Re: Weekly Randoms - Week of 3/27

  • It is a rainy and gross Monday morning.

I swear if my principal doesn't observe me today, I will riot. I need to get this observation done so I know if she'll let me apply for tenure so I can get my binder started. The stress of waiting is killing me.

Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!

  • @jsnakehole - I feel like you've been waiting for your principal for forever! Grr!

It's also a dismal, dreary day here - perfect for sleeping!

  • @kmalls LOL I've actually had a similar thing happen with geese (although I'd expect it from them, not turkeys!). I was pulling up to a stop sign, and as I was stopping the car, a goose flapped its wings up and threw itself at my car then bounced off! It was one of those "OMG, did it really just attack my car? moments". Thankfully I didn't need to get out of the car! Glad the cop was trying to help you and the kids out. <3

@kmalls this just made my morning hahaha. Sorry to laugh, but it is pretty funny. @JJMNO1616 yay all the tea!!

  • @haylsbayls Hahaha WOW. Now I want to go look at her post history.

  • @haylsbayls omg that post from 2015 is TOO MUCH. I don't understand what people get out of occasionally trolling a forum for two years. Do they not realize we can see their post history?
  • @JJMNO1616 I don't understand it either! All of her posts are super bizarre though. Are you that bored with life?!

  • "So we just tried and maybe an hour or so later I went to the gym to do weights and forgot myself and did this sit up machine. Would that movement push any speem the opposite direction ? Not even sure if I make sense but I keep thinking about it and it's making me so nervous"

Not sure if that was a typo on her end, or a word I've never heard before, but I think it's hilarious.

This week is going to be super slow at my office because it's Spring Break. I'm working on my online classes to finally get my RE License, and am hoping to start reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

My 3 year wedding anniversary is tomorrow! Pretty sure we will keep it low key, and just go to dinner or something since it's mid-week.  :)
  • I am using the  Ovia app and some of the questions people post on there are the most random things you will ever read, if someone posts they are pregnant people ask for tips on how to get pregnant, it's so weird

^ This ^ is why I have the Glow app on my phone!
  • @zwink1 I mostly just use it to  read the posts as my daily entertainment

@jsnakehole - I hope you get your observation soon! I know how nerve-wracking it is waiting for the observation, so you can start on your swanky binder!

@kmalls - What an adventure! I'm glad those feathery jerks didn't get you. I was taking a jog on a road a few years ago when my neighbor's geese broke out of their fence and were all like:

  • @morado23 Good for you if you still go to the gym without your Fitbit.  I don't like even walking without it on. I do step challenges every week with my friends so if I can't log my steps why bother taking them!
  • The band on my Fit bit broke off!! I feel so weird not wearing it and of course I took two walks and did the elliptical yesterday and I didn't have it on. I have to see if I can superglue it back together or something.

  • @kmalls I just read all the posts and "Wild turkeys attacked my car" made my morning! How many people get to write that in their lives? I'm glad you got out of there safely!!

@mschanandlerbong1214 I'm encouraged your doc suggested temping!! So many are dismissive of it, like we're incapable of doing it right. Or, worse, the "It's unnecessary stress" dismissal. Good luck now that you're officially trying!!

I hate how the Bump app won't let you check post history. I missed the IUD lady's post history. Bad discussion-to-reply ratio!!

  • @shortstack930 I feel like I should get on the Fitbit bandwagon but I'm worried it'll just depress me with the lack of exercise I'm doing. Do you think having it on is an extra motivator to get moving?

    Random:
Does anyone use a pressure cooker on the regular? I'm planning to cook a whole chicken tonight and have some questions.
  • @kmalls - I use an Instant Pot. I've never tried to cook a whole chicken before, but I can try to answer any questions for your culinary quest! :)

@AlohaKumu I guess it's more of a poultry question in general. If I leave the skin on (which the recipe calls for), won't the skin turn out mushy? I feel like crispy skin is impossible in an IP.
  • I use the sauté feature to crisp the skin prior to cooking, but it does lose a bit of its crisp with the pressure.

This site also recommends using the sauté feature on the Instant Pot or putting the chicken in the broiler for about 5 minutes before pressurizing it. https://www.mommypotamus.com/instant-pot-pressure-cooker-whole-chicken/

  • @kmalls yes I definitely feel like it motivates me more! If I look down and see I only have like 2500 steps I'm like ooh boy I need to get on the elliptical tonight.

@MJDsquared glad you found an RE! I have the same feelings--my first RE appointment is May 15 and I keep secretly hoping I'll get KU before then and have to cancel. I'll keep hoping for you though!!
