Books about babies?

I know lots of us are readers - has anyone read books you liked on newborn care or parenting styles? Anything recommended to you that you plan to read?

  • I thought The Wonder Weeks was a helpful app (that's also a book). Happiest Baby on the Block was pretty useful as well.

  • I really like Peaceful Parent Happy Baby (obviously a gentle parenting book). I also liked the Dr. Sears breastfeeding and baby books (the other ones I only found somewhat helpful). I hated the baby version of the What to Expect book.

  • Lurking from April. I'm reading the Happiest Baby on the Block right now. My colleague who had a baby in early December gave it to me.

  • I've been reading the Mayo Clinic Baby's First Year...I like it so far. I used their pregnancy book and it had a lot of good information.
  • I have zero real-life experience but I've read Babywise and Baby Whisperer and plan to pull aspects I like from both. Sister had great success with Happiest Baby on the Block with her most recent baby too.

  • We practice the whole peaceful parenting thing and the website,https://www.ahaparenting.com/ has been an awesome resource for us. Lots of great blog posts.
  • Happiest baby on the block saved me in the early weeks!
  • I'm usually someone who devours books, but all through this pregnancy I have not read one single book. DH and I watched Happiest Baby on the Block through Amazon Prime, it wasn't on Netflix. The video is SUPER dated but seeing the advice in action was really great. It's a quick watch if you don't have time to read the book or want something more visual. That said, I'm a FTM and haven't had my baby yet so haven't put anything to practice.
  • @jenny0228 that's neat! I'll watch that during nap time today!
  • Watched HAPPIEST BABY movie with DH, great stuff! Anyone know if the book is basically the same content, or if there's additional info in it worth reading?

I started reading the book before watching it, and it's basically the same. There is more background info on the subject matter, what other cultures do, and other examples - in my opinion if you don't already own the book and watched the video, you won't learn much new technique in the book. I didn't read the whole thing, but skimming through I think the video covered it.

I also just got the Happiest Baby Guide to Sleep (same author) and so far it seems pretty good and useful.
  • Not book form//and has been mentioned before--> but  kellymom.com was one of my favorite resources after having my DD1. Especially for breast feeding! But they also have parenting articles on other things (sleep, growth/development)

I also found AskDrSears(.com) was a site that I found lots of helpful answers/aligned with my choice of parenting style.

    I was a big reader--but once I had a baby a quick internet sight/google was my best friend ;)
