Re: Craft/read/watch post for April 7

  • Reading any good books lately? Are you currently reading anything? Anything on the to read list?
Grad school books :( I would love to read a book for fun. I have Carve the Mark and the new Red Queen book to read and someone this week was talking about how IT by Stephen King was good....

Do you have any craft projects you are currently/want to start working on?
None at the moment. I have been doing terrible with my crocheting. I am still learning but I have not had time to practice at all.

Do you have any home improvement/projects around your house you are working on?
I need to clean out my closet. I really want DH to get on some projects around the house- the deck needs work and the yard looks terrible.

Watch anything good lately? TV? Movies? Netflix?
I have not watched a whole lot of TV this week. I am hoping I will have some time to watch a little this weekend. Someone said Passangers with Jennifer Lawrence is good so maybe I'll watch that. Anyone have any recommendations?

  • @glitzandglitter What sort of genres are you into? I haven't seen Passengers yet, but I've heard it was good. If you like the Marvel movies, Doctor Strange was excellent. For horror, The Babadook creeped me the heck out. I'm a huge horror nerd :D

Reading any good books lately? Are you currently reading anything? Anything on the to read list? I'm still working on 1984. I want to read a couple of books I found on our shelf when I finally organized it a couple weeks ago.

Do you have any craft projects you are currently/want to start working on? I actually bought a latch hook kit yesterday! It's the first one I've had in a long time, but it's something to do that wasn't very expensive. I also picked up a new puzzle.

Do you have any home improvement/projects around your house you are working on? I'm still trying to get my husband to put some of his bins into storage. He's always so tired when he gets home that it never really comes up, but I'm tired of having to move them around in order to get to things. I also want to get some shelves and finally order prints of our wedding pictures so we can put them up. We rent, so the other stuff we'd love to do isn't a possibility, lol.

Watch anything good lately? TV? Movies? Netflix? I have been binging on the old episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 that Netflix put up this month. I was too young to appreciate them when they were first on TV, but oh dear lord some of the movies they riffed on were SO BAD. DH also just put on some new AMC show called Into The Badlands. Not sure how I feel about it yet. We're only about ten minutes into the first episode (and as soon as he falls asleep, I'm putting MST3K back on).

  • @dreamscapes_ I watch just about any genre it just depends on my mood.
I love puzzles! I don't have anywhere I can leave one out right now so I haven't been able to do any in so long :(
  • @glitzandglitter - Both DH and I really liked Passengers! You should definitely watch it!
@dreamscapes_ - I really like puzzles too, but I usually only work on them around Christmas time.

Reading any good books lately? Are you currently reading anything? Anything on the to read list?
I'm still reading Sabriel by Garth Nix. But this week I started reading every night for 30 minutes before falling asleep, so hopefully it won't take me that long to finish this book.

Do you have any craft projects you are currently/want to start working on? I don't really do crafts.

Do you have any home improvement/projects around your house you are working on? I would like to start working on my backyard and figure out where I should put some raised garden beds.

Watch anything good lately? TV? Movies? Netflix? I started watching Outlander, but I don't really know if I will keep watching it.
  • @dreamscapes_ - Babadook freaked me out too!

Reading any good books lately? Are you currently reading anything? Anything on the to read list?
I try not to read for fun during the term, because I have so much assigned readings for classes. One of my classes is about Mars (history of discovery/human exploration) and some of my classmates recommended the book "The Martian" (that the recent film was based on), and "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury. SO owns the second - I just haven't read it yet- (SO is a huge Bradbury fan), so that will be added to my summer list.
Do you have any craft projects you are currently/want to start working on? Another class of mine is a drawing one. That will take up most of my creative energy.
Do you have any home improvement/projects around your house you are working on? I live in an apartment, so I can't do much. We did get a new TV stand and put the old one in the spare/guest room/future baby room? (it didn't have one previously), so that's cool. We've had a serious wind storm and my poor plant starts that I put on the balcony are not happy. The plants are my current "project". Oregano and thyme just sprouted this week! (I started the seeds (indoors) a little late on those. Next month I can put the tomatoes and peppers outside.
Watch anything good lately? TV? Movies? Netflix? I haven't had much tv time lately. I've been letting the SO play Mass Effect (he just got the newest game) during our evening tv down time. Last night I did squeeze in "Song of the Sea", made by the people who made "Secret of Kells". Both are irish folklore based movies. Animated. AH! Last time we had this question I had just watched "Ronja the Robber's Daughter". I promise I watch more than animated stories. (Can I say it's because I need to study the art for class? lol)
  • @tumbleweed - I really liked the "Secret of Kells" movie. Good luck with your patio garden, hopefully it's less windy the next few weeks so your plants don't have such a hard time.
  • @glitzandglitter I tend to go more toward horror or sci-fi, for the most part. I like some other genres, but I'm very picky and tend to dissect things and make fun of the stuff I'm not enjoying (like this really bizarre show my husband put on last night, but he was enjoying it, so I stopped). I love puzzles, too! I haven't done one in a while, but it's just something to do.
@ChloandCoco The holidays are usually too hectic for me to really have non-cooking projects. I do a fair bit of baking every holiday season, but I also work at a major resort that gets INSANELY busy at the holidays. So last year, we were both working mandatory overtime. My mom had a raised garden bed at their old house, and she loved it.
@tumbleweed I love horror and don't usually get freaked out, but it was just the fact that The Babadook is SUCH a slow build, and it was so psychologically terrifying. It was great. Every time I recommend movies to people, if they're okay with horror, I recommend that. I love Ray Bradbury! Have you read The Illustrated Man? I hope your weather calms down so your plants can get a foothold!

  • I just finisjed reading Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me by Mindy Kaling. Next I think I'm going to start American Psycho.

We've been really into Designated Survivor recently. And I'm loving Imposters!
  • Hope no one minds chiming in on this late!

Reading any good books lately? Are you currently reading anything? Anything on the to read list?
I just started reading Nixonland and it is WILD.  Any other history/politics nerds here?  If so, you MUST read this book.  Holy cow.

Do you have any craft projects you are currently/want to start working on?
I am the least crafty person alive.  So, generally, no, but I am painting a couple of picture frames at some point this week, so maybe that counts?  And I also am in the middle of a redesign of our apartment/balcony to make things more kid friendly and colorful, so maybe that also counts?  (But I am 100% buying cute things because I can't make cute things, lol.)

Do you have any home improvement/projects around your house you are working on?
Yes!  Mentioned above, kind of.  So, we got rid of our giant TV because I was convinced Rose was going to pull it down on her head, and we mostly just watch tv on our laptops anyway, so we are going to replace that blank spot in our living room by hanging our guitars/my husband's bass on the wall.  But, apparently, we need a stud finder or something to hang things that heavy, so it's in progress.  I'm also looking for some art to hang (um, cheap art) if anyone has any recommendations as far as places online.  I've been looking at society 6, which is cool, but I'd love any other options!  Also, same goes for throw pillows.  We need a bunch and they are SO expensive, jeez.

Watch anything good lately? TV? Movies? Netflix?
We just started rewatching Veep, because I need an outlet to laugh at politics right now, instead of be stressed.
