Anyone not had an appointment yet?

I am 12 +2 as of today and have not had a prenatal appointment yet due to insurance shenanigans that are driving me crazy. Has anyone else not had a prenatal appointment until 2nd trimester? Trying to put my mind at ease a bit :/

Re: Anyone not had an appointment yet?

  • One of my friends couldn't get into her OB until she was around 12 weeks. Everything was fine. As long as you are taking your prenatals and staying away from alcohol, drugs, etc, it should be fine. I'm assuming you're not AMA or high risk?

  • @mrsmgsee thank you! Nope I'm 28 and great health :) That makes me feel a lot better!
  • I have only had my confirmation ultrasound, but no "official" appointment yet.  My first one is next week, I will be 12w on the button.  There are a lot of screenings that come out of that appointment through a blood panel and your urine sample.  My guess is most people have these come back very normal.  In my first pregnancy, my blood work showed a thyroid issue (no previous history of thyroid problems, and none since), so I could get that addressed right away.  My second pregnancy screens were normal.  So...I mean, stats are probably on your side, but if there was a way to get your screenings done, I would do it.

  • @SummerGirl21 thanks. I have a tour of a birthing center this afternoon and will Ben asking her about some options. Assuming the military gets their act together I should have insurance on April 1, so I'm hoping to do just the basics until then. The midwife would at least give me a cash cost. The doctors office gave me a base price and told me they would just bill me for the rest. Not actually helpful at all lol
  • Many of my family members had to deal with insurance shenanigans too and didn't make it to the OB until their 15th week. The babies are totally fine.
  • @mrsjesss in the country I live, you generally don't get an ultrasound OR heart beat check until the 17-20 week anatomy scan. The only appointment you have as long as you're low risk is a huge questionnaire about drugs, alcohol, domestic violence, family history and then blood work and blood sugar testing. No check on the baby at all.

I got  lucky and got an 8 week u/s with a gyno because I ended up going to the midwives too early at 4 weeks and they sent me to the gyno who had an u/s machine and was compassionate to my post-loss nerves, but the midwives won't check the baby until the anatomy scan (all pregnancy care goes through midwives here, and I asked at my appointment if they could check to make sure the baby was doing ok, and they were like, no, not until the a/s).

It's annoying and a bit nerve wracking at times to not have any check, I do get that, but a whole country is doing it and a friend sent me an article (after I was complaining about having to go 10 weeks between checking on the baby) about how this country has some of the lowest rates for premature births and infant/fetal loss.

  • I have had my midwife appointment and my OB/GYN appointment but not a scan yet, they have me scheduled for an ultrasound when I am 13 weeks pregnant! I am 12 weeks tmr!
  • We had an insurance fiasco with my first baby back in 2010. I didn't see my OB until 22 weeks. It was awful. I saw the pregnancy help center at 11 weeks and they did the sonogram so we could see our baby. And I went to a low income women's medical facility and had them do my blood work as a cash pay patient.  Otherwise, I took my OTC prenatal and harassed the insurance office daily. They did end up back paying my bloodwork.
