confirmation he's a boy. I've already mentioned this, but if that 10% chance comes true and baby is a girl, it's going to take me awhile to wrap my head around that. I think I might even feel a little grief for the son I thought I was having.

And I think that would be completely normal! Dont let yourself stress about it though, okay? Hugs, Tacos.
@MrsVP614 I think the techs are usually pretty good at knowing when to have you turn away from the screen. That said, sometimes things happen. My SIL said that when she did the A/S with my nephew, the very first thing that came up on the screen was his penis. Like, he was positioned just right to say, "Hi, y'all, I'm a boy." The tech was surprised and told her that they usually try to save that particular angle for the end. SIL thought it was funny, but she wasn't team green.
I would just tell the tech I didn't want to know and remind her before she gets to the potty shot.
I had my A/S a week ago!! They said baby boy is measuring right on schedule and everything is perfectly healthy! Quad screening also came back normal as well. He is EXTREMELY active! Every ultrasound I have had he has been flipping around and moving like crazy. Today my OB called him a "wild child" cause he kept squirming every time we found the heartbeat and he'd find it again on the opposite side of my tummy lol!
For some reason my app is being weird and not letting me upload any photos.
My A/S is in two weeks, which is halfway through week 21 for me. It's the first appointment they had available at my hospital. We had early blood tests done, and they came back low risk, but I still would like to know how he's doing a bit sooner!
I bet the techs who do these tests work with so many families who don't want to know the gender, so hopefully they are pros at this!! I love the idea of the pre-approved pronoun, too.
I still have to wait an entire month to find out the gender!!! I'll be on our vacation for my 20th week, and they won't do the A/S before then, so I find out during the 21 week. Kind of a bonus: right after Mothers Day?
We are going in on May 3! We had a great NT scan experience at 13 weeks 3 days, and we are pumped to see baby again. It will be 19w4d at that point. We also are very excited to find out whether we will have a boy or girl. We plan to have a family dinner that evening to share the gender with our family members who are local.
I had my anatomy scan super early at 15.5 weeks. They were very surprised that they could see everything they needed to that early! We saw the chambers and arches of the heart, the kidneys, spine, 10 fingers and 10 toes! Skylar was in the perfect position for it. The ultrasound tech kept getting all excited at the images she was getting We did discover a marginal cord that we'll just keep an eye on. We have another scan this coming Thursday to check on it
@jena333-2 low lying placenta is pretty common around 20 weeks, but is very likely to move out of the way soon. I agree that your spotting is probably related to that. Luckily you have the vast majority of uterine growth ahead of you.
Eta: I am still thinking good thoughts for you that everything looks great at your next scan
We had our on Wednesday. It went really well. The place that does the ultrasounds turns the screen away during so you see nothing. Anxiety inducing to say the least. But when they are done they ask if you want to know the sex and go through all the different parts of the baby. We don't know how everything went till I see my doctor next week so from all appearances it seems good.
Our A/S is April 25th at 19w6d. We know he's a boy with the panorama test that actually got ran twice with two different draws and came back as male both times so I'm not worried about a surprise gender change. Everything was low risk. My 13 year old stepson is coming with us to the scan as well. We talked to the doctor about maybe bringing him. The doctor thought it was a great idea. He's super stoked.
Our AS isn't until May 2nd. I will be 21+2 then. I hate that they scheduled it so late, but the MFM's office will not do any AS earlier than a minimum of 20 weeks. I am so ready for it! Poor DH got all excited and though the AS was at this next appointment on Wednesday. He is still holding out hope the US tech was wrong when she said girl. Lol
My AS is April 27th aka 13 days away but I'm not counting I'll be 20+1. I am excited and nervous. I had an NT scan at 11w and what I think would be considered a quad screen then and at 16w and everything has come back negative. My mom is coming to the scan with us and afterwards we're having a reveal with our parents and immediate families so fingers crossed baby cooperates!

I'm excited to hear all of these A/S stories. Mine isn't until May 10. I will be 20+5 then. I already know he's a boy from the NIPT. I'm both excited and nervous about the A/S. Need to get past the constant fear that something is wrong.
Team green, as well. We were last time and just reminded the tech to not say anything. She warned us when they were doing anything near what may reveal the sex.
Won't have my AS until the second week of May and the wait is killing me!! We haven't seen LO since my 8 week u/s and I'm dying to know the sex so I can start shopping/decorating
@lilpoots No I'm in the US! I guess I'm considered low risk so my Dr. typically only does ultrasounds a few times throughout the pregnancy. We had the first at 8 weeks, then heard the heartbeat on the doppler at 12 weeks, I had a quick checkup this week at 16 and then AS at 20.
We had our anatomy scan today! We are team green and just reminded the tech of that before we went in. She never had to turn the screen away from us, in fact because of baby's position it took until the very end to find the umbilical attachment, so I think baby was being modest With our first the tech did all the upper body stuff and then blacked out the screen for the lower body.
I had bleeding at the end of my first trimester and there were many concerns from my last ultrasound (14 weeks) but all of those concerns have been resolved and everything is normal. I LOVE my doctor, he must have put in a special request because my scan was finished at 2:30 and he called me with the radiologists report at 5! I thought we'd have to wait until Monday!
@hmclaren my doctor does the same! I'm low risk as well and we got a dating ultrasound, hb at 12 weeks with the doppler (every appt after 12 we hear the hb) and our AS at 19. Given there are no issues later, our AS is the last ultrasound from my doctor. But I'm too impatient to see baby again and I'll get at least 1 more elective before he's born!
I have mine scheduled the 28th but FI and I were impatient and wanted to try a 3D so we could get a live recording since he wouldn't be there. We are having a boy. I didn't want to know right away and she put it in an envelope. She did warn me that regardless of sex she was going to call the baby her while explaining things to me but it was no indication of sex before she started. She did ask me to look away when she went down there. With DS1 I didn't know what to expect. They never asked us if we wanted to know and they never spoke a word the entire US (it was my first one ever) at the end I asked her if it was a boy or girl and she was like " oh you wanted to know? It's a boy". For the rest of my pregnancy I was freaked out she was wrong because I never got to 'see'
In case anyone is curious I've uploaded the video here https://vimeo.com/213318080 Password to view is gbaby. It is a private video with no personal information on it. It is mainly 2D but if your curious what a 18w old looks like in 3D it is towards the end. Cannot wait for the baby chub to come in. It's 7m long and she gets the potty shot a few times. Sorry for the weird music they add in.
@jena333-2 I had a low lying placenta with DD at my AS and it moved out of the way by 28 weeks.
I had my AS last Monday at 18+4 and everything measured perfect! Before the tech even told us we could tell it was a girl (pretty obvious 3 lines haha). I have an anterior placenta so we couldn't get any good 3D images, but did get some awesome 2D of her sucking her thumb! I hope everyone's AS goes well and I look forward to hearing about them (and of course seeing the adorable pics).
ETA still won't let me add a pic. I'll try again later. Stupid mobile.
We just scheduled our AS for next Friday I'll be exactly 20 weeks! Our last scan was actually just yesterday and they told us 90% sure it's a girl. FTM here so I'm still not sure how to take the whole 90% thing, lol. I know they can't be 100% sure but should they be able to tell 100% at the AS or if anything like 95%/99%?
Twins here. My office does an anatomy and growth and 16 and 20 weeks for twins. They said sometimes by 20 weeks, things are so cramped they can't get all the measurements, but sometimes at 16 it's too early to get good anatomy. We had our 16 weeks last week and it was great! They could see nearly everything on both babies. They are both growing the same- each 7 ounces. For sure a boy and a girl!
I had my scan done Tuesday but it was a surprise for our reveal party we had yesterday so we didn't actually get to see the picture until yesterday. When we went into to do the scan she asked us right away if we wanted to know then or wait. We said wait but we wanted it to do a reveal party so she just had us look away anytime she went anywhere near his legs. The only issue was the baby was moving a lot and I could tell it took her a bit to get a pic of the babies "parts". When we did the reveal we found it it was a boy. We looked at the scan picture later and realized that it said "looks like a boy" as if she wasn't sure. And in the image itself it does not look like a normal boy part. It was WAY too big. I am beginning to think it was the umbilical cord. We have a son already and we have his anatomy scan picture from 20 weeks (this one was done at 18 weeks) and his looks more like what you would expect. This one just does not look right haha. So we are requesting a new scan to see if we can get a better picture to be certain it is a boy. I read a few posts of people saying they had the same issues with their scans where the umbilical cord got in the way and it took a few tries to find out for sure what the gender is. Anyways good luck guys! Our scan came out great tho, baby is healthy and growing well and the placenta is placed in a good spot so thats good. It was kind of in the way of parts of the scan though.
