Any knitters in the group?

Happy Saturday everyone! Any knitters (and/or crocheters) in the group want to share ideas/patterns for what you plan to make for baby? With my little guy coming just before fall, I plan to make him a pumpkin hat and also want to make something basic like this hat www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/basic-baby-hat in a light soft yarn for coming home from the hospital. I'm sure I'll want to make him many more things, but this is what I'm thinking so far!

I can't do patterns yet, but I can make blankets. I use lions thick & quick for them because their multi colored yarn makes it look like a pattern. So far I've started two baby blankets.

Yes! I plan of making a couple of wool Longies. A few hats and maybe a blanket. I've started on the pants but I'm being super lazy about them so far.

Yes! I've crcheted blankets, hats and booties for my close friends and family. Have pattern picked out for LO but am too tired to work on it. The bernat baby blanket yarn works up very quickly, and the from the middle pattern is gorgeous.

Same here. I can make scarves and blankets...Anything else and I am sunk. I knitted a baby blanket for DS using multicolored yarn and it turnes out surprisingly well. Iwould love to learn how to knit something more complicated, but I very much need someone to sit with me while I knit to show me. YouTube videos and magazines don't do it for me.

@CoastalMomma I'm the same way I learn better hands on. I've tried YouTube videos for hair tutorial and I always end up looking like an 80s fail. It never works.

What is the difference between knitting and crochet? I would love to learn how to knit. Katherine Heigl has a great blog and she knits the cutest things for her kids and friends/family for gifts.

I had a girl come to my house and do a private sewing lesson. I bet they have knitters for that too! Of course I sewed one pattern in the summer and I haven't picked it up since.

If you can find a local yarn store, they usually offer lessons for both knitting and crocheting.

I can't escape the quote box for some reason! But yes, I think even Michaels offers lessons in seeing and or knitting. I just need to do it!

If you search on FB, there are usually local knitting groups that get together once in a while. Which is great when you get stuck you can reach out for help.

@jessieR358 Knitting uses needles and follows some variation on knit and purl. It tends to be a bit harder learn but I like it more for clothing for aesthetics.

Crochet uses hooks and seems to be easier to learn. Project go quicker for me anyways. Those super cute hats you see around on kids are usually crocheted.

I've also done a bunch of hats. I used to knit them in the round but I found a few patterns that you just knit on regular needles, not in the round and then just sew the seam in the back. It's much faster for me this way so I've made a few hats for baby boy since he'll need them by October.

I also just ordered 7 skeins of yarn from Purl Soho for a baby blanket and I am dying for them to get here so I can start knitting. God knows I am not going to want to do that in August!

I also made what I call a snug or a baby cocoon https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/owlie-sleep-sack This was super helpful for walks in the bassinet in chilly weather. I didn't have to swaddle or worry about a blanket covering baby's face. You do have to do them in the round but they are soooo fast to knit up and so cute!

I used to knit when I was in junior high but I never had the patience to do big projects. I did knit a small baby blanket that ended up being about 18"x18". I think my mom kept it, now I have to go ask her if she can find it.

I've been slowly learning to crochet via Bella Coco on YouTube (she's fab and is also expecting her first baby). For sure a few hats, maybe some booties. Maaaaaaybe a blanket, but we have so many from the last two we really don't need any more.

I'm cloth diapering, and would kill to be able to whip up a pair of wool longies! Lanolize them and they're a great cloth diaper cover perfect for overnight, and super cute.

@Sugargirl1019 oh I need to look into that! I think the knitting part would be easy enough. Not sure how to lanolize but I'm sure there are YouTube tutorials?

@mrsjessS oh yes! It's not too complicated. Googling "how to Lanolize wool" will give you lots of info!
I love "playwoolies" too - what Sloomb brand calls their wool leggings.
