Tongue clicking

Hi there,
Looking for some help/advice!
My daughter is almost 7 weeks old, for the past 3-4 weeks she tongue clicks whole nursing. She clicks about 75% of feedings. I've pulled her off and try to get her to re-latchand she still clicks. I've adjusted our position and hold with no success. She is gaining weight and seems to be getting enough milk. I'm just wondering if this is an issue or just the way she feeds?

Any advice
Thanks!!
Danelle

Re: Tongue clicking

  • I just saw a lactation consultant today. There were two things she said could be contributing to my baby's tongue clicking that might be contributing to yours, too. The first thing she suspected was that my baby has a slightly tight ligament under her tongue and under her upper lip. After watching her nurse, though, she thought it was more likely due to too fast of a let down since that's the only time she makes the noise. Hope that helps some!

My LO did this and it was due to my established oversupply and fast letdown.
ETA, that was my experience though. There are several other reasons why babies do this while nursing, so, you and your LOs case could be different. I would check in with a LC if you can, or look for a BFing support group in your area.

Also, see kellymom for lots of info on clicking:
