Re: FTM Check In 3/14

  • How far along are you? 23 weeks! 6 months now :)

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in? Not new, but stronger baby kicks (you can see them ripple my stomach sometimes). Also more consistent baby kicks, I feel them on a schedule and every day. Having possible hemorrhoid issues? And leg cramps. But otherwise, doing well.

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? Next week I'll have my regular check up.

Rants/raves? SNOW. And the governments botched handling of it. And my husband having to go to work. And my horrible weekend. This whole month has kind of been a fiasco actually.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Not right now

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show? Love it or List it. I don't even know if it's a guilty pleasure, but I love it!

  • How far along are you? 23 weeks and change

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in? All has been quiet on the gallbladder front for which I am so thankful. Hopefully can hang in there another 4 months without surgery!

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? Saw both the surgeon to have a plan in place if another gallstone gets stuck, and the OB who is such a lovely reassuring person and made me feel much better. Fundal height measuring 26 weeks which surprised me because I don't have all that much of a bump - nobody at work has guessed I'm pregnant who I haven't already told.

Rants/raves? So happy about feeling baby kick! Sometimes when he's asleep I get worried and wish I could wake him up so I could feel him kick again! Finally stopped checking the Doppler now that I feel him every few hours.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? What are your thoughts on having a changing station in the bathroom instead of the baby's room? The rooms are nearby but I think there's enough space in the bathroom and seems easier for washing hands, cleaning up baby boy sprinkles etc plus there's a vent and a window for handling smells. Haven't seen anyone do this though so wondering if there's something obvious I'm missing about why not? Also, any formula brand recommendations? Neither my husband nor I drink milk other than in tea/coffee, although we do eat plenty of cheese/yogurt/ice cream, so maybe something low lactose?

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show? My 600-lb Life - shows real people struggling and there's almost always a positive real-life ending. I work in medicine and see a lot of not-happy endings so it's a break from reality to watch. I also love My Cat From Hell for similar reasons, and because I love cats but can't get one because of allergies in my husband's family!
  • How far along are you? 20w 3d

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in? Nope things are pretty stable - enjoying this "easy" phase while it lasts.

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? Nope

Rants/raves? Rave: I've been starting to spend time reading books on baby care etc, and so far I recommend Baby 411. It covers a lot of details on a wide range of topics without being boring (what to expect the first year was putting me to sleep). I'm interested in other book recommendations (babies, nursing, labor, etc) if you guys are also in a reading phase.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? See above about books.

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show? Pretty Little Liars. I'm not caught up on the current season, so no spoilers please if you also watch it. :)

@kerils not trying to flame or burst your bubble...but 23 weeks is far from 6 months pregnant. Even if you assume every month only has 4 weeks (which they don't), you don't hit 6 months until 25 weeks. Realistically 6 months is closer to 26 weeks.

    How far along are you?
    23+6. Tomorrow is Vday!!!

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in? Same back pain. I brought my heating pad in to work and have been using that on the lowest setting. Lumbar support seems to be the best thing for it. I need to invest in a belly support band.

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? Nope. None until 3/29.

Rants/raves? So ready for winter to be over.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? ETA: what does RLP feel like?

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show? Guilty pleasure? All the trashy reality TV (Bachelor, Teen Mom. I also still binge watch Say Yes to the Dress regularly)

  • @kerils UGH so sorry for all the stress you've had lately.  Hopefully the baby shower drama gets sorted out soon.

How far along are you? 21+1

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in? Not many changes.  I started having some sharp pains in my uterus yesterday.  Haven't felt them today so I'm hoping its nothing to be worried about.

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? Had an appointment with my new OB yesterday.  It went well.  I also got some more of the amnio results.  So far they haven't found any chromosomal abnormalities or viruses.  It will still be another 2 weeks before we get the last results.  I have a follow up growth scan with the MFM on Thursday.  Hopefully that will give us more direction on how to manage things going forward.

Rants/raves? Working from home today, so I can't complain!

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show? Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant.  DH makes fun of me so hard for liking those shows, but they just suck me in.  We don't have cable anymore so I haven't watched them lately.  Probably for the best haha.

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in? Still annoying having my pulse be so strong I can see my shirt moving with my heart valve pumps lol.

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? A/S last Friday and found out we're having a GIRL! So excited.  They couldn't get good images of the heart, so they are referring me to an MFM.  I have that appointment next Monday.

Rants/raves? All seems well for now.  :)

Questions for FTM, or STM+? None ATM.

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show? I have to agree with @SpongeWorthy I looooved Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant!

@Rae1 For me I usually get it when I've been sitting for a while or slumped over a bit.  When I go to stand I get super sharp pains in my hip bone area on either side.  It's like a cramp x 100 and I usually have to sit back down right away because I can't even stand upright when I get it.  It runs about six inches from my hip bone area upward and it totally sucks.

@kerils I love Love it or List It. My husband thinks the couples on the show (and most home improvement shows) are always awful because they demand so much, but I think they probably tell them to act that way.

@GreenBean I used to love PLL but I gave up on it when they did the flash forward.  Is it still good?? And regarding books, someone recommended to me "Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn: The Complete Guide" by Penny Simkin.  I'm still in the pregnancy part of it (and even read the parts I'm already past in this pregnancy) but so far I like it, gives a lot of info without being too preachy about anything. I tried to read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth to get a perspective about unmedicated/natural birth, but as a scientist and someone who works in a hospital and believes in modern medicine, I just couldn't get through it!

@Rae1 DH doesn't understand why I would still like Say Yes to the Dress after being done with the wedding.  I can't help it, I love to snark on dresses I don't like, and families that are ridiculous.  But every once in awhile there's a really touching story that really gets me.  It's usually on from like 5-7pm here, so that's been my go-to after work recently.

How far along are you? 21w1d

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in? Lots of gas and (maybe?) finally feeling movement!

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? Had my A/S follow-up scan last week on Friday.  Baby was sleeping face down and would NOT move so I have to go back again in 2 weeks, ugh.

Rants/raves? I would rant about the weather as we got 6 inches of snow yesterday but I've got nothing on  you northeast ladies!  Be safe!  I'll rave that I'm going to San Diego for work next week and I'm really looking forward to not wearing a winter coat!

Questions for FTM, or STM+?  How do you really know when you're feeling baby movements?

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show? My Big Fat Fabulous Life.  I know it's ridiculous and so manufactured when I watch it, but I just can't help it.
  • @Rae1 I think I've felt RLP a few times (but as a FTM, take this with a grain of salt).  For me it's a pain in my lower abdomen that builds up for a few seconds and then dies down in about 5 seconds.  The most distinctive thing about it is what triggers it - usually moving quickly, sneezing, or coughing.

@Chamomile If my bathroom was big enough I would 100% do it... actually I have a counter in there, so maybe I will do a changing station in my upstairs bathroom. My downstairs station is going to be right next to my landry room, in my kitchen, right next to the downstairs bathroom. If I don't do the upstairs bathroom, there will be a small changing station either in the pretend baby room, or in my bedroom. Not sure which yet.

ETA: I just posted too soon.

@Rae1 The internet could be wrong, but what I've looked at has said that 6 months is 23-27 weeks, and then 7 months is 28 weeks. So 28 weeks starts the third trimester.

  • @CPR79 When the movement first started, I wasn't sure if it as gas or baby and I liked to think it was baby either way.  Now that they're stronger, it feels completely different from gas, so you can look forward to that!  I knew it was baby when it became more consistent and always feels the same.  Like knocking or squirming.  The squirming is more uncomfortable to me than the flops and thumps because I can tell she's just changing how she's laying.  At my A/S this past Friday, she was face down too and it made me laugh thinking of her face smooshed up against my uterus.

  • @maybeitsmadeline @spongeworthy Yea I think I have started to experience that. It freaked me out the other day it happened as I was getting out of bed.

@Kerils you are "in your 6th month of pregnancy", but you are 5 months pregnant. Same as the first month of pregnancy. Weeks 0-4ish you are "in your first month", but you aren't "one month pregnant" until that month is complete, at 4ish weeks. Think about it like your birthday. From birth to 12 months, you are "in your first year," but you wouldn't say you are 1 year old. You aren't 1 until you hit that 12 month mark.

@kerils good to hear the idea sounds ok to you as well! It seems like a good solution to cleanup but I'll have to check whether the counter actually will hold a changing pad, or if a changing table really fits - don't have a sense how big they are.

I think @Rae1's point about six months is that if month 6 is 23-27 weeks like the whattoexpect page you posted, that means we're IN our sixth month, but the way age is counted, we're five months pregnant. Like if the baby is in their second year of life, you still say they're 1 year old. That's my take anyway! I'm saying I'm five months until about 26 weeks (which is when I'll have completed 6 x 30 days).

@SpongeWorthy so happy that the results coming in are good so far! Thinking of you as you wait to hear more  <3 *hugs*

@maybeitsmadeline congrats on the baby girl! My little guy was also face down during the A/S which seems so weird! The more I think about it, him being upside down seems just as weird and that's how they spend a lot of third tri!

@CPR79 I wasn't able to easily sort out gas vs. baby at 20ish weeks until I tried lying down on the couch with a snack immediately after work with a 1 mile walk home from the train. Something about the transition from exercise to laying down plus the food made him super active and then I knew for sure what it was!

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in?  None really, just lots of movement :)

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go?  Nope.

Rants/raves? Never thought I'd love being kicked so much  <3

MIL asked about a shower.  I was secretly hoping that she was going to have a small one for just DH's family but she wants to co-host with my mom.  Not that I mind this, but none of DH's family came to my bridal shower and I think if it were a smaller, more intimate setting, more of them would come (my family is large and loud and a little intimidating).  I guess I really shouldn't complain because she is at least thinking of DH and I's baby and not focusing all her energy on SIL (which is a pleasant surprise).

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show?  Intervention, My 600-lb Life, Big Bang Theory and I can recite Wizard of Oz from beginning to end.

@Rae1 I've had it a few time and it is usually brought on my a sudden movement, sneezing triggers it especially hard for me.  It usually dissipates quickly and there is no residual pain after.

@maybeitsmadeline  Sorry you have to have another scan, too.  The MFM that I saw was awesome (I had my scan done at their office because they did my NT scan) and really eased any worries that I had.  I have to have a fetal echo done in 2 weeks and I'm more looking forward to it than worried about it.

@CPR79 I think a lot of us are having to go back for second scans.  I would rather have 100 scans and know everything is A-OK then for the doctors to just assume it's fine.  I know it's a pain in the A, but better safe than sorry!  And I still watch SYTTD marathons on Saturdays while I'm cleaning.  DH will watch with me and we will both be befuddled at some dresses and what people pay for them!

  • @CPR79 PLL definitely isn't as good as before (which is why I'm not caught up) but I'm still enjoying it. I'll check out the book you recommended. Ina May's book was on my list, so I appreciate your thoughts on it. I'm in the "modern medicine is great, give me the drugs" camp, and my impression from reviews is that the book takes a very different perspective (which might be a good thing for me).

@Chamomile Thank you!  We're excited to finally be able to use the right pronoun! I was also thinking the same thing!  It's weird thinking they're upside down for that long... unless they're breech I guess.  Those babies want to stick it to the man.  :D

Also +1 on this (bold)!  After walking a lot or being active and then sitting down or if I have a snack it's like a dance party.  She gets super active when I'm eating (must love food like her mother).  LOL.

Any new symptoms or changes since last check? Braxton Hicks have started up. No pain or anything-just hardening/tightening of my uterus. I wonder what baby feels...

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go?  Nope.

    Rants/raves?

I know I just need to get used to SPD since it's not going anywhere until after delivery according to my OB, but I HATE it. It's getting easier to manage by working from home a couple days a week and avoiding a lot of movement. But now I just worry about excess weight gain because my appetite is still huge.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Nope.

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show?  If My Girl comes on I HAVE to sit and finish the whole thing. And even though I've seen it 10,000 times, I still bawl every single time. The same goes for Homeward Bound.
  • How far along are you? 23w3d

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in? The leg cramps have started at weird times, even though I eat lots of food with potassium.

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? I had a BP check at my OB last Friday. I think they'll still watch my BP, even though it was very normal this time.

Rants/raves? Would you include your MIL in the invitation list for a baby shower if she would just stress you out? She was invited to my bridal shower (because I wanted to include her) and she did nothing but complain and then brought up the fact that she thought people were looking at her funny three years later because she was single. I am very torn about this...I am generally a nice person, but she really stresses me out.

I love the baby kicks, but they aren't so much fun when they make you jump because they're so hard. LOL.

Hip pain, figured out that I need more cushion between my knees when I sleep.  Also have occasional diarrhea.  Eating bananas to try and firm stuff up.

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go?
I have an anterior placenta which explains why I'm not feeling kicks yet.  Baby's heart rate is good.  Can't handle iron supplements so am trying via food.  Dr will test for anemia and gestational diabetes in 3 weeks.

    Rants/raves?
My upstairs neighbors.  There's a 12 year old boy with some issues who refuses to go to school every morning.  I wake up to him and his mom scream at each other for 20 minutes every morning.  We've talked about noise but I'm not sure there's much she can do.  Maybe once the baby is here, the baby will be louder?  Revenge!

Any new symptoms or changes since last check in?  Waking up anywhere from 3 - 4 times a night at least one of those times not being able to fall back asleep for a minimum of an hour.  It's terribly exhausting and annoying.  I know that's what life is going to be like soon, but I still expected to be able to sleep through the night a few times a week while pregnant haha!

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go? None

Rants/raves?  Not that I can think of right now.  I'm way too busy at work to think.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? See above lol!

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show?  I really don't watch a lot of TV anymore.  I'd have to say that Hunger Games has easily become my new favourite series.  I'm usually a reader and avoid book related movies like the plague but I've never read the books and yet LOVE the movies.  I'm not usually into mainstream stuff like that but I guess there's just something about it haha!  I am also a sucker for all kinds of documentaries and food series (Chef's Table, The Layover etc.)

  • @stokesm21 I'm right there with ya on the midnight insomnia.  4am and wide awake until at least 5/5:15 and the alarm goes off at 6.  Ugh.
+1 to this sadly.  I used to sleep so well, too.  It was like my super power haha.

Just more of the same - more headaches, more back pain, more congestion.
Any appointments since last check in? How did it go?
Routine midwife appointment this morning, all looks good.
    Rants/raves?
I just wish I felt him move more. I know I'll be annoyed by kicks at some point, but I've stopped reading the movement thread because it makes me sad.

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show?
I take "guilty pleasure" to mean "I am embarrassed I watch this" and really, I'm not at all. We don't have Bravo anymore, but when we did I watched the Housewives with aplomb. My husband 's favorite was NJ because he loved to hate the husbands.

Feeling movement! Nothing too big, but it's there!! Having trouble with irritated/dry/flaky skin between and under my breasts. No itchiness, just dryness.

Had an appt today, just a check in. OB is at a new medical office now. Baby boy's HB was mid 140s. Heard lots of noises that signified movement on the Doppler. Now I get to prep for my glucose screening. I got to bring the sugary drink home with me. I just have to wait to take it lol.

    Rants/raves?
We FINALLY revealed to everyone that we are having a boy. DH and I wanted to get our parents together and do a little reveal with them, but everyone's work schedules never lined up. Then yesterday was FIL bday and everyone was available! So we did it as his bday present. So stoked and now people can stop badgering me! Haha

Did anyone feel like their older step/child(ren) were less than enthusiastic to find out what the baby was? When we revealed that DSS (8yrs) was having a baby brother, he seemed to kinda clam up. I know he is excited to have a baby sibling because it's all he would talk about, but I think finding out the baby is a boy may have shocked him...and that it may have upset him?

I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into it. I didn't get a chance to talk to him after the reveal because DH had to drop him off to his mother's house right after...but who knows what she's saying to him. She had the audacity to tell me weeks ago that she is telling DSS to prepare to not be the center of attention and to come second when the baby comes...I always reassure him that he is important and he is going to be my big helper. I try to involve him with baby stuff when we can and get him excited.

I was all into The Vampire Diaries for a while but kinda lost interest at the end of season 6. Now I'm kinda obsessed with The Originals. Really anything with vampires haha (I will admit that I love the Twilight movies haha)

I'm a FTM who hasn't posted in months and is trying to break out of lurkerdom!

Not sure if I ever checked in on the FTM thread... I had terrible nausea for months until I got over myself and asked for diclegis. Since then symptoms have been much more bearable!

Any appointments since last check in? How did it go?
AS was a couple weeks ago and everything looked good. We are waiting to find out the sex, though!

    Rants/raves?
I'm trying to last through this cold snap without buying a new coat but they're so tight! Husband makes fun of me when I ask him to put things in his coat pockets because mine are too tight :(

Are there any secret mom sites for good secondhand baby stuff? I've been checking eBay, Craigslist and consignment stores and have crossed some things off our list.

GTKY: What's your guilty pleasure movie or TV show?
I also love Teen Mom, but only the original four! I used to watch Vampire Diaries and don't even know where I left off. Is it still running? Once it's over I might binge all the episodes.
  • @rjoys8 The Vampire Diaries just had its final episode. I think they are doing a full rerun of this season right now. I'm waiting until this season goes on Netflix.
  • @rjoys8 Welcome!  I don't know of any secret secondhand sites, but we do have a PSA Steals and Deals thread that you should definitely check out.

  • @rjoys8 Welcome!  Diclegis was a game changer for me too.  I'm glad you're feeling better.

  • @rjoys8 also try local yard sale Facebook groups. I've seen a ton of baby stuff on ours!
