HG Mommas??

So I was a bit active on this forum and then at 6 weeks I was hit with a train known as morning sickness... all day sickness... that landed me in the ER. I'm now 15 weeks and Tuesday I ended back up in the ER. Severe Dehydration. I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravardium which basically is like the "congratulations your morning sickness is more like shut your body down type of thing." I work as a teacher in a special needs room and I am really struggling making it through the day... just curious if any other Mommas are experiencing HG and what are you doing to make yourself a functional member of society?

Also i have a 2 year old as well so that's also a contributing factor to also wanting to be my best self so she knows her momma can play with her again :(

Re: HG Mommas??

  • I don't have any experience with this but it sounds terrible. I'm sorry you're going through this. If you're still having nausea, try chimes ginger chews. They come in different  flavors. Once I started taking them I was able to eat an actual meal again and help out around the house. Also to help with dehydration, I mixed up my water with some crystal light to go packets. I would split a packet between 3 regular size water bottles.  I got the flavor I wanted without having it turn into kool-aid.

  • Hi! I Also have HG and a 2 year old. I've been taking 4 doses of diclectin a day. I eat really small meals as often as I can manage being too full or too hungry makes me a mess so basically I have food around me all the time. Peppermint tea helps calm my stomach a bit so I drink a fair bit of it and it helps keep fluids up. Ive gone to mostly vegetarian foods- meat was just really setting me off. Ive found success with really mild curries like coconut milk based ones with lots of lentils, chickpeas and black beans to get protein in.

Good luck, I know how hard and miserable it is, Im right there with you.

  • @Souptin I've been BEGGING my OB For Diclegis for 9 weeks! I'm so darn sick. My first pregnancy I was one 4 doses and I was the whole time! I didn't make it to the point of an HG diagnosis. We got it in check early. I have my 16 week appointment on Monday and my DH is going. I think he's going to make a stance until he gets a script. I was put on two other anti nausea meds to take every four hours... it doesn't work. It's awful. The hospital gave me the Diclegis and I've kept all food down since Tuesday(the first dose). Thanks for the peppermint tea suggestion I'll need to give that a go!
  • @klcarr19 I luckily escaped HG this time, but I did have it with my last pregnancy. Zofran helped me but I still had so much trouble. I'm sorry you're having to deal with it. Just wondering though why your doctor is resisting giving you Diclegis. While I haven't been as bad this time, I've still had issues with throwing up, especially earlier on and my doctor never even suggested Diclegis for me this time, and I wasn't quite sure why. Zofran still works for me, but not as well as last time, and I'm kinda wondering if Diclegis would have worked better earlier in this pregnancy. I really hope you get a prescription for it from your doctor at your next appointment!

HG diagnosis here accompanied by a 19 month old. It is tough. Once I was on diclegis and zofran for about 3 weeks I was able to consistently keep food down. The food I eat now is very bland, and I try really hard to drink as much water as I can do I don't need to get additional IV fluids. My OB threatened me with a zofran pump if I lost any more weight. I work PRN but didn't work at all for almost a month and a half due to HG. Hang in there, you aren't alone!

  • Hi girls, I feel your pain. Ftm here and feel I am heading towards HG. My OB has me on Diclegis and Zofran from 8 weeks. I am 16 weeks now. Even if I miss one dosage, nausea and vomiting strike with full vengence :(
Waiting for MS to get over!
  • Here!

To think this is the second time around. I'm only just coming out of it at 18 weeks. It's still awful.

With my son I lived on IVs for 4 months; it was so bad that I considered a termination (God forgive me).

Here I am at 18 weeks struggling to pull through with a 21 month old constantly in need of my attention. He can't understand why I can't play with him like we used to.

Honestly, only a HG momma will really understand what we go through. It is well!  :)

  • @klcarr19 I just wanted to check in and see how you are doing?
Good luck with your OB appointment- I hope you get that script- I dont know where I would be without it.

Since I had my diclectin upped to 4 pills a day ( its been about a week now) I have seen a big improvement (I think diclegis must be the American version of Diclectin)  I am still retching a bunch not actually vomiting nearly as much.

  • I still have a little morning sickness but it's not bad so I have no personal advice. However, my friend had this and she ended up with some sort of pump for nutrients. I didn't know her then so I don't know many details or specifics but it sounded similar to what diabetes use for insulin and she would pretty much just feed her self while she slept with the pump. But she has a very sever case. She was fairly thin before pregnancy and lost almost 30 pounds when they gave her the pump thing. Wow I should sound more educated than this lol I work in health care.
  • Thanks everyone for your stories and advice I really have appreciated it all! It's been a crazy week at work so I am just now checking in. @Souptin I met with an OB in the practice I go to this week. They gave me the Diclegis! It's not covered by insurance but I'm willing to pay whatever the cost. I've had minimal issues with just the two a day...then yesterday I had a major episode right before bed (dizzy, cold sweats, feeling nauseated, extreme weakness). I did three pills today to survive the day. I threw up for the first time since the last major episode that landed me in the ER.

I guess the big deal with me is when I was in the hospital my blood pressure was really low in the 90's. I usually run 118-125 range so this was alarming to find out. So at my appointment my blood pressure was 115. Back up but they are really concerned with the low blood pressure. I've never had issues like this with my daughter so I am worried. I'm just convinced this little squirt is a boy <3

with this HG diagnosis Im still not as sick as I was with my daughter. Just the episodes of weakness and dizziness are what is so bad. And when the nausea comes it comes hard and with vengeance!
