GTKY: What's in your kids (or your) Easter basket

A little Friday Chatter, those with children, what (if you celebrate) are you putting in your kids Easter baskets?

Those FTM's do you and you significant other fill baskets for each other?  If so what are you wanting in yours?  Or what are you getting your SO?

Re: GTKY: What's in your kids (or your) Easter basket

  • We are going pretty simple since it's DS' first Easter and his birthday is just 3 days before Easter this year!
I got him a board book and bubbles, and I'll probably pick up a new cup (we just started open cups and he thinks it's the best thing ever) and a water/sand toy. I'll put some yogurt bites and Cheerios into the plastic eggs.
  • Loading the player...
  • We found some cool stuff in the dollar spot at Target.  They are getting little watering cans because they are into planting and watering things, a wooden birdhouse to paint and a little excavation kit (gems and dinos).  They are each getting a new swimsuit and 2 books.  They will have some eggs with candy and some with stickers/bouncy balls/sticky hands.

  • We are going to be waking up super early in a hotel headed to Disney, so we bought the boys Stare Wars drawstring backpacks and we are going to fill them with activities for the plane, so those bags will become their carry-on bags.  Usually they have special Easter baskets.  I try to do more activity based things than candy (although now my kids like candy - they used to refuse to eat it.....I know, unreal).

  • I saw a cute idea of rain boots filled with candy / toys. I normally do bubbles and snacks more than candy. Might throw some juice boxes in them to fill space. I am not all about tons of candy. It normally goes to waste. And he could use some rain boots. When he was younger we would gets bunny books.
  • @tmrussell rainboots is cute!!

  • I have matchbox cars, crayons and a coloring book, bubbles, stickers, and a water bottle. Pretty much dollar bin items but he'll be really into it.
  • We usually do jump ropes, bubbles, stuffed animal, sidewalk chalk, and books.
  • @ladylolly89 our kiddos share a birthday!
  • DS1 - candy and a captain America shield nerf gun
DS2- candy and the pie face game.

i also got a family game for everyone - bean boozled! My kids LOVE this game.

DH and I do not exchange.
  • I am not sure what we are doing this year. Last year I bought lots of little toys to put in eggs to avoid giving too much candy. But all the small toys were not safe for my youngest and I just ended up throwing a lot of plastic in the trash (not very environmentally friendly). So what is worse - candy or plastic?

  • DD is 18 months old so she'll get crayons & a coloring book, a board book, some chocolate (it's Easter!), playtex sipsters cup (her fav cup), fruit snacks, and maybe some new cute cutlery. I'm thinking about adding some play-doh in there but I'm not 100% on that yet!
  • I'm doing mostly books this year. They both need new ones. I have a couple outdoor toys and will get some candy to put in eggs for them to find. We are having my oldests boyfriend (not really shes only 5 but she already told everyone they are getting married, and he just goes with it haha) and his mom over to do a egg hunt and eat. We also do the tradition where we plant jelly beans and magically lollipops grow overnight. The kids LOVE it! This year I WILL remember to turn off the sprinkler before setting out the lollipops.

Mom to Madison- 5 and Lillian 2....and now surprise baby #3!
  • My DD is OBSESSED with watermelons, so I found her a watermelon bathing suit/shorts/flip flops at Old Navy to put in hers.  DS is getting a Mickey Mouse shirt he saw a few weeks ago and hasn't stopped talking about. Also a new pair of very green crocs, bc in his world if it's not green, it's not worth wearing.  Other than that I usually get them a chocolate bunny, a couple Reese's eggs, and some bubbles/crayons.  I buy my DH a 4 pack of Cadbury eggs every year.

I got DD (17mos) a backpack so she can carry her own diapers/snacks when DD2 gets here. She is also getting sidewalk chalk, and I liked the swimsuit idea, so I might add one in.

DH and I never did brackets for each other, but occasionally I find candy I can't pass up, so I just make sure to get enough to share. Reeces eggs and Cadbury eggs are my weak spot. Also starburst jellybeans.

  • Easter basket talk has me excited for next year!
Hubby and I used to do baskets, but stopped a few years ago. Well, I told him let's do it this year! Local amish market has homemade candy, so I plan on going there first.

  • I have not even started on this! I usually do bubbles, coloring books or chalk. Small stuff and very little candy.  I like doing new swim suits or something they can play outside.  The rain boots are a great idea because we do not have them and my DD has been asking for some.

I do not think Easter is Christmas and it drives me crazy when people treat it that way . Maybe that's an UO and obviously other people's actions shouldn't effect me in that matter but what's wrong with a little basket with a few cute things?

Also my kids usually get Easter baskets from 3 sets of Grandparents as well and end up with so much candy or little crap that I would like to throw away.  But I don't say anything so I can't complain and the kids get so excited and happy.
  • This the first year we are giving DD (2.5) an Easter basket so we went a little overboard because I've been collecting items the last month.  Included are bubble guppies socks, play dough, a baseball mitt, ring pops, a bubble gun, paw patrol bop ball, and those grow capsules you throw in the water.  She loves jelly beans so probably a few filled plastic eggs too.  DH just gets peeps, and he prefers a package that has been open for a while so they are stale.

I really wanted to buy them a little indoor trampoline, so rather than buying it immediately, I'm buying it for Easter. I will "hide" both of their Easter baskets on top of it. Their baskets will each have a few books and some candy. If I didn't do the trampoline I probably would have also picked a small toy for each of them. I think last year it was kids gardening tools for one of them and some outdoor toy for the other one... Frisbee? Wiffle balls? I don't remember. Last year I also bought them matching dinosaur boat shoes because I saw them at Carter's and couldn't resist.
  • We are giving her Mickey Mouse clubhouse fridge magnet set, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, Easter story book, plastic eggs that I'll fill with snacks. Probably some more utensils
  • Farm animal bead stringing kit, Toddler I spy board book, Moana book, beginner scissors, playdoh, some Hershey kisses in eggs, bubbles, and probably any other random stuff I see from now until Easter.
  • @itsfine OK I snorted looking at that Duck & Goose Easter book.  We have that book and there is one page where they consider hiding in the mud to wait for the Easter bunny.  DS decided it was poop one day and when he makes me read it he refers to it as the poop book.

Like others, I try to put a mix of healthy sacks, toys (eg bubbles, color books/crayons), age appropriate candy and some necessities (eg new sippy cups).  This will be our first year hiding eggs for two kids.  DD was just too young last year so only DS looked for eggs.  I need to find a fair way to hide the eggs so they each get enough.  When I was little my parents put a first initial on our eggs so if I came across an "A", I knew it wasn't for me to take.  I'm not sure if I'll do that or something different.  A friend does different color eggs for her kids.  Anyone else have ideas as to how to tackle this?  Context: DS is 3 and DD is 17 months
  • @Elyse1384 we do colors and leave a note from the Easter bunny telling them which colors to find.  They are a little older though, 4.5 and 3.  It works though and they pretty much just focus on their own colors.

  • @FSUNole31 I like the color idea better that you and my friend mentioned.  Because DH and I want more kids, I don't want to have a ton of random eggs with initials on them that would necessitate buying more every year.  Plus, if the kids ever stumble across them, I don't want it to ruin the Easter Bunny magic.  I can always pass off non-initialed Easter eggs as things I bought for decorations or as my planning to have a separate egg hunt with the cousins. I vividly remember finding my mom's stash of "E" and "A" eggs, but I already knew by then...

I'm crazy like that.  For Christmas, I don't mind if the kids see the wrapping paper used from me and DH, but I desperately hide the wrapping paper used by Santa.  Ohhhh Mom worries... you are weird.
  • @Elyse1384 I do Santa paper too!  My husband thinks I am crazy, but I know they are old enough to pick up on it now.

  • @FSUNole31 Ha well that makes me feel better!  I freaked out at DH when he used "santa paper" to wrap a few gifts he picked up for the kids.  He despises wrapping gifts so he was beyond irritated that i made him re-wrap everything.  Sorry not sorry DH.
  • I have new crayons, some stickers, a little stuffed gorilla (her favorite animal at the zoo), and new hair bows. I bought a pack of 40 bows, so I'll probably just put a few in the basket and the rest will just appear in her room. Otherwise it'll be this, but with hair clips, all day:

  • DD (who will be 20 months) is getting a little bunny ball, a bunny hair bow, an old fashioned sticker book and a bunch of stickers, and a set of bangle bracelets because she is bracelet obsessed. I think I'll put some of the stickers in the plastic eggs we hide since she's too young for candy. Hubby also got her a pink mini soccer ball that I think I'll add in.

I'm trying not to buy us any candy since we always get so much from family, and I already ate a bag of Starburst jelly beans after that thread!
  • DH and I will probably go get discount candy the day after Easter. That's usually the way we celebrate most holidays together.
