Severe Blurry Vision

Hi Ladies, im a little worried as I woke up with some weird vision this morning & a headache. Blurry vision is what I'm calling it, but its more like being sun blind. Like I stared into the direct sunlight for too long, or like bright light in my eyes that moves and vibrates. Makes it difficult to see. It's accompanied with some pressure behind my eyes. I called my doctor's office, so I;m just waiting to hear if they want me to come in or not. As many of you know I'm a FTM, so I am freaking out a little. Has anyone had this happen to them and it was just random pregnancy symptom/hormone related?

In any case I will try to update as i find out more information...

Re: Severe Blurry Vision

  • My first thoughts are you either have an aura from a migraine or you have high BP. I get weird little blurbs of light sometimes with migraines. I've also had it later in pregnancy and it was from my BP being high

Hopefully they don't take too long to call you back, I know it's worrisome to experience that

  • Im sorry this has you freaked out! I have no experience, ftm here too, and have not yet experienced blurry vision with pressure. Sometimes my vision gets blurry but it only lasts a few seconds.
Please update us as soon as you have any news!
  • My last pregnancy I had weird vision. Not as bad as you are describing but I had a hard time with night driving because the headlights facing towards me made it so I couldn't see anything. I talked with my ob and my eye Dr and they both weren't concerned. It corrected itself after muy pregnancy was over although my vision had gotten much worse than before.
Good luck!  I'd defiantly see your Dr and possibly eye Dr! Hopefully it's just hormones.

@sjohns08 that would be my guess too, and I always get a very distinct aura before migraines that I would describe exactly like that @emwj10187

I really hope that's not what it is. Migraines are horrific. If it is, my advice is caffeine and Tylenol. Excedrin works for some, not for me though, unfortunately, I always had to take rx drugs.

    Thinking of you!

  • I started getting ocular migraines during my last pregnancy. Had like little wavy blurry spots in my vision, made it VERY hard to stay at work since 95% of my job involves a computer. Sometimes it would precede a headache and sometimes it would just go away.

Taking Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) seemed to help, but I still got them occasionally even after pregnancy. Usually if I go lay down and sleep it off it helps.

  • +1 to the migraine aura and high BP.

I hope it's not that, but just in case - I'd get to where you need to be very soon. I got my aura at work once and didn't make it home in time and had to pull over at a Walmart to wait out the first wave of my migraine.

  • I dont know if that helps but just a little info about those BP migraines Dr has told me. She explained when you felt your migraine at the back of your head it was generally linked to high BP. If its in the front of your head then its likely due to fatigue, or lack of good sleep.
  • I second what most have said- that's exactly how my migraines start. Definitely try to take it easy until they call back. My vision changes last about thirty minutes before the real headache begins.

  • @emwj10187 it looks like you're going to escape an actual headache-migraine, at least. Mine always come 15-20 mins after the aura, def not more than an hour later. It could be what @jessafishy said and just an ocular migraine. I get those once in awhile, and they're a bit scary but not usually too painful and not something to worry too much about. Hopefully your doctor gives you a good answer soon!

  • I hope you have received a call from your doctor by now, but I agree it sounds like a classic migraine coming on.  I have the same thing happen at the onset of my migraines.  The first time I had one it was terrifying because I had no clue what was happening.
  • It could be a migraine but it could also be from high BP. Has your BP been checked recently? I truly hope you've heard from your OB by now. If it has continued I would be heading in to the doctor ASAP, especially if you don't have a history of migraines.

  • I had blurry vision and headache a few weeks ago, it was very severe but my vision degraded significantly, I also had severe headache. It went away after a couple of days but I still have blurry vision every now and then.
  • I had the exact same thing on and off throughout my whole pregnancy with my daughter. My blood pressure was always fine. I got the squiggly, vibrating, bright colored lines and it would last for up to an hour sometimes and would block a good portion of my vision. On numerous occasions. My obgyn said it could be ocular migraines. I never had pain when it happened to me. My obgyn said my only option would be to see an eye dr but since it was pregnancy related there isn't much they would likely be able to do. Obgyn explained that during pregnancy your body has more fluid including in your eyes and the fluid can float between layers of your eyes causing blurred and strange vision. The problem went away for me as soon as my daughter was born. Did you hear back from your dr yet?
  • @emwj10187 I'm glad everything looks ok and that you updated us! I was actually just thinking about you and a little worried.

  • @emwj10187 so glad it was not more serious!

  • @emwj10187 really glad you're "okay"
  • @emwj10187 so glad it wasn't super serious. I'm sorry that you are still a bit stressed from the issue they found and being prescribed antibiotics. I had to take a round of antibiotics at around 18 weeks when I was pregnant with my first and it was all ok. I hope your obgyn gives you reassurance and that the antibiotics takes care of the problem so you can relax.

So glad you're okay! I used to get this exact same thing. It felt like i needed sunglasses when I was indoors. Sometimes a headache would come after, sometimes not. Mine are always hormonal related. I used to get them when I took BC as a teenager (havent taken it in about 14years because of this) and i get them when I'm pregnant. Only had them once or twice with DD, but with this one around 7-9 weeks i had them almost daily.it was awful. I was taking Tylenol (which did nothing) all the time. I try to really keep up my water intake and that seems to help. I mean like LOTS of water. Hope you don't get anymore. I literally start to shake with fear when I get the aura because I'm so scared of another headache.
  • @kkerner87 yeah this unfortunately came with a head ache. Today is my first day with relief from that. 3 days. oy.

  • Oh no @emwj10187 I am so sorry to hear you got the painful part of the migraine, too. I used to get migraines before I quit bcp, and I can truly sympathize with how horrific they are. They make me throw up, feel like nails are being driven into my head, and lose all ability to think clearly or read or anything. So scary. I have gone to the urgent care before after hours of no relief.

Just know that I'm thinking of you! I'm glad you're feeling better.
