TTC After a Loss

April Benched

Anyone else on the bench for this month?

I'm recently on the bench (again) for more RPL testing.  The doctor wants me to lose 20 lbs before he'll do a biopsy for progesterone.  So, looks like I'll be sitting out some more.

  • @MimoCa - right?! Trying again after 2 losses SUCKS. We are just having unprotected sex whenever for now which is kind of a big weight off my shoulders.

  • @ladipale for real! Especially when its back to back! I had no AF in between so i'm just happy to have a few months of being back to a normal cycle. and then mentally prepare myself, though I ain't getting any younger lol!
  • Hi!! I'm here too. We have technically been off the bench since February, but I'm not mentally ready to ttc just yet. In the meantime, DH and I have started working out and eating better. It's helping me mentally and physically :)

Sorry you're benched @dpjennifer good luck with all the testing and the weight loss.

@MimoCa I hear ya! The thought of trying again scares me, even though I so badly want another baby!
  • @pumpkin0913 It definitely scares me and as I have no children I am enjoying just me and DH time and I worry that will change too. Its like all sort of thoughts in my head. Do I really want a baby but I do, will it change things I don't know, will I be able to handle another loss? Is it worth it? Man I have no idea lol....
  • It's so worth it @MimoCa - of course its scary!  I get scared thinking of being pregnant again but it's so worth it.  You life changes but for the better and you and the DH adapt to it.  It just brings so much more joy into your life.

@pumpkin0913 I didn't want to TTC at all in Jan.  We only had sex a few times that month and every time I cried afterwards.  Its rough.

This exactly! I'm afraid of another loss, but I will try again someday because it is so worth it!
  • Honestly ladies, thanks for that. It makes me more sure that I want to have a child!
  • @ladipale well I’m going to see a nutritionist, although I don’t think it will be helpful.  I’ve started watching what I’m eating and exercising, so I’ve already dropped a few of the pounds.  It’s just stressful because when he asked my weight, it was a month after my last MC.  So of course I got bloated with the 4th pregnancy, was too tired to exercise, then had my MC and was super depressed and not exercising and not watching what I ate at all, then I went on vacation to Florida and ate a lot of things I shouldn’t have, and had my appointment with him the day I got back.  I had ended up gaining like 10 pounds in a month.  So of course I felt bloated and fat and awful.  Frustrated because the guy thinks me losing 20 pounds will magically make my cycles the 28 day standard instead of like 35-37.  BUT I’ve never had a regular period, even when I was at a normal weight in HS when I first got AF.  But whatever, I’ll lose the weight and get the biopsy.  I wanted to get back on the healthy exercise/eating thing train anyway, so yeah.

@MimoCa I enjoyed the time off of ‘trying’ during my first RPL testing.  Definitely took some stress off of me.  But, now I just want to know.

  • @dpjennifer- when I had to loose all the baby fat from 6 years ago I counted calories at first but then decided not to do that and just eat clean all the time and also go to the gym 4 days a week.

  • @dpjennifer I'm trying to lose 20 pounds as well. So hard because I have no motivation what so ever :(
  • @dpjennifer and @MimoCa I also gained weight with last pregnancy and after. Finally starting to lose - I've started using lose it app just to track what I eat. It's helpful just to see how calories start stacking up. Between my loss and the next pregnancy I did a whole30 which was great! I eat close to whole30 80% of time (plus alcohol bc duh!) hang in there!

  • I just downloaded an excercise app that i can use in 9 mins. I did it the other day and it was great. But between working all the time and waking up right before I have to be in work, lol, I find that I get to lazy or tired by the time I'm up to do the measly 9 mins. Maybe if I get a yoga mat and bring it to work I can do it in the office when its quiet ahhaha

  • I need to jump on the health wagon.  I just feel so blah and think if I shed a few lbs I might feel better
  • Hi ladies. I think I'm finally ready to introduce myself over here. I've been in limbo on the loss side since late January when they put me under to terminate my 7w5d cornual ectopic that was a RPL testing oops conception. (I had a 9w2d loss, a 5w5d chemical, and a 4w6d chemical since we started TTC in 2015) I'm a bit bitter they didn't remove it then... at the time I thought my only method for removal was cornual resection. I finally had my D&C 3/28. It's my 3rd ever; for whatever reason I've never been able to pass a clinical loss at home... 1st went septic, 2nd I hemorrhaged, this time I guess my uterus just wanted to keep it as a souvenir?  So almost 8 weeks pregnancy, 9 weeks RPOC, and 6 weeks D&C recovery... everyone who got pregnant at the same time as me will be 22-23 weeks along by the time we're cleared to TTC. I know I need to stop tracking that last piece of info, but it's kind of hard not to when you're losing multiple cycles in limbo. Never mind that the military is sending DH away for a month during the time the TTC window opens again.

I'm currently on hormonal birth control for the first time since 2003 while I rebuild my folate levels from the methotrextate administered at the end of January. Part of me hopes it might have the effect of a pericardial thump on my own hormones. I'm still temping since I am barely within the weight limit for Xulane at 5'8". It's been interesting to say the least; last cycle temps were all over the place as expected for HBC. This cycle they are shockingly flat like a normal cycle, 13 days in. Doc wants me to keep an eye out for a biphasic cycle just in case. Like dpjennifer I am trying to lose a few (closer to 25-30lbs left now) and am down 10lbs since starting a daily 750 calorie deficit using FitBit in conjunction with MyFitnessPal. Not really actively exercising yet; I'm looking forward to KonMari'ing the house while DH is overseas. I think that will provide enough activity for the time being.

I'm currently following the "It Starts with the Egg" protocol to try to get higher quality eggs in addition to the weight loss. Trying to focus on that instead of freaking out about omg-I'm-missing-out-on-TTC. A little nervous about taking the DHEA though. Anyone else try DHEA? What was your experience? My advanced repro doc says it won't hurt my situation.
  • Welcome back, but very sorry to still see you here @GhanimaAtreides  I've never taken DHEA, but I've got 20 pounds of weight loss to go.

  • RPL testing oops conception sounds like a punch in the gut.  :(
After 2 years of TTC, avoiding for 2 months was really foreign to me! I was expecting to need daily HIO in window for months on end to conceive, not one freaking time I spaced while snowed in  :o

Then the betas came back beautifully, doubling times <48hrs. I thought the worst that could happen at my ultrasound was not seeing a HB. I was so wrong. It's seeing everything progressing perfectly... literally 3mm away from being able to have a THB. 3 millimeters was the difference between keeping it and having to terminate.

I started testing in Nov-Dec. Was supposed to get my SIS in Jan. That obviously got put off until last week. I was surprised they ok'd scheduling it within the D&C healing window... It was the first time in my doc's career where the balloon broke mid exam. So I got to go through it twice in a row  :s Aside from what I imagine some dental procedures are like, that has to be up there with "worst things to endure in an exam room while conscious".

Congrats on losing the first few pounds! AF is always a good time to kick off some inertia, and well, it sure beats stomach flu accidental method of starting off.
  • sorry you are here @GhanimaAtreides - this is a great support system.  I hope your stay is short.

  • @GhanimaAtreides- I just had my first pregnancy end in Ectopic two weeks ago, and while I didn't have surgery I also had the Methotrexate injection. I'm currently waiting for AF to show up, and then I guess I have to wait another two months to start trying again? The OB I had to see I hate, and am changing offices soon, but she's horrible about giving me any info on what to expect.
  • @toesinthesand-2 Mine recommended 3 months because methotrexate blocks folic acid & folate production... like, completely. Yet I was also told even taking prenatals or eating high folate foods or those fortified with folic acid could sabotage my recovery until my beta hcg hit zero. So I avoided bread, cereal, and a lot of greens for 7 weeks while that process took place. Another woman with an ectopic on here had a pregnancy scare her second cycle after and verified with her doc that it wasn't so much that the methotrexate itself was poisonous to the new pregnancy, but diminished folic acid/folate available to the new pregnancy that was the concern. She said some women request to get their folate levels tested to get early clearance to TTC again. Mine wouldn't agree to run the test though. I received both an ultrasound-guided injection to the gestational sac under general anesthesia as well as an intramuscular injection.
  • Finally had my follow up with my OB yesterday...thankfully she said two more weeks of no sex and then we are free to start trying whenever we're ready....I'm also on the losing weight train....I lost almost 30lbs while pregnant just from eating healthier so I want to continue down that path

  • @dpjennifer Me too! I was feeling a little too good about my progress so far, then um... let's just say I found out DHEA or one of the other Supplements wasn't for me. I started reeking of BO trying to sweat whatever it was out and the pills made me gag (heck, my own vitamin-BO was making me sick) so I took a few days off to reset. Meanwhile eating to stave off nausea. Didn't totally blow it, still a deficit, just not as much as I used to be accustomed to. I need to buckle down and slowly add back in until I figure out the problem one.

Also... My Advanced Repro doc called and we might have an answer for all my losses! Everything has checked out normal except for my lupus anticoagulants are just a shade lower than the upper end of the cut-off, so while it's not technically there, they're going to treat me as if it is. I've always started baby aspirin once I got pregnant, but doubted full cycle use since that was the longest interval to conception (5mos) when I tried it before. Of course, that could've been the stress too as I had the two losses back to back and waiting for a third just seemed cruel. Plus the oops-conception cornual ectopic was a stress-free one time shot... Anyway, I still have to do the full post-test counseling session, but at least we have a clue and a plan.
  • @GhanimaAtreides Well fingers crossed that it's your issue and that they can fix it up and get you to have a happy and healthy pregnancy!
I'm hoping that the ureaplasma issue they found is it for me.  But still gotta lose this weight to do the progesterone biopsy to know for sure.

I guess since I comment on occasion I will introduce myself. I am self benched, not emotionally ready to try again until late summer.
I had a nmc around thanksgiving at close to 8 weeks. And my living child has trisomy21. The combination of the two is causing some anxiety.
@harleyquinn0621sorry I read the ttcal check in. Glad that in 2 weeks you can start trying. Sorry they couldn't give you definitive answers.
@GhanimaAtreides hoping your appointment goes well and glad they have a plan of action.
  • @GhanimaAtreides- I'm hopeful that we can TTC before too long, although I definitely won't do it without clearance from my OB. When my EP was discovered I was only 6 weeks and my hCG was only 15. I had the shot around 8pm on a Tuesday night, and by 9am Friday morning my hCG was already down to 1. I had another draw 3 days later and it was 0. I'm most concerned obviously about the effects of the Methotrexate, but I did start taking my prenatal vitamins as well as additional folic acid. I'd love if they tested my folate levels but I'm not sure if they even will?
