Just checking in to see how everyone is doing :)

How was the first appointment? If you haven't had one yet, when will it be?

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?

I won't have my first appointment till Tuesday. I'll be almost 9 weeks at that point :)

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?
I currently have three friends battling stage IV cancer and they have little kids. This sounds nuts, but I'm afraid I'll die before they are old enough to take care of themselves. Sooooo morbid. Also, I had a friend that just had a major stroke at 42!!! Eeeeks.

The best thing about being an AMA momma?
I think I'm just in the place mentally to be a Mom. I could have done it in my early 20's, but I'm more relaxed and forgiving than I was (even at 28). Crayons on the wall at 22 would have made me a crazy person. Now I wait a couple weeks to Magic Erase them because there might be more, and I want to get my money's worth out of those sponges.

It was great! We saw the LO and heard the heartbeat. We have our genetic counseling appt this week.

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?

Something being wrong with LO bc of my AMA status.

The best thing about being an AMA momma?

I feel like I am in a good place on my career and DH and I got time together.

It was 2 weeks ago and it was great. Fairly easy, and definitely reassuring. My next appointment is with an MFM a week from Friday. I'm ready for that one to be here, so I can see LO again - and if all goes well probably tell work after that.

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?

I think just having the energy to keep up with LO. I'm ama and this is out first - and were hoping for more. I feel exhausted already and am a bit nervous about what's to come.

The best thing about being an AMA momma?
I feel that I'm at a great place in my life. I have one group of friends who had kids a few years back and they are in school now, but a several of my close friends have just started having babies, so I'm excited I can still have kids close in age to ours as they grow up.

  • Not sure if I count as an AMA as I'm currently 34, but here we go!

How was the first appointment? If you haven't had one yet, when will it be?
Our first appointment will be on Tuesday. I'm super excited as this will be our last kiddo.

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?
My first two pregnancies did not go particularly smoothly, so now if anything goes wrong this time I'm not going to recover from it as well, and I still need to be mom to my "older" two boys.

The best thing about being an AMA momma?
I've been around this particular block, so I know largely what to expect. I realize every pregnancy is different, but if things go smoothly, this will be a relatively easy pregnancy, and if it doesn't, I've been there and done that too. Maybe that it isn't as scary for me.

  • How was the first appointment? If you haven't had one yet, when will it be? first appt went well saw one baby (I have twins already) with a good heartbeat. Love the practice very supportive and non-intervention. The dr. didn't even mention my AMA status at 38!

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?
Just the possibility of birth with the twins had emergency c section and every possible complication after so want to vbac but nervous about vaginal birth too.

The best thing about being an AMA momma?

what others have mentioned, I had so much fun traveling and having a career in 20s and first half of 30s no regrets and ready to really focus on motherhood
  • @fiddleRN79, I have the same fears about leaving my kids too soon. I have a friend who passed from breast cancer a couple of years go. She was in her early 30s. I have a friend now going through ovarian cancer. Very scary.

How was the first appointment? If you haven't had one yet, when will it be?
It went well. I was able to see baby and also hear the heartbeat which put my mind at ease.
Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?
My biggest fear is something happening to me or hubby. We're not too old right now but when this one graduates college, we'll be retiring. I want to be able to be around for grand kids, etc.
The best thing about being an AMA momma?
I'm in a better place financially and mentally.

  • @photogal1317 and @jess0211 I know I don't have as much energy as I would have 10 years ago. I also worry about balancing school, work, family, and activities. I'm thankful that DH likes to be outside so they can run around and let some energy out :)
  • 1) My first appointment went well.  My OB said my uterus was accommodating the pregnancy well.  She said everything looked perfect on the ultrasound.  My next appointment is the first week of May.
2)While I wouldn't trade the way we have done things, I have a major fear of missing out.  I worry that something will happen to myself or my husband while my kiddos are still young.  I would have made a terrible mother in my 20's though so I'm doing it the right way for me.
    3) I like that we are in a better place financially.  My kids will never want for anything which is awesome.
  • 1) my first appointment is on Thursday afternoon. I'm so anxious to get in and hopefully hear good news. One of the practitioners at my office left and one is on maternity leave which leaves only two Drs. Very short staffed now and made it hard to get in for an appt. if I didn't love my one dr I think I'd look for a new one.

    2) this is my first pregnancy at the AMA. I turned 35 in November. Sometimes I think about how old I'll be when they graduate high school or if I'll make mom friends when my kids are in school or if I'll get to be a grandma.

    3) I was 31 when I had my first. No regrets. I really loved my 20s and traveled and had lots of fun!
  • @froggy994 I worry about making mom friends, too.  But then again it will be nice that most of my friends have already been there, done that and will be able to give some good advice (I'm also a FTM).

First ultrasound was yesterday and was amazing, measuring 7 weeks with a great hr. Amazing.

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?
That something will be wrong with the baby.

The best thing about being an AMA momma?
Ive gotten to live my best life and be at a place where I almost kinda maybe feel like possibly I might sort of be ready for this!
  • @froggy994 I have the older two in Catholic school. Honestly, I'm around the same age as a lot of the mommas so it isn't too bad. Most of the families have at least 4 children so we fit in lol. However, I always feel ancient at my son's t-ball games. I could be a Mom to some of the parents lol.

@av2323 and @CubsFan7 I know we can't control what happens to us (minus modifiable risk factors), but it does weigh on my mind. My husband's mother passed away at 35 from a rare thyroid cancer. You just never know what lies ahead. We made an appointment to go discuss life insurance and find something we can afford that will help the living parent out at least (we have two smaller policies through work). I did the math on how long we'll be paying for college and I almost died lol. We'll be retiring about the time #4 graduates from college.
  • @liz4382 @fiddleRN79 I figure there are a lot of moms nowadays that are a little older. Just have to find them and make friends. It's so hard sometimes though!!
  • How was the first appointment? If you haven't had one yet, when will it be?
I had first last week, measured 8+4. Last time (2014) I was also AMA and was sent to the MFM for the 12 week extra genetic stuff (like NT scan, cell free DNA etc), but this time my OB said since I know the drill I don't need extra counseling. I get that. But then she went on to say that since the cfDNA tests have grown in use that doing an NT scan wasn't necessary according to ACOG. I am curious if and other STM+ are being told we can skip the NT scan?
i will have to call nurse back to clarify, bc I can remember what she said except the gist of I don't need it.....  (insert question face emoji)

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?
the general risks of age -- health of the baby plus my waning energy.... my 2.5yo is currently kicking my butt. Or at least draining me!! But I'm really hoping my DS won't bear the burden of aging parents alone. I'm currently caring for my mother and already lost my dad and step dad in recent years. So, it's hard to imagine what the future would be like for him if DH and I are in poor health from one thing or another.

The best thing about being an AMA momma?
I don't know, there are pros and cons to it all, but people tend to take you for your word more often and leave you alone with your parenting decisions. At least in my experience! Maybe being older has made me bolder. Ha.

How was the first appointment? If you haven't had one yet, when will it be?
first was last Friday, 8w4d. Baby looked good and HB 169. Next is the 12 week visit.

  • @deerfauxm I am getting the Panorama test and OB is still having me do the NT scan and related blood work. I actually didn't do the NT with my first since I had a CVS test done. But my doctor did also say that the Panorama was over 99% accurate so the duplicate tests may be a little redundant. Curious what others are doing, as well.

  • My dr asked today about the genetic testing. I declined all of it. She said that's fine and didn't push it with me. She said she doesn't consider me old as she was 39 for her last birth. This practice seems very noninvasive/baby friendly so that's great for me!

    Strong heartbeat!

Biggest fear about being an AMA momma?
My work performance tanking. I have a rough go with pregnancy and have a demanding job. Not very good timing with work, but DD took a couple of years to happen. Was worried about getting too old for #2 in case it also took awhile. One month this time around!

Concerned that my work passion will die out when #2 is here.

The best thing about being an AMA momma?
I got to travel to really neat places, do lots of applied science, and become a grounded and financially stable person before becoming a mom! I LOVE being a mom but worried I'd regret not doing these things
