Streptococcus agalactiae (GBS) :(

edited March 2017 in November 2017 Moms
They just found this in my urine culture and I'm reading lots of scary stuff about it, anyone experience this?  Did they put you on antibiotics?  I got the test result, but the doctor hasn't commented on it or called me yet so I doubt they've seen it yet.

  • I tested positive in first tri with my last pregnancy. It's really no big deal if it's treated. They just give you a couple rounds of iv antibiotics when you're in labor.
It is important to take it seriously and get those antibiotics though. Baby can get very sick if you don't.
But nothing to worry about until you're in labor.

  • @heatherdubrow Thanks!!! Love this group, keeps me from freaking out about stuff. I probably shouldn't be looking at my test results this late at night before a doctor sees it.

  • Definitely ^^WSS. Google is always scary! They found it in mine urine in my 2nd trimester (with my first pregnancy) when testing for a UTI. So later on they never retested just went ahead and treated me like I had it still. I'm allergic to 'cillins so they gave me some other IV antibiotics during labor! I wouldn't let it stress you too much!
  • GBS can actually come and go and should check for it closer to the baby being term. A round of IV  medication is given during labor before actually pushing LO out. I've had it with both my deliveries. I read the note from my last one and it said I received 3 rounds of antibiotics and I remember when that was does I was given the all clear.
  • It's also good to note that GBS may just be part of your normal flora. Nothing to worry about.
  • I didn't realize some docs test so early. I thought you were supposed to be tested late in pregnancy around labor. I had it last pregnancy and they didn't even get four hours of antibiotics in me and it was all fine. I wouldn't worry about it at all.
