@SpongeWorthy I've been obsessed with The Great British Baking Show lately and I feel like those are worthy of the competition!
@LuLiLaEv I love the idea of a sibling class. We are reading DD the I'm a Big Sister book everyday and we bought her a little doll baby but I still think it's not quite sinking in. I guess in a few months it'll get pretty real for her lol.
Re: fasting- Last time, I was told to fast for 12 hours beforehand. This time, my MW told me to eat a normal breakfast so I guess it depends on the doctor's preference? I don't take it for another month or so.
DH and I got a new mattress because ours is so unbearable. It gets delivered tomorrow and I'm so excited! We got an adjustable base so now I can elevate my feet without the use of 6 pillows lol.
@SpongeWorthy those cookies look awesome! I've always wanted to try baking pretty cookies or making an awesome fondant covered cake, but I don't think I have the skill for it haha. I love watching the baking and cooking shows, especially with the kids who are the bakers/chefs!
FWIW Re: fasting, my doctor told me to fast, but the nurse told me to eat. I think either is fine, but if you eat, make sure you're not eating anything with added or natural sugar, or carbs (bread, fruit, cereal, etc.) Bacon and eggs that others have suggested would be fine, from my understanding.
@OperaSingerMommy iv been meaning to watch that show, I am obsessed with cooking/food. @SpongeWorthy those are so pretty ur a professional I'm getting JJ!
@SpongeWorthy those cookies are gorgeous! I used to bake a decorate sugar cookies. It's fun! But I admit it is very time consuming to do them. Mine weren't quite as sophisticated looking as yours.
For those not looking fwd to that drink for glucose testing , you could also ask for jelly beans instead?.. maybe you could ask your doctor. My doctor offered that option to me aswell that's how I know.
EDIT: Jelly Beans!!! Although I do love jelly babies.
Honestly curious: I thought you weren't taking the test? Did you change your mind or did you decline jelly beans too?
She has to explain all of it in my next appointment and she said I was going to meet another specialist aswell.. but from what I remember her telling me it's over a 2 week span around 4 times a day (I think not certain)
edit to add: Doc got my blood work done aswell at my last appointment to get a better idea of how my blood sugar was looking in the first trimester.
Traveling for work...again. I feel like I'm gone more than I'm home these days! My son has soccer practice tomorrow night (hoping to be home in time for it!) and then my husband has a softball game.
As as far as sibling classes, I'm debating send my son to one. He will be 5 next month and has never really held a baby before. We will see!

Well hell. If we're going by that, I should probably take a class. I don't hold babies often and I've NEVER changed a diaper. But seriously... I'm 32 and have never changed a diaper. We just never really had babies in the family. One of my cousins has two young kids but I don't see her all that often bc she lives out of town.
@ginger1228 that makes 2 of us. I'm 32 and have never changed a diaper either. My mom caught me googling it and thought it was hysterical. I'm definitely planning on a newborn basics class!
@ginger1228@lanie1000@Twinkiedoll My DH and I went to a baby 101 class held by the hospital. Practiced "diaper changes" and swaddling on dolls. The videos were at least 10 years old and the class probably could have been an hour shorter, but both of us walked out feeling like champs. Good for confidence if nothing else, and we got some tips on our hospital from the L&D nurse teaching the class.
@ginger1228@lanie1000 the first time I ever changed a diaper, it was DS's in the hospital when he was born. I had no idea how to do anything baby related, and there was no class in my area, so we just went with it. The nurses were phenomonal, and showed us everything during our hospital stay. You figure it out pretty quick.
My DH had no idea how to care for a baby, haha. We're taking all the classes the hospital offers! There's even a Daddy Bootcamp, which I'm forcing him to go to. I'll also be taking a breastfeeding class.
+1 to never having changed a diaper before my son. My husband and I took a newborn class and practiced on dolls, but we really learned what we needed to know with some trial and error once our son arrived. Nothing can really prepare you for a water fountain of pee from an uncovered baby boy...
DH had never changed a diaper or held a newborn. He literally became a pro within a week (I basically made him change every diaper). He didn't want to take a class but I made SURE he watched the videos about infant choking 100 times. Aaaand he still froze like a deer in headlights the first time she choked as I ripped her out of her seat to give her back blows.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
You guys made me feel better! Everyone in my "real" life (haha) looks at me like I have three heads when I tell them I've never changed a diaper. Good to know a lot of others hadn't until they became parents.
My husband has never done a diaper either. We signed up to do a baby care class in May for him to feel more comfortable. I'm assuming it'll save at least one sleep deprived argument once the baby is here.
My husband has never changed a diaper or held a baby (except maybe his younger brother, many many years ago). For me, its been a while since I've changed a diaper (10+ years, back in my nannying days) but I feel like it is like riding a bicycle... right?
When I had my first born girl I had a lot of experience with my 3 sisters but when I had my son I had no clue what to do. I remember calling in the nurse to ask her how to clean him. I remember saying I know how to clean a girl's diapers but I've never changed a boy's diaper in my life. She was nice about it. I will say cleaning up boys is faster than girls.
@Poppyseed72017 I've been concerned about that too, it's mostly females around me and iv never changed my nephew because I was younger then.. . only my niece!
@ladybray If possible, I'd call your doctor to see if they can refridgerate it for you. Some OBs keep their glucola cold and that makes it much more tolerable for some women. Unfortunately, my OB does not and the nausea came almost immediately after drinking it. I was able to keep it down by staring at the ceiling and breathing really slow and deep breaths, but if you already have sugar aversions right now, you may need a super cold drink.
I'm another one that has never changed a diaper. And I can't ever remember holding a newborn or a baby that was a few month's old. None of my friends in the city have kids. It will be all new to me and my DH!
I'm so sorry for all of you guys that have yucky glucose drinks! I actually didn't mind mine at all. It taste like orange sparkling water. The dr said it was some new kind. It didn't make me feel that weird or anything either and I don't usually drink sugary drinks (although I've been giving into soda a lot recently after not drinking it for 10+ years).
I haven't changed a diaper since I was a babysitter... which was almost 20 years ago. DH never has. And we're both pretty terrified about holding newborns. We're taking a class at the hospital in May, and we'll be counting on sympathetic nurses to show us some tricks during the first day or so after the baby is born.
Just remember- the baby doesn't know you have no idea what you're doing.
I was pretty clueless about diaper changing when DS was born. Like I had seen other people change diapers, but I'm not sure if I had ever done it myself. The nurses showed DH how to change a diaper in the hospital, and he showed me, and it was really NBD. As far as classes, we did a childbirth class and a child CPR class before DS was born. I'm looking in to something we can do with DS. His teachers say he has been playing with the baby dolls lately.
Yeah I also hadn't changed a diaper until our daughter was born (my husband had changed his nephew once), but we figured it out. Nothing to stress about ladies! You learn as you go. I would go as far as to say newborn care classes might be nice if you want to feel prepared but not really necessary even if you've never held a newborn.

My hubs was a rockstar when DS was born. The first diaper I changed was the day he went back to work after 3 weeks off! And I ended up with poop all over my hands! Ha! It came naturally after that! Pretty sure I can change a diaper in 2.5 seconds flat!
So we just had our "backyard swimming pool" quoted for a French drain from Plumberologist! $8500!! i couldn't believe how expensive it is- although it has to be done. Buuuut the guy who came out said his wife is pregnant with their first boy due July 29! Didn't know if she's on here but what a small world if she is!
Lots of diaper changing over here thanks to my niece and nephew and all my friends kids. My sister is a swaddle-master though so I'll need to get some of those tips from her. I'm not sure who has more experience with babies, DH or me. Granted it has been a long time for him but he has all younger siblings and babysat a lot of people's kids when he was a teen. You get used to it really quickly. I remember with my sisters first I was so careful with him. With her second I was much more confident and the nervousness had subsided by that point. If you watch how the nurses/staff handle them when they come out, you'll know they're not nearly as breakable as you think they are haha!

I learned how to swaddle from the Happiest Baby on the Block video, which I highly recommend to every new parent. It's super cheezy, but so much good info there! I was able to swaddle with regular blankets for a long time with this method, and never felt like I needed the zipper or velcro ones.

I am 34 and only changed my first diaper in November. My friend taught me how to change her baby after I told her I was pregnant.
DH definitely wants to sign up for a class to at least learn baby CPR.
my happy boy
