TTC After a Loss

3rd Miscarriage in 12 months....

Hi, Last week we lost our 3rd pregnancy in 13 months.  My Dr. has pushed me off to a specialist.  I can't get into one until End of March for one place and beginning of April for the other.  Between now and then, I need to do something!!!  I'm still bleeding from this loss.  My head is spinning.  I'm going to be 40 this year and feeling depressed. Not hopeful that having another baby will be successful.  What kinds of vitamins are you taking after a loss while you wait and prepare your body for TTC again? I get super overwhelmed reading anything on the internet for how to boost egg & sperm quality.  What are some simple things you are doing to get prepared? Have you seen a specialist before? What can I expect at our consult?

Re: 3rd Miscarriage in 12 months....

  • Hi.  So sorry that you are here and your losses.  I continued to take my prenatal after loss.  Haven't been to the specialist yet as it was my first preg.  Can you call to say that you will take last minute cancellation appointments?

  • Thank you. <3 And I'm sorry for your loss as well. No matter 1st or 3rd it's so emotionally draining.  I am on the waiting list for both locations.  But there are at least 15 people ahead of me.

  • Hi. I'm so sorry for your losses. I had 2 MCs in the last year, and went through the recurrent loss work up with a specialist. The wait does suck, but I'd recommend calling the specialist and seeing if you could get testing started. Some tests (like karyotyping to see if you or your H have any genetic defects on your chromosomes) can take 4-6 weeks to get results. If you can do testing now, then you could go over results with your RE (reproductive endocrinologist) in March, which will speed things up considerably. Since you've had three losses, your insurance may even cover the testing. If it's an issue that is easily fixable, it's better to start treatment sooner.

One book you could read is It Starts With The Egg. It goes over the current science on what may help egg quality, and what supplements are useless. It's a little extreme in its recommendations, but it's a place to start.

I'm sorry @LUVS17. Here is what I do: BBT, CM, CP, OPK, PNV, CoQ10, B complex, magnesium, Vitamin D3, Vitex, Maca, PreSeed. I had a recurrent loss panel done while pregnant due to previous bleeding issues and nose bleeds while pregnant. I miscarried 2 weeks later, so I actually did things backward.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

  • @LUVS17 I'm sorry for your losses. Good luck with the specialist, hopefully you can get some answers.
  • Sorry for your losses.  I've also had 3 losses in a 12/13 month period.  After the 3rd I was sent to a REI specialist.  I'm not sure what area you're in, but in the DC area there are a ton of Shady Grove Fertility Centers (where I was sent) and I got an appointment in a few weeks.
They ran me through the gamut of tests.  Our first meeting with the doctor was just to go over what the problem possibilities could be, to get our history, what we tried, etc.  Then we were sent through tons of RPL testing.  We had bloodwork drawn and a sperm analysis, and a dye test to see my uterus, and I took the Counsyl test.
Fortunately/Unfortunately for us, nothing came back as a problem.  That means either we've gotten crap luck or bad embryos.  But, the tests are super comforting in knowing that I wasn't losing babies due to some simple problem that they could fix.
Before I went to the REI, after my 2nd loss I'd been sent just to talk to a MFM specialist.  She recommended aspirin, as that could possibly help but would do no harm.  I also take my prenatals regularly.
    Hope this helps!  Good luck!

  • Sorry for your loss, I had 2 losses in a 6 month period. I am benched for 6 months so I'm not doing anything even though I should continue to take my prenatal (they make me retain too much water so I took a break from them). My doctor haven't mention anything about seeing a specialist yet and I honestly don't want to unless I have a 3rd loss so we will see. I hope you will be able to get answers.
  • I'm sorry for your losses :( I take DHEA and coq10

  • Update: so my ovulation was off after the 3rd loss. We followed the schedule like we normally do for protected and unprotected sex. Well I got pregnant anyway and was not expecting that! So my appt. with the specialist is still goin to happen because well I'd rather be established with her just in case and then we hopefully won't have to wait two months if we need to see her.  For now though, I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow. Betas all look good and we're going in for early u/s next week. Thank you for all your thoughts.  praying we have a sticky baby this time! <3
