Frozen Transfer Questions

Hello

I have a couple of questions about the frozen transfer process.

I had my egg retrieval yesterday, and prior to this they suspected that I had over stimulated, so the cycle would be a freeze all.

We ended up with 3 mature eggs, in which all fertilised with ICSI (yay). We are now hoping that at least one of these little embies will continue to develop properly over the next few days.

The nurse advised this morning that we can probably do a frozen transfer in around 2 weeks if all goes to plan. I will have to be on medications prior to the transfer, because without assistance, my body just stays in the follicular phase.

This is where I am confused, from what I have read most people have to wait a cycle before they can do a medicated frozen transfer. Has anybody done a medicated cycle 2 weeks from your egg retrieval? If so, what was your protocol?

Last cycle (5 weeks ago), I didn't end up with any eggs at retrieval (I didn't respond to the trigger, so the eggs weren't mature enough to be retrieved) and my body recovered very quickly, so hopefully it will again this time.

I know my clinic will give me this information if/when the time comes, but of course I am curious of how it will all work in the mean time! I also have low estrogen levels, so I am hoping I will be given sufficient assistance in this regard as well.

Any responses are greatly appreciated :)

Good luck to everybody x

Re: Frozen Transfer Questions

  • Maybe they meant that within 2 weeks you could start preparations for the FET cycle?

When I did the FET cycle I was on BCP and then was on about 4 weeks of Lupron shots, followed by 5 days of PIO shots and then the transfer.

    Medicated FET takes time....

    hope this helps  :)

  • @Prudence9 Thank you!

You are probably right, or maybe she thought we were doing a natural FET.

Thanks so much for the info and all the best x
  • Knottie, glad you ask this question. I have the same one, as I also don't cycle on my own with very little estrogen spikes.

Also, I know that some people manage to do the "natural" cycle for transfer (when the lining grows without any extra supplemental hormones). I wonder what's the protocol is if there is none.

  • @FuzzyDustYes I am very confused too! My clinic does allow back to back IVF cycles if everything has quietened down (after my last failed IVF cycle I only had to wait a week before I started BCP again), but I think she must be thinking it would be a natural FET cycle. I will ask on Monday and keep you posted!
  • Knottie, did you have to do a "suppression" before your IVF with BCP? Since I don't cycle, my RE tested that I'm in a perpetual suppressed state at any time, so I could pick pretty much any day on the calendar to start the IVF stims. My assumption that it also means that I can pick any day to start taking supplemental estrogen to prep the lining for transfer.
Good luck with your Monday appointment, and keep us posted on how the embryos are doing! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and rooting for them!

  • @FuzzyDust Yes, I also had a blood test to confirm I was in a surpressed state, and also a scan to make sure that everything looked all settled :)

Thanks so much, thinking of you also in your wait xxx
  • @Knottie34543584
i am in the middle of a natural fet cycle after ohss. My clinic was open to doing an fet the very next cycle after ohss, but i was really sick and not recovered. I sat out one cycle to get my body more normalized. I'm not waiting to ovulate. Then I'll trigger and start taking progesterone. It's also possible I'll get estrogen if my lining isn't up to par. My guess is that if you are generally not ovulating naturally there's no need to wait for your hormone levels to "normalize". If you don't cycle naturally maybe they expect your ohss to recede quicker. Personally my ohss was so bad I had to take cabergoline and I absolutely didn't feel good about transferring the next cycle.  Just make sure you feel good. My doc told me I made the right call putting it off one month. If you feel good, go for it. Fingers crossed for you!

  • @dragonette505, I also did cabergoline to help with ohss recovery - took my last one last night. Well, not sure if 'took' is the right term for suppositories  :D

Good luck with the upcoming FET!
