Infertility

Introduction TTC 3 Years

Hi everyone! I am39 years old and was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis in 2013. For many years, I had issues with pain, both during and outside of my period, but it took several surgeries to figure out the cause of my pain. I've had my appendix and portions of two different sections of my colon removed due to endometriosis. After being diagnosed, I immediately started trying to conceive with no luck. Every doctor I had seen told me to do IVF, but I refused to that without ever trying naturally. Im now starting my first IVF cycle in Cyprus which will be a tandem IVF cycle. For those who don't know, tandem IVF is where both you and an egg donor start stimming at the same time and the doctors regulate the meds so that you both ovulate at the same time. My fiancé's sperm will be injected into all eggs and after 5 days we'll choose which embryos to transfer. This is not offered in the US so I liked into IVF abroad. The RE I had seen in the US suggested donor eggs from the beginning due to the endo, my age and low AMH (0.1), but there's no way I'm not going to try my own eggs.

I've just arrived in Cyprus yesterday and hoping to start stimming today. I've looked at threads for tips on TTC, but have never posted anything. I figured it would be nice to chat with other women going through this process at the same time to swap stories. Good luck and baby dust to us all!

SN: I found this clinic through a friend I met on an endometriosis forum who lives near me. We were both looking for endo specialists to have surgery with. She went to a doctor in NYC and since she had a few failed IVF cycles, they recommended an egg donor cycle. Her doctor said that this clinic is great and much less expensive than the US. TRIGGER WARNING - my friend just had twins after her cycle here. So I'm excited and hopeful.

  • Hi and welcome to the board! There are awesome ladies here who have some much knowledge and great advice.

I have not heard of tandem IVF. That is interesting, but I like the idea. Do they tell you which eggs they transfer (dumb question)?

Does endometriosis effect egg quality? I also had stage 4 endo (cleared with surgery and lupron), but my RE never mentioned it effecting my chance of success with IVF so curious what you've heard.

Enjoy your time in Cyprus. Seems like a great place to try and relax while going through the stress of infertility.

  • Hi!  I didn't know about the tandem IVF procedure w/ a donor, interesting.

I am starting stim meds in about a week, for my first attempt at all of this.

I also have endo (just stage 3, had surgery and lupron depot and now starting IVF) so am also curious about what you have heard about endo affecting IVF success rates. Anything my doctors say about endometriosis is so wishy washy and vague....
