My friend just called me because she's sending out the invitations tomorrow. She opted to put a very cute poem on the invitation wishing people to get inexpensive baby books and writing their well-wishes inside the cover instead of getting baby a card.
I had never heard of this before...I wish I could find the poem for you....she read it to me and I started getting weepy.....damn hormones=)
Just thought I'd share if you haven't heard of it before.
Re: To those who haven't had a shower yet
This is the one my SIL is using:
Although cards are nice, they're read once or twice, maybe three or four times at best, a book is a treasure, forever and forever, so instead of a card, to be put aside, please give the little baby, a book with your name inside, it will be read to our little tyke, before bed each night, and we will thank you, forever and forever!

okay I found it!
Although cards are nice with their sentiment
and prayer,
They're read once or twice then tucked away
with care.
A book is a treasure, words and pictures unite
Read over and over to teach and delight.
So instead of a card for Baby and
mother,
Please give a child's book with your thoughts in the cover.
Your book will be cherished; God will watch from above,
When it's read they will remember your
kindness and love.
I loved this this idea when I first heard of it especially because I am a Reading/Language Arts teacher. This idea is great to start the baby library.
I just copied and pasted this idea into an email to my mom...
LOVE THE IDEA!!!?
i LOVE this idea too! a friend had it at her shower and she got so may great books that brought back memories
the only downside is that if there are repeats - the books are written in, but that is not going to be too many
soooo cute, and i am writing down the poem- thanks!!
