My doctor did one at my annual before I got pregnant - it wasn't too big of a deal. The glucose drink that they make you drink is super sugary and made me a little nauseous on an empty stomach, but other than that it was just a routine blood draw.
nothing major just make sure to take a magazine or something to read while you wait the hour. if you get a choice of flavors go for the orange i hear its the best. I had orange and it was bad at all.. just kinda like flat orange soda.. but my dr's office als keeps it chilled which makes everything easy to down.. the worst part for me was that i didnt take anything to read
It wasn't too bad. Kinda made me a little nauseous. Drink plenty of water before going, because the drink made me really thirsty, but you can't have water during the test.
i'm having my first one hour next because my mom has diabetes. they let me bring the drink home so that i can drink it at home and just show up right when i need my blood draw - hopefully your doc will do the same!
also, i was told that i have 10 minutes to drink the liquid then for the hour i "can not put anything in my mouth" hahaha...no food, drinks, water or even chewing gum/mint/etc.
When I had my test done, I had to drink a bottle of glucose syrup stuff that tasted like undiluted orange drink from McDonalds. I waited an hour and had my blood drawn. Piece of cake really. I did have to fast for 12 hours before hand but I just timed mine so we have the test done right before dinner and we went to Red Lobster.
For the 1 hr, I got the drink and brought it home. Got good advice to pour the amount over a ton of ice and use a straw so you don't taste it as much. Then I had to get to the dr's office in 1 hr (no eating or drinking) and get my blood drawn.
The 3 hr is a different story but guessing you weren't asking about that.
