Nurseries!

Re: Nurseries!

  • @Tourmalily we aren't doing a lot.  I have all these ideas but in the end we are leaving the furniture that's in the room already there, just need a crib. I'll probably just end up decorating with cute things that I find a long the way.

Those original pics you posted are my dream nursery. So serene...

Here's a link to a good site about making the nursery practical as well, i.e putting things within arm's reach of the rocker or changing table to make your life easier:

  • @Tourmalily other than a crib and glider, we won't purchase any furniture. Wall decor is a must for me though. We have something decorative on the walls of every room of our home. For me, it's what makes our house really feel like our home. I usually buy a few statement pieces and keep it simple though.
  • Our plan is to transform our office into LO's room, on a low budget. Grey crib, dresser from ikea with changing pad on top. Theme and colors somewhat gender dependent...
My favorite color is purple so if I can incorporate purple I would love to. With DS's nursery it was pale blue walls with dark brown accent wall. And themed around those colors. Since our house now is filled with rooms painted pink, others painted blue, we could actually leave this room painted pale green as is. The problem is there is a floral border around the top that looks more like grapes than flowers. So it would be ideal to avoid painting and just paper over that?!
  • @DuchessOfCambridge I'm right there with you on the nesting. Never have I wanted to fold things as desperately as I want to get my hands on those onesies!
  • We'll be moving into a townhouse for a year in June, however with LO due in Nov. it will only be there for about 7 months so I'm not going to decorate walls or anything. Plus if DH deploys I'm moving in with my ILs so I'm not alone and pregnant or with a baby and 2 dogs. We're tentatively team Green (I want to know, DH doesn't) and we'll be getting all neutral stuff which will be good since this is our first and we can hopefully reuse a lot for future babies. If we're at my ILs, then baby will sleep in the same room as me as their guest room is on one floor but the empty bedroom is on a different floor. In our townhouse baby will probably sleep in the nursery which will be right across the hall from us. DH gets up super early and sometimes gets calls to come in during the middle of the night.

  • I saw these at Ross during my lunch break and I really wanted to buy them to fit the travel theme...but decided not to. Trying to hold off until the second trimester...but it's so hard!

@dragonfly87 those are super cute!! If they're at someplace like Ross I would totally grab them if you love them because who knows if they'll be there later! That being said, I'm trying to wait until we move to buy stuff so I understand not getting them haha.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge that's what I am worried about since Ross has hit or miss inventory. Hmmm...might have to make a trip back after work.

@dragonfly87 - they are pretty cute and I like the colours - I would get them and keep the receipt if it makes you feel better.

  • I feel so lazy lol. My husband and I are planning on keeping the baby in our bedroom initially and then when it's a bit older we're just going to set up a crib in the (mostly fully-furnished) guest bedroom. It has a lot of my things from when I was young, it definitely has a young and cheerful feel to it, and I am not repainting a damn thing in that room so soon after buying the house omg. Also I am not buying new furniture other than a crib.
This.  Originally we debated getting rid of the guest room and moving DD into the big room and making the small room she's in now the nursery.  But the reality is, all my family is out of state, and they need a guest room a whole lot more than baby needs a nursery.  So crib in the pre-painted/decorated guest room it is. Though I'll probably use my chill with that to get DH to let me respruce the guest room with a new bedspread and wall mirror or something.  Baby will (likely) be in our room for the first few months anyway.  (As long as everyone sleeps best that way...)

  • I will probably move the crib and glider from my daughter's room to the new nursery and give her a twin with railing. I'm more concerned about clearing out my guest bedroom. I have an old bedroom set my husband and I purchased when we were engaged and I am so inclined to sell it but we are still using the dresser so I have to find a dresser for us so I can sell the set. There's also random clutter in there from the holiday and decorating.. Not looking forward to it.
