How are you ladies doing, those with babies still in NICU and those who have been released? Vent your frustrations, ask your questions, share your experiences.
We're one week and one day in the NICU. DH had to go back to work, so I'm on my own until they come home when he takes the rest of his leave. It's really hard to be able to visit them when I'm not allowed to drive. I was able to stay last night in the nicu parent room, but have to wait another half hour to see if I can stay again tonight. If not I'll have to wait until this evening when my parents can drive up and get me.

@AandDM2014 Not being able to drive after the c-section might be my least favorite part. I feel so useless. Especially before A got discharged I hated not being able to drive back and forth to the hospital.
My only complaint right now is that A is slow to put on weight. He only lost 2 oz after birth, and was sitting there on Saturday before we left, but hasn't gained any more as of today when we went for a well-check. We're formula feeding, so I know he's getting 50-60ml every 3 hours. Maybe a combo of gaining weight and losing what water weight he had left from the hospital?

I am able to stay at the hospital again tonight and will be going home tomorrow. I'm not sure why I can't drive, but if it's because of the opioid they gave me I'm trying not to take it anymore. The pain isn't bad enough to need it. I have a "nicu class" today at 3 to learn all about having a baby in the nicu........ so weird, especially since we've been here over a week already!

my baby in the past day or so has really been craving me to hold him constantly, not that I don't want to hold him, but today he had to nap on me, so i couldn't nap. I'm wondering if he is trying to make up for lost time at the nicu.
@datalover13@AandDM2014 I stopped taking the norco on day 7 and I started driving on day 11.
I did notice that driving aggravates my incision, and still does (we're 3 1/2 weeks out now And I still notice that bumpy roads are super aggravating.
I'm not suggesting that you ignore Doctor's orders, but I know a number of c Section mom's that chose to stop the narcotic painkillers and drive before 2 weeks were up. I would, however, suggest that you are super vigilant about not lifting a lot.
@AandDM2014 if you're still staying at the hospital can you ask one of your doctors what they think about the driving?
jumping in on this thread - my hospital said one week and then I could drive as long as I wasn't on the opioids anymore. I stopped taking them at one week and was driving short distances just fine. I think every hospital is different - with DS1 I delivered at a different hospital and was told 2 weeks before I could drive.
Feel a bit of a dummy now. I just read that during a growth spurt baby will be more clingy. Baby has been eating a lot, is at the right age for growth spurt, i think the clinginess contributes to his growth spurt
@direwolfmini I've reduced my intake of Norco to just one at bedtime. I seem to be able to get through the day without any, but It helps me get to sleep at night to take one, especially since my ibuprofen is taken at 6 and midnight. I have a feeling I'm going to be driving a day before 2 weeks, but even when I'm just riding in the car it can bother my incision a bit, so I'm not super worried about that. And I'm not staying at the hospital anymore. I left this afternoon.
@korpisar My hospital is a minimum of 45 minutes away, usually more.
So we had a rough day yesterday. All three needed to repeat their newborn screens. I was only there for Clementines, but I can imagine that the other two had it worse because they didn't have mama to soothe them. She was definitely not happy, and it made me tear up a bit. Then Isaac pulled out his NG tube 3 times. I wasn't there when it was put back in the first two times, but was for the second one, and wow was it just awful! And right after she shoved it back in, she decided it was a good time to change all of his monitors, which were still stuck to his skin. It broke my heart listening to him scream/cry! I had to hold him right after to try and comfort us both.
But on the plus side Isaac and Edith are of weight to go home, and Clementine is 140 grams away from being big enough. Now they just have to take full feeds of 40 mLs by mouth for a few days and they can come home! I'm so looking forward to the day all three are home with us!
