March 2017 Moms

Tell me your labor story!

Good morning March mommas!

For those of you who have given birth already or are STMs I want to know your story! :)

What week did you start active labor?
Did it start with contractions or did your water break?
How did you feel the day your active labor started (before it started) ... were you energetic, tired, sick?
Were you induced?
Did you try any 'natural' ways to start active labor?
Tell me your story... curious FTM :)

Re: Tell me your labor story!

  • For my first DD I woke up when I was 38+6 and felt a huge gush of water. I felt normal otherwise. No contractions at all so they started me on Oxytocin which got things going but very slowly. I used the yoga ball frequently prior to my water breaking hoping it would help get my body ready for labour and I used it during labour, which was amazing! I laboured for about 24 hours before they considered it to be active for a total of 2 hours. I didn't try any natural ways to try and start labour, I didn't really know any better and just kind of went with it.
  • Also awaiting the birth of #2, but with my first I was almost a week past due and felt like my water was leaking, but I wasn't sure, so went to the beach and out for pizza and then decided it might be worth getting checked out. Hospital confirmed it had broken and started me on pit around midnight. Got painful around 4am and got an Epi and fell asleep. Woke up around 9:30 and was at 10. I pushed for freaking ever (like prob 2+ hours) and finally DD arrived. Had second degree tearing and stitches, but recovery was not bad at all as long as I kept up with the Motrin.

  • with DS I was 41 weeks 1 day. I was miserable. Haha I had been in what I would consider "early labour" for days and by the time I got to the hospital for my induction I was 5 cms dialated.  Doc started me on a low dose of pitocin, and broke my waters and my contractions started coupling (I was contracting with less then a minute between) so they turned off the pitocin, I received the epidural. I was in active labour for 6 hours and I pushed for about 40 minutes.  I had 3rd degree tears. but all in all, I consider it a good and positive experience.  I'm 38wk 5d today and I'm just praying this baby doesn't take his/her time like their brother.
  • @vino831 so when you say you felt tightening on your way home.. was it painful at that point? I'm 39 weeks on Wednesday and today I've felt tightening and my stomach gets real hard on and off all day but nothing painful... but I've never experienced it this much. I'm hoping it means something...
  • jadkins17 it was not painful. It was just pressure until later in the night.  FX mama!
  • At my 38 week checkup, the dr said that I would likely go past my due date based on lack of changes with my cervix. I was unhappy with that news, and we had sex that night to try and help things. The next day, I started feeling different, like things were progressing, and that night lost my mucous plug. At 3am, I woke up and started having regular contractions. DH took me to the dr office the next morning and had bloody show there. She confirmed that I was in early labor and encouraged me to walk around at home or at the mall until I felt ready to go to the hospital. We went to Marshalls, and my water broke there. I had a ton of water and it made a huge mess. I was really thankful that I had packed a trash bag and towel in my bag, because my water never stopped coming out, up through the end of labor. Got to the hospital, labored for several hours, at 5 cm got an epidural. Then got pitocin. Finally got to 10cm, pushed for 2 hours and was then told that I have a narrow pelvic arch and that baby was not fitting and that part of his head was starting to swell from me trying to push him out, so we ended up with a C section. He was born at 3:48am.
