Anyone still breastfeeding?

DS turned 2 in December and we were intending on weaning at that point. Then cold/flu season hit and we keep getting (literally) booby trapped by illnesses. Anyone else still nursing while pregnant? Planning on weaning? Planning on tandem nursing?

Re: Anyone still breastfeeding?

  • I am still nursing my 21 month old DD. I dont plan on weaing just going with the flow. If she is still nursing when the new baby comes Ill tandem nurse. My breast havent even been sore but maybe its because they are already in use??
  • @kelleyE3812 I had a brief week around 4-5 weeks where my nipples hurt bad but that has passed. We're down to just bedtime and naptime now and have cut out overnight nursing and daytime completely.

If it could stay stay like this I'm ok with slowly letting go of the rest, but before he was obsessed and wanted to nurse constantly which was why we were pushing weaning a little harder. I had started resenting it since I couldn't even sit down without him down my shirt.

  • I am still BF my 18 mo. we only nurse about once a week, so he'll probably wean soon. I will push the issue if we are still BF by 20 weeks. I don't want to tandem nurse.

  • My 13 month old DD still nurses first thing in the morning and before bedtime. She sometimes gets it before naps too but it depends on what our day is looking like. I don't plan to push weaning, but the thought of tandem nursing intimidates me.

  • Hi! So grateful for this thread. I am breastfeeding my twin ds who are 21months and showing no sign of slowing down! They do sleep thru the night but breastfeed 8-10x a day unless sick then it doubles  :o i am planning to ask my ob about any concerns but would love to continue and somehow tandem with new baby  <3

@darlabauer sounds like we are in the same boat except I only have one! are yall sore at all?
  • My little one is only 4 months (this upcoming baby was a surprise....) so I'm still breastfeeding exclusively. I'm hoping to carry on all the way through until the next baby arrives and then wean my daughter when she's around one, but I'm already having some supply issues now my body is supporting two, so we'll see...
  • I am still nursing my 18 month old. When I found out I was pregnant I decided to start weaning him. He was nursing on demand throughout the day and now we are down to nap time, bedtime, and once during the night. I haven't been too sore, nothing like I was when I was pregnant with my son!

@kelleyE3812 Just nipple tingles not too sore yet but I may have just adjusted to their acrobatic bf style :/ I am expecting more tenderness to come but nothing can be as bad as mastitis!!!!!
  • I am still nursing my 13 month old, but hope to wean soon. This pregnancy was a little bit of a surprise.

You are a champion! Seriously, that is impressive!! i would love to tandem but I just know I'm done. If they had been closer together it would have worked for us, but at this stage we had a good run lol
  • This thread is just what I needed to read. Still feeding my 18mo. Still feed him to sleep aND whenever he wants really. Part of me is hoping he will wean himself during this pregnancy but not sure how likely this is. I'm avoiding making decisions!
  • I'm just not sure I am up to tandem nursing. Plus my boobs need a freaking break!!!
  • I think it's safe to say we've officially weaned. He still asks for it a few times a day but doesn't freak out when I say no. I nursed him to sleep on Friday for his nap, which I hadn't done in weeks, and kind of decided that was it.

It was the 3 year anniversary of when he was conceived so the symmetry of everything kind of felt like closure. I'm a little sad but overall ok with it. I shared my body with him in some form for 3 solid years, now it's time to focus on the new one.
  • I missed this thread earlier in the week, but I'm still nursing my 2 year old. Well 2.5 next month! I have started to get very very sore over the weekend (as if I have a newborn nursing) and I don't know if I can take it! We only usually nurse first thing in the AM, before afternoon nap, and at bedtime. I skip any of those without issue when I can't be there, so I might have to implement the phase out. Mixed feels.
  • I'm still nursing my 12 DD, and omg my breasts and nipples hurt so bad. I was hoping to nurse her until she was at least 2 years old. If everything goes well, I'm going to try tandem nursing both of them. I just hope that my nipples stop hurting so much. They're almost always sore at this point.

  • I'm nursing my 13 mo when he wakes in the night, usually once or twice. My first two kids started STTN and weaned around this age, and I'm hoping he will too.

It was immediate for us. As soon as we night weaned he started STTN. We were closer to 2 years, but I'll definitely be starting earlier with this one.
  • Question, is anyone else CONSTANTLY hungry since we're basically nourishing 3 from the food we eat? It seems like maybe 30 minutes to an hour after I eat, I'm hungry again. I hate eating so much in front of my 12 mo because she's like a vulture. She'll stare at me and want some even if she just ate.

  • I am still BF my 17 month daughter, only before work, right after and night. My plan is to go with the flow as she has been cutting back so much on her own. I have a feeling she will be done by the time this baby arrives but if not that's fine too :)
  • Good work weaning BayCamp.  Such an awesome effort nursing for so long. I'm still so conflicted about what to do. Nursing is getting painful though.
  • I'm still nursing my 19 month old. He isn't ready to be done. I stopped pumping last week though. My milk supply dropped a ton and it just wasn't worth it. He still nurses morning and before bed and sometimes when I get home from work. I did tandem for about 3 months when he was born, and I'm not looking forward to it again, so my goal is to get him to his birthday and then be done.

  • I'm still nursing my 11mo, but am planning on weaning in the next month or so, and definitely stopping pumping at work in the next couple of weeks. I don't have any interest in tandem nursing. This surprise pregnancy hasn't changed my goals, though. I always planned to start weaning after 12mo.
