I voted SS because I voted somewhat between proudly and reluctantly for Hillary. I didn't hate her, was glad to vote for the first female candidate, but didn't think either one was a great choice. Though I disliked Trump a lot more.

I have been pretty open about my political views (no, not crazy open, and no, I will not really debate you either) but I went for Hillary. My beloved brothers (3 of them, btw) all voted for Trump. I am not against a Republican president, by any means. I am more fearful about his hot twitter fingers then I am his policies.
I don't think not being American makes me a special snowflake.

i am curious though, anyone who voted for Trump...does anyone think "oh shhh..... what did i do?" promise i am not judging your vote. i just wonder bc my newsfeed is full of so many people trying to explain away events. i am just interested if there is anyone that is like "uhhh not what i signed up for, i thought mexico was paying?"
Same @jessafishy. I was proud to take my daughters to vote for who I thought would be the first female president but I would've much more proudly voted for Bernie. And I definitely think he would've won if those had been the options..

@carries2018 I've said before, I'm pretty moderate and my group of friends reflect that pretty well. These are my observations from the election:
- I would say that about 25% of people voted straight party lines. It wouldn't have mattered if the Cookie Monster was running (kind of support that myself), they would have voted for him if he fell in their party lines. They did no research (I'm also including state/local elections), they just checked that box and said "done." - I cannot tell you one person I know that is a "proud" Trump voter. I think this poll kind of reflects what happened IRL. Most people who voted for him were part of the "silent" majority. They didn't talk about it. They didn't advertise it. I only know this because I have a reputation for being politically neutral and people tend to tell me this stuff more because they know they won't get a big reaction out of me either way. - Another big group of voters were the "fear" ones. It's pretty split between "I'm scared of Hillary being president so I voted for Trump" and "I'm scared of Trump being president so I voted for Hillary." They didn't like the candidate they voted for, but they were more scared of the other candidate being in office. - No one I know that voted for him has expressed much remorse for it. I mean, it's like I said in FFFC - I feel like the media focuses on the dumbest stuff.
I'm not sure if that really answers your question, but those are my takeaways from it all

I live in a state that always votes red so I decided my vote didn't matter much so I protest voted third party. I truly despised both choices. If I lived in a swing state I may have very reluctantly went Hillary. Would have voted for Bernie had it been a choice.
@carries2018 I have a similar question for anyone who voted Trump.
Has 1. becoming pregnant and/or 2. seeing what he's actually trying to do with healthcare (e.g. killing the maternity coverage requirement) altered how you feel about him in any way?
I read an article this morning about a woman who voted for him and now her husband is being deported. I'm curious if his policies are starting to hit closer to home for any of you, too.
I voted SS because I voted somewhat between proudly and reluctantly for Hillary. I didn't hate her, was glad to vote for the first female candidate, but didn't think either one was a great choice. Though I disliked Trump a lot more.
This is pretty much how I felt too. I was definitely not going to vote for Trump, but I voted for Bernie in the primaries and had to talk myself into voting for Hillary in the national election.
oh see i know tons of proud Trump supporters. and i live in MA. land of the liberals. so if i see how they are marching up and down the streets (figuratively) i can only imagine conservative states. it is just so weird to me after everything that has come to light...Russia, healthcare, the dang wall. i just havent seen anyone say "oh hey wait a minute. this isnt what i signed up for"
I live in conservative Texas, and I have seen a few people show remorse for voting for him (on FB), and they were pretty much destroyed on social media for admitting it. It was painful to see, because I know it wasn't easy for them to come out and admit that. I don't understand the logic for tearing someone down when they admittedly regret a choice they made, but after seeing that I can understand how or why I don't see it more often. I voted 3rd party, but have also observed people on FB say that they hate 3rd party/no voters just as much as a Trump voter, so I just like to not say anything and keep my friends and family.

@ChocolateIsLife exactly. DH is the only one who knows who I voted for. I just don't discuss it because in my experience, if you didn't vote the same as the other person, it's just going to be a bunch of yelling and screaming. I rarely see people be able to discuss opposing political views in a rational manner, so I just stay out of it, vote the way I feel is best, and hope for the best. I usually vote 3rd party (and get crucified for it, even though the states we've lived in previously have been very heavily blue or red) but this is the first time I've lived in a swing state where I felt like my vote actually mattered, so it made my decision a little more complicated this go around.
For the record, my official ballot had a pretty good mix of Democrats, Republicans and 3rd party votes. I researched every last person on my ballot and made what I felt like was an informed decision.

@chocolateislife that is hard to see. i would rather people acknowledge they made a mistake. it would make me feel better that people aren't truly standing behind all this. restore some faith in humanity haha. i do also get it has been 2 months, people are still clinging onto hope that it isnt as bad as we are seeing. we just need to give it time. but i would still hope there was an "oh ish" moment in their heads even if it is privately.
@natleilynn I think we may have very similar views there.
@Carries2018 it is a bit surreal to think it has only been 2 months though. Also, I think with social media, people tend to be a bit more prideful and opinionated, and naturally don't want to admit fault, as it shows weakness (silly I know, but that's human). I'm sure personal views behind closed doors are completely different and it will take some people more time to reassess whether they made a mistake or are content with voting for him. My IL's are passionately excited that he is president, and it frustrates me, not that they voted for him, but because they fish for arguments to have with others who don't 100% agree with his views. They seek out confrontation and it has damaged their relationship with many family members. Man, thinking about politics makes me really crave a margarita right now.

i agree, but i am not even looking for FB proclamation of mistake. i wouldn't do that either if it were me haha. but just individual conversations. i haven't seen any regrets.
I voted 3rd party and it's the first time I've done that. It's so hard, because I heard SO many people say "I think Johnson would be great, but there's no way he can win, so I'm not wasting my vote". What if all of those people had just gone ahead and voted for him? I also had people tell me that I wasted my vote and people like me are responsible for Trump's win, which makes me incredibly stabby.

I would've voted 3rd party, I was fully on team #feelthejohnson, until he spent the last 3 months before the election showing me how unqualified he was for the position. Some of the shit he said even made Trump look like an educated candidate.
Well with the electoral college, our votes don't count anyway. They're simply to see what the people want. They're not necessarily used in the election process. I didn't want either of them to win. But I disliked Trump more.
@carries2018@roo-baby I voted for Trump mainly because I wanted a Conservative Justice....if Gorsuch goes through, I have gotten what I voted for. My second reason was to vote for the most pro-life candidate....I still believe Trump is such. I was horrified to vote for Trump but more horrified to vote for Clinton but I live in a swing state so felt like a third party vote would have been a wasted vote.
