GTKY: Grandparents Names

**shamlessly stolen from June17 because I love this idea and love "old" names!**

"This was started in my Jan14 fb group and it was cool to see all the names.  It may be more beneficial here too because a lot of the classic names are coming back so those of us who still have nameless babies could benefit!  So what are your paternal/maternal grandparents names?  Feel free to share your spouses as well!"

Re: GTKY: Grandparents Names

  • Maternal: Grace/Ronald
    Paternal: Lawrence/Mary

My grandma's full name was Grace Anita which I think is gorgeous and would love to use if we have a third daughter.

    maternal: Bernice and Leon
paternal: Eleanor and John (step-father Emmett)

I do love Eleanor and thought about naming this little one after my grandmother...but I think it's gotten a little too popular lately.

We've thought about Virginia nicknamed Ginny, but also have one thousand other names on our list... I'm not a good decision maker
  • @rjoys8 - My MIL was Virginia and went by Ginny.   If this baby is a girl, she will get Virginia as her middle name as MIL passed away in February.

    As for my grandparents...
    Maternal: Nancy/ Anthony
Paternal: Mary/ Joseph (I've always thought the combination was adorable considering out devoutly catholic they were)

    DH...
    Maternal: Joe/ Gemma
    Paternal: Irene/ George

Gemma is a top contender for a girl.

  • @SquirttheTurtle - Have you noticed that its getting increasingly popular?  Its always been a favorite of ours because of the family connection but all of a sudden, I find it to be popping up all over.

Who chose it because we love Agent Simmons on SHIELD.  DH is convinced we are only having boys so Gemma/Jemma is the ONLY girl name we have (spelling undecided).  It's in the top 1000 baby names, but pretty high up in the 600's so I'm not worried about it being super common.

Maternal:  Ann and Robert (goes by Bob)
    Paternal:  Gerald and Rachel
If we have another girl we will probably name her Rachel Ann (that was our 2nd name choice for this baby).  Our first name for this LO isn't familial but her middle name is going to be Irene after my maternal great-grandmother.

    DH
    Maternal:  Angus and Shirley
Paternal: Olive and I have no idea.  I don't think he ever knew her though as he didn't know his Dad (died when he was a baby)
Paternal #2 (The one we call "Dad" and who pretty much raised DH):  Denise and I'm not sure what her husband's name was, or if he was even around?

  • Me -
    Maternal: Betty and Leonard
Paternal: Lyda and Harry.  My grandma's middles names were Marguerite Geraldine.  Not usually a fan of "old" names but I think her name is beautiful and flows so well.

    DH
    Maternal: Hilda and Edward
    Paternal: Dorothy and Leonard
  • My grandparents:
    Maternal- Linda/Darrell
    Paternal- Harriet/ Wilson

    Dh:
    Maternal- don't know/ Al
Paternal- Patsy/ Alva known as Sug

MIL mother died when MIL was 6, I've never heard her talk about her much so I don't know her name.
  • Maternal: Vivian / James
    Paternal: Regina / Steven

DH maternal: Gloria / DS (doesn't stand for anything)
    DH paternal: Margaret / Frank

i love Vivian but would have spelled it Vivianne but DH wasn't going for it and I love Gloria but again DH poo-poo'd it.
  • Me:
Maternal: Thomas and Noreen (She was born Hanorah and called Nari growing up. Changed it to Noreen when she immigrated.)
    Paternal: Robert and Ruth

    DH:
    Maternal: Allan and Patricia
    Paternal: Patrick and Patricia
  • Maternal: Gloria/Robert
    Paternal: Eleanor/Robert

Eleanor was a front runner for us for this baby but then other family members used it and then several friends it became very popular it seems!

  • Love this idea @LuLiLaEv! I'm in the market for 'classic names" so this might help! Evelyn is our front runner right now.

    Me-
    Maternal: Marietta & Donald
Paternal: Violet (went by Elaine) & Ralph

    DH-
    Maternal: ? & Philip
    Paternal: Janet & Bernard
  • Louise/Arthur
    Catherine/Joseph Girard (Jerry)

DD's middle name is Catherine and I think this baby will be Louise Marie (Marie is DH's grandmother)

I love old-fashioned names and I love that so many of them are coming back!
