Trying to Get Pregnant

TW Tuesday

I really need this thread.  Tell us who is being a twatwaffle on this beautiful spring day!

Re: TW Tuesday

  • My TW is my husband! For the past couple years we have gone with his parents to AZ for a father/son baseball tournament at the end of October. I always look forward to it and we have a great time. But it is a 20+ hour drive so we always fly. If I get KU in the next two months, that would put me in 3rd tri at that time so I wouldn't be able to go. Since his parents started asking about it, H and I decided we would just stall for the next couple months since its a big question mark at this point. So I just got a text from him saying that the price for the flight is really good and we should buy them now. When I asked him about TTC, he says we will just have to put that off for now......ummmmmm what???? After 6 months of not being able to even try, he now wants to "put it off?" I am seriously in shock. Ugh!

FWIW most airlines allow you to fly up to 34 weeks, so even if you got KU this cycle, you would be okay to fly in October!

  • kvacmak- Really?! Is it just a myth that you aren't allowed to fly in the 3rd tri? I can't even remember where I heard that from, I just always "knew" it to be true. hm interesting. Thanks so much for the info!

@LaurenEG14 I second what @kvacmak said.  My former OB told me they just don't recommend pregnant ladies to fly in the first month or last month of pregnancy

The military system is being a big, fat TW this morning. Honestly, after being in military relationships for over a decade, I am all for my husband getting out at this point, even if it screws with everything else. I'm sick of all these "surprises" that constantly disrupt our lives.

  • @RVAmom315 why can't you fly in the first month of pregnancy?  I knew about the last month, but never heard about the first.
  • @dilynne @EmilyLove25  Men are unbelievable! I'm glad I'm not that only one calling her husband a twatwaffle.  Now I don't feel bad about it!!!
  • @TigerCakes Honestly I'm not sure, maybe something with the air pressure? I didn't think twice when she mentioned it *TW I was 29 weeks when I asked end TW*

  • @RVAmom315 Hmmm well now I'm worried! I travel a decent amount for work so not travelling in the first month wouldn't really be an option, especially since you don't really know you're pregnant until you get to the 2nd month.  I'm off to google haha.
  • @RVAmom315 - I'm also curious about flying in the first month and if your doctor elaborated?  And by first month would that be the first month you generally know? Because when you turn a pregnancy test you're usually more or less 4 weeks in (which is more or less a month).  So would you not fly if you're trying?  Or did your doctor mean the first month you know, which would it be up until 8 weeks?  Is it a first trimester thing because of potentially getting sick?

I hope my list of questions doesn't come off as me being snarky, I'm honestly curious.

  • @Tennis11785 No worries!  This was 4 years ago, but she just said they generally don't recommend flying in the first or last month of pregnancy.  Which, now that you mention it, is strange because you really "don't know" you're pregnant in the first month.  I didn't ask her to elaborate since I was asking specially about my situation at the time. @TigerCakes I'd definitely ask your OB his/her thoughts on that if you travel a lot.  I think it'd be very difficult to not fly when you're TTC especially if that's a large part of your job

  • Although I hadn't heard recommendations not to fly in the first month, I wonder if it has anything to do with increased exposure to radiation when flying (not just from the security line). By having fewer cells at that point, DNA damage caused by radiation could cause a higher risk of miscarriage or defects. But I've never come across a scientific article studying this, so it's just speculation on my part.

@tigercakes @RVAmom315 As far as I know there is nothing wrong with flying in the first month. TW***I flew multiple times  from weeks 2.5 (right after IUI)-7 while under care of an RE. If flying would have compromised the pregnancy in any way they would not have let me go. Also it was a twin pregnancy both of whom are normal toddlers. end TW***

  • A *TW* for this TW

My husband's friend's girlfriend posts on Facebook about nothing but her baby. The one she used to trap her BF. Every. Damn. Post. She even comments on things she liked saying she didn't like them, the baby did. Like, we get it, you got KU on purpose because he was getting ready to dump you. But you have to have a life outside of your baby, right?

So did she lie about being on BC or something?? I'm always intrigued by these stories lol

  • @JJMNO1616 I think she stopped taking her pill consistently. I don't know the whole story. I know that their relationship was so bad my husband had to drive up there and mediate them talking out their issues. She lives in the house her BF owns and wasn't lifting a finger and was barely working and getting on him about not getting engaged (and then had a million complaints about how he was going to propose). He was supporting her and her son from her first marriage and she was doing nothing (except being a total bitch when I came to visit with DH). He was telling my husband he was going to end it, he just wanted to give her a chance to get her shit together so she could take care of her son. Six weeks later she's pregnant.

That's just an overview. There was way more drama than that.

  • My TW are my now ex-coworkers. Today was my last day at my current job and  I start my new job on Thursday. I thought maybe a goodbye? a card? maybe a cake? I'm close with my coworkers too so i was really suprised. Our unit clerk got a promotion within our unit, she is now the program secretary (essentially the managers assistant) so she is still on our floor...and she got flowers, an email was sent congratulating her and a collection was taken and everyone got her a nice gift. And she didn't even leave! I got nothing...no goodbye, not even an email wishing me well, no gift...nothing. Shows that nurses are just expendable....
