So my WTF Wednesday goes to myself and pregnancy brain. Went to make a frozen fruit smoothie thing this morning. I have the Ninja system, so I usually use the bullet for smoothies but i find the packet of frozen goodness that I have been using lately just blends better in the full on blender. So I get it all set up, water, frozen fruit, tossed in some vanilla protein powder, the works. Slap it on the base hit "Frozen Smoothie" setting...it starts but nothing is blending...I FORGOT TO PUT THE EFFING BLADES IN. So I try to get the blade in wouldn't get all the way, so I had to dump it all into a bowl then put the blade in and then pour it all in. I made a mess and destroyed like 10 minutes of time instead of 2.
@labby18 Don't feel bad! I was boiling eggs for breakfast this morning. I put the water on, set the timer, and walked away. When I came back I realized had forgotten to put the eggs in the pan at all, but I had put in a half stick of butter.
My WTF Wednesday is a result from my appt yesterday. My appt was with the nurse practitioner (fine, great, I gotta see everyone, I get it) and she told me I need to do a glucose test and it has to be done by this Friday because they typically want it done between 16 and 18 weeks. Why TF has none of the doctors mentioned this before? I asked her why I needed to do two tests (one now and at 26 weeks) and she said because my BMI is not ideal. I am the same size I was when I had my first (and I didn't have to do this) and im just really irritated that I am given 3 days to do this... because you know, it must be assumed I don't have a job and a family to be concerned about. And then I was reading the post-visit notes on my chart and she put in a code for "high risk pregnancy" which baffles me because compared to my other doctor visit notes, no where is it mentioned that I am high risk -- but I suppose because my BMI isn't in the 'normal' range i'm suddenly categorized as this now. Im just irritated by the whole visit.
@sugarrush-2 wow. i have high BMI, I had to do the glucose test early (but the doc told me that at my 8wk appointment) but I am not considered high risk in my office. I hate when people just assume if you are overweight you are also unhealthy. Skinny ladies get GD too.
@sugarrush-2 Wow, I would be upset! Can you call and talk to someone about the unnecessary high-risk designation? I also had to take an early glucose test, but it was because of a long family history of diabetes, not because of my BMI, which is high. I hate the importance put on BMI anyway. Yes, I'm overweight, but I also have an athletic build, and have a lot of muscle- but no one cares about that when they're just looking at pure numbers.
@sugarrush-2 I also have to do the early glucose test, but I was warned at 12 weeks. I think basing it on BMI is stupid. My cousin's wife is super thin (bordering on underweight) and she had GD with all 3 babies. It can hit anyone.
@labby18@mrs_tacos and let's get real here -- I think the 'healthy' BMI is a joke. Sorry but I haven't been at 135-140lbs since I was in college. I get my physical every year and my numbers are glowing as if I was that 140lbs that I "should" be at. I mean, just like you say you can be healthy and still get GD, but us non-ideal BMI are branded like Hester Prynne... shame! shame!

@sugarrush-2 and @mrs_tacos I think BMI is a totally inaccurate way to depict one's health status. I know "normal BMI" range people who are have horrible health - high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc - but I have never had those issues, and actually eat quite healthy most of the time. Ugh.
My WTF is from my check up today! Doctor prescribed Diclegis because my nausea has been relentless... insurance wants prior authorization... and the doctors office said they "don't think they have ever done prior authorization for that medication." Left a message for the girl that does all of their prior authorizations, no word back... can take up to 48 hours says their answering machine! All I want is a little relief, ugh
Also found out that I will need RhoGAM - not a huge deal, but who wants additional vaccinations in the butt! I'm feeling extra cranky today.
@sugarrush-2 I think if you approach it like a question- "I noticed this, and no one had said anything to me about being high-risk because nothing is wrong with me, and I was wondering why"- it won't be bratty at all.

That's really odd of your insurance. Maybe because it's such a new drug. I can tell you that it has been a lifesaver over the past 7 weeks
@kners11 I feel you, except I get the shot in my arm. I don't think i've ever had a shot in my booty before. I was thankful that DD was also negative so I didn't need the shot post delivery. Hope its the same for you!
To go along with the other food fails, WTF me making frozen pizza last night... I set the oven pre-heat and then when it dinged saying it was ready, I put the pizzas in, then messed up the timer, so instead of just turning off the timer and resetting it, I also turned off the entire oven. So the pizza sat there getting.... slightly hot I guess in the turned off oven for 10 minutes. After that I just microwaved it. Whatever.
@sugarrush-2 I would be upset by this as well. If my pregnancy is "high risk" or considered to be so I better be told that rather than just having a note scribbled into my chart. I definitely think it is worth speaking to the doctor about.
BMI tells very little as far as health is concerned and I think it is a faulty way to measure the health risks that certain patients have.
@mrsmarygs My insurance is SUCH a pain! I don't feel like I can complain to much, at least I have coverage. But we are insured through my employer (a large hospital system) so there are so many rules about where I can have labs, testing, etc. done if I want it covered. I'm lucky to have no co-pays for pre-natal care... as long as I follow "the rules!"
So frustrating to know relief is potentially out there, but all of these hoops to jump through and red tape to get it!

No one is offering me wine. Instead, when I took a sip of DH's wine last week, someone said, "Should you really be doing that? Think of your baby." I almost throat punched him. I think my biggest WTF in general is how people think it's ok to judge and boss pregnant women. Unless you put this baby in me, or are going to help take it out, you get no input!
@kners11 Several of the ladies here recommend unisom and b6 as an alternative to Diclegis. From what I've seen it's similar in ingredients. Maybe you could try that in the interim?
@mrsmarygs Yes I've seen that as an option! Definately worth a shot until I figure out what's up with the RX. Thanks for the reminder, pregnancy brain is making me a bit foggy haha
@mrs_tacos Oh the "think of your baby comments" tick me off more than anything. I get that a bunch with my daily coffees/lattes. I keep getting told I'm increasing my risk of miscarriage and blablabla. I usually just tip a super long sip and say "mmmm, you know, this is so good" lol. No one should shame pregnant women for their choices and would greatly benefit from minding their own business.
@sugarrush-2 I would definitely be annoyed. If you are considered high risk, that's something you should be informed of. I have a high BMI and nothing has been mentioned about doing 2 glucose tests... and I won't go back until 20 weeks, so I doubt they try to squeeze 2 in after that.
@sugarrush-2 my ob is super nice and I have a great relationship with her. She told me that the guidelines around BMI and the glucose tests changed this year. I guess hey lowered their "bar" for a "normal" BMI pregnancy. I agree it sucks though.
@kners11 I do the B6 and Unisom. Works really well.
@kners11 I really wouldn't worry too much about the Rhogam shot! I had to get it in the butt with my last pregnancy, but it was more like extreme lower back and I was realllllly surprised by how much it didn't hurt. They had even given me a tech who had never given a shot.. which made me so nervous, but it really wasn't at all painful.
DH and I have been looking at buying a car to fit the carseat in (mine isn't big enough for a carseat) and we found the perfect car. My WTF is to my many savings accounts that have apparently less money than I thought and now I can't afford the new car (or any car) like I thought without having some serious financial issues.

@kners11 with last pregnancy and diclegis I had to get prior auth, but not for this one. You can actually call you insurance company and either ask for the form to be emailed to you or faxed to your OB office. It will be much quicker that way. They want to make sure you've tried other things first since it's a very expensive drug. You can also google ____ insurance company and diclegis prior authorization form and get the form. B6 and Unisom is similar but not the same as a diclegis. It didn't work for me, but maybe will for you! Good luck!

Ummm....my boss sent an email to me and our admin asking if we did something, I replied all that I didn't. Then got an essay of how I "dropped the ball" on my client...The client isn't mine, it's his...I replied back with 1 sentence..."I didn't work with ____, you did." I am yet to get a response. BUT DO NOT ACCUSE ME OF MESSING UP when I had NOTHING to do with that.
I'm doing my WTF Wednesday on Thursday.. just because it fits best here. Its about me. I'm literally sitting here on my couch saying "WTF?" To myself. We have our elective ultrasound today to find out the sex of the baby! Which is exciting, right? Why am I so nervous? I'm super anxious and sort of stressed. Why? No idea. I want very much to know if this is a boy or girl, but it's causing me some serious anxiety. Really.. wtf?
@labby18 it definitely is big news.. and I was sooo excited before I went to bed last night, so I'm sure you're right! I've been nervous before following excitement, but this is a major event! So probably the reason for anxiety! Thank you!
@wyomama0427 that thought actually did enter my mind. My mom would love for this to be a girl, but she's not actually putting any pressure on me. My sister definitely is! She keeps saying "this better be a girl" and today she's going to do something special for her students (teacher!) If it's a girl. I keep telling her that I'll be happy either way but maybe she's stressing me out more than I realized. Probably a mix of excitement like @labby18 said and some stress from my sister.
@beccam1230 my sister was the same way, except she just "KNEW" it was a boy from the beginning. Lol. I'm so very excited for you and I can't wait for you to find out! I know I won't be able to sleep the night before we find out! Which isn't until May 2nd at our A/S

@Lizlann I totally agree that doing something special IF it's a girl is strange. My mom is a computer teacher and she's always got pictures of her grand babies on her screensaver and her students all know the babies names and stuff, she brags a lot and her kids love to know about it for some reason. Like one time I visited my mom at her school and her students SWARMED me and knew every detail about my life at the moment lol "AWWW HE JUST GOT HIS FIRST TOOTH RIGHT?" But only doing something if it's a girl isn't cool in my opinion.
@wyomama0427 ahh, yes.. same with me, my next door neighbor was my only friend here and she moved last Fall!! But I also really enjoy everyone here, I feel more comfortable telling you all things that I'm not really ok with telling anyone else. I love being a part of such an awesome community!

@beccam1230 I am the same way!!! It's exciting to get ultrasounds but it can be nerve wracking too. They scheduled my 19 wk ultrasound for next Friday and while I've been totally nonchalant for the most part throughout the pregnancy, now I have become such a worrywart. Then there's also people that have an input about what the gender is going to be that can add to that stress.
Either way you are going to have a beautiful baby boy baby boy or girl and you are going to be a great mom.
I also find it strange that your sister is only going to do something special for the class if it's a girl.
