Told gender around 12 weeks. Right or wrong?

Has anyone been told a gender prediction around 12 or so weeks?

I know it's too early to tell but my tech was pretty sure of herself.

For curiosity sake, who else has been told early and turned out to be right or wrong?

Re: Told gender around 12 weeks. Right or wrong?

  • I was told at 15 weeks and it was correct. However, I didn't paint the nursery blue straight away. I waited for the 20 week scan. 12 weeks tends to be too early. They all look like a nub at that point.

  • While at my last appt the tech was pretty sure and said of course we can be wrong, I also didn't run out and start buying things. It was more of a fun " "let's see if she's right when the anatomy Scan comes" thing. For what it's worth , tech didn't even look at anything between the legs. Apparently it has something to do with the spine.

My tech took a guess at my NT scan Monday and she said it's a very inaccurate guess. She said it's maybe a 60% chance of being right, which isn't much better than a 50% lol. She guessed we are having another girl, so we will see. She did sound pretty sure about it, but may have thought we wanted a boy. We would be thrilled with a second girl, or with a boy. I'm just ready to know!

Yeah @jessafishy I figured that much to be true obviously. I was hoping to hear personal experiences out of curiosity sake.

Oh I never even heard of the spine thing. That's interesting!

I agree. I was surprised the tech even bothered to look

While we are on the topic of conspiracy theories from FFFC post, I've got several with our new friend OP.  Who's behind the SN?

What conspiracy theories? I'm intrigued. It's always interesting with these kinds of forums.

I've been lurking via the app. Curiosity peaked, thought I'd post while I can still remember it. Read the rules, saw the ultrasound post and didn't think my question fit among all the cute pictures, and I just changed my SN because my original account is from The Knot.

If you followed along on the FFFC thread we discussed conspiracy theories today.  It was odd the rash of one off threads from people who have never intro-ed themselves, or participated in any way before, all decide to post similar threads around the same time.  Seemed very trollish, which you may not be.  Just saying it seemed that way.  It's always nice to start from the beginning ie Intro thread.  We would love to add more moms to our group who truly belong here.
  • I have a friend who is an ultrasonographer and she told me way too early at 12 weeks. I have a cervical check at 16 weeks where I was told girl with DD2 so I'll probably trust it by then, but I usually don't start going crazy planning until it's for sure at 20 weeks

Who doesn't belong here? People who aren't pregnant? Lol anyway, I just posted my intro to quell any suspicion. Here's a copy.

    1) What's your EDD? 10/16

    2) Do you have other children? None

    3) Where are you from? NJ to NC

    4) How old are you and SO? 26 and 32

To add to that, I lost twins at 23 weeks. I never joined a forum previously for more than just lurking because I feel like I never have much to ask or contribute, but I feel like I gain some insight from other's posts. So even in the future, I probably won't post much.
  • My friend found out at 10 weeks and they were right!
  • At 12 weeks the generals haven't fully formed, so...

Well, here's one website showing that a female fetus at *13* weeks has a budding clitoris that can look like a penis: https://www.baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html So yes, I stand behind my comment that the gentians aren't FULLY formed at 12 weeks.

  • With DD we did an elective u/s to find out gender at 14 weeks and it was right. They wouldn't do it prior to 14 weeks though.  I would take it with a grain of salt. Assume they're right. But wait until your anatomy scan to plan for anything, don't get too attached to the idea of that specific fgender, and don't be disappoited if you get the old switcheroo in a month and a half.

  • OP  I get it.   I too made a new name because my old knot, next, bump name was relating to my xhusband.  No thanks! lol.  I'm probably looked at as a troll because I rarely post, but that's mostly because I'm a mom of 2, my FH has 4, I'm a teacher, and planning a wedding.  I just don't have much time to check in here. I don't have many questions as it's kind of a been there done that kinda thing.  I try to answer what I can though of the new momma questions.    Here's to my other lurkers!

The place where I got my sex reveal ultrasound with DD they won't even try until 14 weeks. It would make me nervous! I'm going closer to 15 for an elective one to find out sex but this place has a really great reputation and if they are not 100% sure they won't even try to guess and let you come back a couple weeks later free of charge
  • My office won't even try until 17 weeks
