Small tear in placenta

sorry if this should be posted somewhere else, I just really need some feed back my anxiety it running rampant.

So I had an ultrasound and doctors appointment today. The ultrasound went well everything looked normal and baby was right on track for 15 weeks. Then I went to my doctors office and talked to the doctor and she said due to my occasional spotting she thinks I have a small placental tear that they couldn't see on the ultrasound.
She said no bed rest yet but she wants a more comprehensive ultra sound in 4 weeks (or sooner if there's more blood) so she can get a better picture of the tear. Then she started talking about how it can lead to the baby dying, pre term labor, or hemorrhage and this could go any direction. She didn't seem horribly worried but she did say it was to be taken seriously. I thought if they couldn't see it in the ultra sound it wouldn't be that big a deal but it sounds bad. I thought everything would be okay once I made it out of the first trimester and all my genetic stuff came back good. I just need some relief from the anxiety. On top of that I've never been so depressed and I really don't have a reason why other than I never feel like the baby is safe so I can't get attached to him.

Has as anyone heard of this? Have a experience with it?

  • Yes I logically know that I can't worry yet but I was already a hot mess, the only reason I make it out of bed daily is my husband and the fact I NEED to graduate
  • You would think if they couldn't see it in the ultrasound that it must be very small which has to be a good thing! I think there is a good chance that these types of things resolve themselves. At 12 weeks they said my placenta was separating from the uterine wall and they couldn't detect any separation two weeks later. I feel you on the not getting attached to baby quite yet. Especially with bleeding and anytime you get news that you may be at risk it's hard to keep your spirits up. I've been on a roller coaster of ups and downs in these last 16 weeks, I just try to hold on to the good news and let go of the bad, there's nothing that worrying will help (or so my husband tells me). Praying it all resolves and you can begin to get attached to your precious little one!
  • Just take it easy and let it heal! When I was 16 weeks with my DD my boxer (70lbs) jumped up on my belly and the next day I started to bleed. Of course it was a Sunday and the on call Dr just said I wasn't 22 weeks so they couldn't do anything and I would miscarry. By Monday morning the bleeding was period heavy and my OB got me in for an ultrasound and she saw a very small tear in the placenta. She said to take it easy for a few days but that the bleeding should turn to spotting for a few days. Everything turned out great and I have a healthy toddler!

I'm sorry you're going through this! I'll be thinking about you, keep us updated!
