Nursing clothes

Any recommendations? I'm having a hard time finding any place with a decent selection.

I'm envisioning a wardrobe of mostly nursing tanks (I don't really care about the lack of support since I'll mostly just be around the house for the first while) and some sort of sweater/zip-up/cardigan thing over top of them. I live in New England so it'll be in the 50s/60s. But when I go back to work in June I'll need more presentable clothing (and don't want to practically have to get undressed to pump).

I ordered some nursing bras and a couple of cheap zip-up hoodies so far.

What worked best for me both times was nursing tanks and easy access shirts (not nursing brands). So henleys, button downs, cowl necks with stretch, v necks with stretch. At home I'd pull the neck down or unbutton it, when out I pulled the top layer up to nurse.

i loved the undercover mama tanks and wore them daily the whole time I nursed so my sides and tummy remained covered.

Wrap dresses work well for special occasions.

I love the cotton nursing tanks from h&m as well as the bamboo naked nursing tanks to wear under your regular tops. My favourite bras are my Cake cotton candy nursing bras. Lots of support but still stretchy and comfy.

I basically use everything as a nursing top, haha. I just put a nursing tank underneath and then lift up the shirt. The tank still keeps me covered and the kid still has access. Early on, though, I live in tanks at home and button down shirts. I won't be going out too much until the baby is a little older and I am not hurting from delivery! I got two nightgowns from Target (not nursing, just tanks) for $13 each that, I think, can double as dresses. I also picked up pajamas with shorts and a button up shirt that I can wear at night. I have 3 other nursing nightgowns (2 of which can double as dresses) and then some shirts.

I'd love to know what people are doing as well, thanks for starting @catem07! So far I have two nursing tanks from Target, several nursing bras that I've been also using as sleep bras, and one nursing nightgown that I picked up this weekend from a maternity/children's consignment store. They had a bunch of nursing tanks also so once I'm postpartum I'll go back and pick up a few more.

Because of hormone fluctuations after birth I get crazy hot flashes, so I wanted things to stay cool in.

@ebloom3 I got the same nightgown from target, and I LOVE it. It's so comfortable and actually has a surprising amount of support on top.

I bought a few new nursing bras. I am on the bra struggle bus right now. Everything hurts my rib cage. It sucks.

I have also found that V neck dresses are great. I have two from my previous pregnancies that I like. In terms of pants and shirts, I am pretty sure I will live in leggings and yoga pants (and maternity pants) until I get back to pre-pregnancy weight. Shirts-wise, I try to wear button downs or shirts with nursing tanks underneath. I got a top from Motherhood Maternity that can be worn over a tank as an open cardigan or closes as more of a wrap. It's made as a nursing top.

@SDSwenson I was 38G after DD was born and feel your pain. I found the Bravado bras to provide the best support. I believe the style I chose was Allure? They had great videos for figuring out sizing online that were really helpful.

Fellow lover of the Undercover Mama tanks! I found I craved support even in those first few days postpartum and nursing tanks never provided enough so wearing my nursing bras with the UM tanks were a godsend. I loved that they were long and had a snug fit around the middle that felt great when everything was still feeling really loose on the inside. They wash really well too. I only had to replace them one time in over 15 months of nursing with daily wear.

A big thank you to all of you who suggested the Kindred Bravely bras. My first one arrived today and thank goodness I am on Spring Break this week because I have no plans to take it off anytime soon!

Me and my tiny boobs live in nursing tanks. It will be summer in Phoenix so I won't wear much else most of the time. Cardigans or sweater/shrug items work well to dress them up or add a layer. I did invest in two nursing flap t shirts this time from H&M. Hopefully I love them.

I just had cheapie tank tops from Old Navy that I wore under everything. so I could pull my regular shirt up and be covered. The tanks are thin enough that I could yank them down under my boob no problem. I have never kicked the habit of wearing 2 layers, actually. I am hoping to get a few more convenient nursing tops this time around though.

@cafedisco that's what I have so far as well... some comfy nursing bras and cheap regular tanks that pull down easily. I stocked up on $3 Camis from H&M to use for nursing. I almost always wear two layers like that anyway because I like the length of a cami underneath. But I am curious about the undercover mama and may order one or two of those for variety.

My boobs never really got big because my milk never really showed up (32 Bish was my max), and it was summer time, so I just lived in the Target nursing tanks and a cardigan if it got cold. I'm holding back on investing in anything else right now because I am afraid of spending a bunch of money on things just to have another nursing disaster like last time, so I'm bookmarking all of your suggestions to check out in a few weeks! Thanks ladies!
