Sunday Book Club! 4/9

How does everyone feel about doing a "book club" of sorts? I'm always looking for recommendations and I think quite a few of us are readers, so I thought every Sunday we could briefly talk about what we're reading! Short synopsis (no spoilers!) and why we do or don't like it!

I'll definitely be more into this in a few weeks when school ends. Right now I'm reading "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" when I can. I hope to have a natural birth. The book is good, but it's stressing me out more than reassuring me since I have to give birth in a hospital. I'm worried about having unnecessary interventions forced on me. But there's good info and also there are lots of birth stories, if you like those and find them inspiring.

@stillclever17 I have it on reserve to read it from the library! The documentary by Ricky Lake on Netflix called 'The Business of Being Born' is a go to for me when I'm pregnant and she recommends Ina May in it but I've never actually read her book. As for an intervention free birth, I had both of my boys in the hospital without any interventions. I think a lot of hospitals are becoming more aware of how women want to have more say in their birthing process. Also I would suggest finding a midwife group if it's available in your area. My midwives are amazing and work closely with my obgyn and the hospital that I deliver at.

Ive been on a reading binge lately. My last book was 'Dreamer's Pool' and I loved it. It's a fantasy that follows a wise woman who calls herself Blackthorn and a man who helps her, Grim. It's book one of a series so I'm expecting a deeper story to grow as the series goes on.

@missbmama Our hospital has a new low intervention birth program. They have natural birthing rooms and the nurses are supposed to be trained on supporting natural births. My primary provider will be a midwife, but an OBGYN is available if needed. This is pretty new, so I'm glad I came in at the right time. I'm still nervous about how things will actually end up shaking out, but I'm hopeful. I think I'll feel better once I meet my midwife at my first appt. I saw the business of being born a long time ago. I want to watch it again. I wish it was on Netflix.

@stillclever17 they have it on Netflix again!!! I just watched it last week lol. You're set up sounds a lot like mine. I hope I didn't sound pretentious with my last post. I was super worried about interventions with my first pregnancy and was hoping to encourage you.

Now I have to watch that, too! I think I started watching it when I was pregnant with DS and got distracted, haha.

I just started reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult (TW), and I just finished Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty (HUGE TW). I'm usually more of a Toni Morrison type of gal, but I'm trying to learn to appreciate more modern stuff.

I also just finished Three Wishes! I love her writing so much. I was hoping to get into A Dragonfly in Amber this past week, but didn't have much luck. I'm considering running out today to grab My Grandmother Told Me To Tell You She's Sorry, but not sure if I will. Has anyone read that?

@vvitchhazel I love this thread! I am a big reader too and always looking for recommendations. I usually "unplug" myself on the weekend and probably won't be bumping much on Sat and Sun but I will try to check in on Monday mornings.

For those who love Lianne Moriarty -- I've read all her books except for the newest one. I loved Big Little Lies, the Husband's Secret, What Alice Forgot, and the Last Anniversary. I was eh with Three Wishes.

Right now I'm reading The Ladies' Room by Carolyn Brown -- kind of an easy, read-in-a-few-days book, but it's a nice story about a woman who changes her life for the better after she discovers that her friends and family are toxic.

Of course, I start the book club and then get too busy to talk about the books I'm reading. Typical me!

I'm reading Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. It's a YA high fantasy book about a teenage assassin and I really enjoy it, but I hate the main character. I don't really know how that works, lol.

I'm also reading The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler. It's right up my alley. Librarian, mysterious antique book, tarot cards, curses... I'm only about 50 pages in, but I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

@peachy13 I figured I'd throw this thread up on Sundays and people can chime in throughout the week with books they're loving and hating.

@vvitchhazel OMG I am in love with the Throne of Glass series! I get the whole hate for the main character thing but still love the story. The second book, in my opinion, is actually 100% better than the first! I also read her other series A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury, I'm patiently waiting for the third one to release next month. If you end up enjoying Throne of Glass I would definitely recommend you try out her Court books I think they are even better.

I am now starting Truthwitch. Not really sure yet what's going on since I just started last night but so far I'm interested.

I did end up getting My Grandmother etc... but ended up being too tired to read much of it. The first chapter was promising, though! @angetralala

Love this thread. I've been a total slacker with reading these past few months but I'm going to use this thread for suggestions on next books!

If anyone is looking for an author to explore, I really do love Colleen Hoovers books. They are easy reads but they suck you in.

Currently reading Hidden Figures. Haven't seen the movie yet, so I am hoping to finish the book first. So far it is interesting, but a little dry. I have a feeling the movie is better
