Eeeek I hope I'm not the only crazy one looking at all the cute bags!

What do you want out of a bag? Messenger purse or backpack? Favorite brands?

STMs, what worked for you? What should the FTMs avoid?

ETA: I totally forgot that @jena333 started a "Car seats and diaper bags" thread.. my bad.

Re: Diaper Bags!!

  • I am obsessed with the Ju-Ju-Be ones. Especially the BFF and Be Right Back because they can both be backpacks. I have a really awful shoulder so a backpack that distributes the load is a top priority.
Currently on the hunt for a gently used one because the price is high to justify for a diaper bag.
  • Loading the player...
  • You are so excited.. I almost don't even have the heart to tell you that there was a thread called car seats and diaper bags already... but that's said so gently and with much love lol! <3

With that said, we just went with a backpack that I could toss in the washing machine. It's been through a few times already due to various things, poopy clothes, baby food explosions etc.

@Becky012016 My concern is that my wet/dry bag wouldn't adequately fit in this particular backpack! It's a decent sized Luludew bag, canvas - like material. I'm in love. But perhaps diapers can take up all the space in there since everything else will have a place. Did you have any issues fitting your CD supplies in?

It's almost as large as my lap when it lays across me.

  • I have a deep love for Kate Spade's diaper bags, but I think I'm going to end up with a back pack style, simply because it will be much more convenient since we'll be living in a walking city. I think I'll be wearing baby a lot, and it will be easier to carry baby and the diaper bag if it's a back pack. But I still want it to be cute! I'd like a grey, camel, or a black in a really nice, luxe fabric. Or leather. :grimace: And straps that will let it attatch to the stroller are a must. ( @Sugargirl1019 I will also probably get yelled at for expensive tastes. Thankfully DH is a master at finding whatever expensive thing I want at a good discount online.)

  • @mrs_tacos I'd love to see what you find!! Jujube has this color called The Monarch, but jujube is not leather. It's a teflon material which makes it durable and machine washable, still feels luxe to me!  It does have stroller attachment straps too thank goodness! (I think the clips are sold separately though)

  • @sugargirl1019 we have 4 AIO diapers packed on average and they don't take up much room when they're clean. Once they're soiled, they seem to magically take up a ton of room. For DS we didn't have a problem with space but there's just not enough room to double everything and still fit it all in our current bag.
  • @Sugargirl1019 Ooo, I actually really like that bag! So far this is my favorite style I've found, though I don;t love the fabric. The search continues! (I hope that link works. It should just link to amazon.)

  • @wyomama0427 Oops. It was mainly dominated by car seats haha.

    @Becky012016 Thanks!

@mrs_tacos Oo check out this style of Jujube then.. The BRB style.

  • Machine washable--- number one priority in a diaper bag. I preferred a backpack style especially when DD#2 joined the family.

  • I have two diaper bags.  One is a Vera Bradley (link so you get the general idea, I'm not offended if you don't like the VB), for everyday use.  The other is a book bag, but it's huge, and it's exclusively for when we travel for overnight/ weekend trips, or for extended day trips far away from home.  It has enough room for food, drinks, clothing changes, diapers, wipes, etc.

When your LO is younger, having the regular diaper bag is really important, especially if you're not BFing/ don't want to BF in public.  Our has enough room for a small, soft lunchbag to keep milk/ cooler insert, as well as diapers, etc.  As DS has gotten older and eats meals a lot less often, I've been able to just stick a couple diapers and a pack of wipes in my purse.

  • @Sugargirl1019 I LOVE that bag in the all-black version! DH would probably still complain about the gold zippers if he had to carry it, though...

Seems like a great compromise of backpack/messenger bag-- I hate hate backpacks but I know it's necessary to have that as an option especially if babywearing. hmmmmm.

I've also been looking at Le Sportsac bags, since I love how lightweight their bags are, but I can't seem to find one that can be used backpack-style.
  • This is a little off topic, but I'm too lazy to go resurrect the other thread, but if you got a carrier, would you also get a stroller or vice versa? I feel like you would end up using one way more often than the other depending on which you preferred.

  • I am also in love with the JuJuBe BFF! I wish it was cheaper tho!

  • @mrsmarygs  We got both and used them fairly equally. The carrier worked well for me around the house when DS needed to be held but I needed to get things done. DH loved the carrier for walks/hiking/workouts. The stroller was great for longer outings, shopping, zoo, naps when DS was a little older. Plus, the stroller can hold so much stuff in the basket!

@AndiMac Thanks for that link! I love to see what's out there before I commit and put it on a registry! For the completion discount, because everyone will roll their eyes at the price of it. But sorrynotsorry baby will sleep in a shoe box as long as I have a quality stroller/carseat and diaper bag. ETA: that lily jade bag looks like something @mrs_tacos would be interested, and a great challenge for her husband $$$$

  • this is the one I have- Skip hop Duo. Its not love. I dont find I am able to organize very well with this and I its not very comfortable to cart around when you are baby wearing or chasing after a toddler. Everywhere I go at least a handful of other moms have the same bag which is more annoying than I thought it would be. I am looking into a backpack style this time.

  • I love looking at baby bags, too! Like you, I'm drawn to the expensive ones...of course. Ideally, I want something I can wear as a backpack but that also has a long strap. I want it to be easy to wipe off, and I don't really love patterns.

  • I have the Vera Bradley convertible diaper bag in solid black. It has two short handles, a long messenger strap, and the ability to easily re-thread the strap to convert to backpack carry. I just got it back in August because I wanted something that could be converted to a backpack because I thought that'd be easier for long days out of the condo shopping, walking around, etc. It could use some improvements, but for the most part, I'm happy. It looks nice and has good storage. My husband doesn't think it's very comfortable to carry as a backpack, but I think it might partially be because he has much broader shoulders. So he prefers to carry it crossbody messenger style. Since we're getting ready to add baby #2, I may look at getting a cheaper backpack-only one, as I'm sure I'll prefer a backpack the majority of the time with a baby and a toddler.
  • @HollyGolightly09 Have you seen the Oh Joy diaper bag backpack at Target. It looks so cute! It was on my list if we had a girl this time. Plus it isn't outrageous expensive.
