Baby girl has been measuring big (not so big they are saying its due to the GD but still...) I'm just basically frustrated since my sugars have all been in line with where they should be so it just feels like it's so out of my control. Here's to hoping this weeks measurements (just a guideline) are a bit more in line with where she should be - I'm no where near ready to have her in 2 weeks (which is an option if she keeps growing at the rate she's been growing). DH and I are frantically trying to prep, which we should've been doing all along but 2nd kid and all... aka lazy parenting...
I learned this weekend that when you bake sweet potatoes, it shoots up the sugar content significantly. I had a reading of 159 after eating steak, broccoli, and 1/2 cup baked sweet potato
I have a growth scan today so we'll see how the little lady is doing
My numbers are ridiculously all over the place despite diet and medication. There's no real consistency and it's so frustrating. The exact same meal today and yesterday- 102 today and 184 yesterday. I'm so annoyed. And discouraged. We have a growth ultrasound today so fingers crossed she's doing well in there.
@dam0ne4 I had no idea about that! I would've thought you would've been pretty safe with that meal - crazy!
@Mama5181 hope the ultrasound goes well! That's crazy about your numbers but I do remember with DS hitting 36 weeks and things just go a little off the charts.
So today was interesting. I had a dentist appointment and I was overdue for a cleaning because I was so sick all winter. My teeth are the best they've ever been and my gums have improved since I was last there in September. Being severely pregnant they should be terrible right now. I'm wondering how much the GD diet has to do with it. Like I eat an apple almost every day, so maybe it's toughening up my gums? Either way, I like it!
Any kind of Asian food shoots my numbers up. I'm thankful because everything has been well managed with diet. This GD thing hasn't been too bad, but I'm ready for pizza and pasta and donuts after baby is born!
Had my 36 week visit today. My GD battle continues and they've finally decided I need insulin. I feel so defeated. I just want to cry. I have tried so hard and wanted to avoid this so bad. So now that's 4 finger sticks a day and 4 shots of insulin everyday. That's 168 sticks for 3 weeks.
@kcasset I always say I could probably bleed peanut butter these days. I remember with DS I didn't touch peanut butter for weeks after he was born. I'm feeling it'll be the same with this one. I was happy to find that there is a diet cranberry/pineapple juice that basically has no carbs/sugar that I did fine with numbers wise. I've been craving fruit juice so this made this mama happy!

Tell me all about it!!! I've been googling diet juices to find one that I liked with no success.
If I never eat another egg after this baby is born I will be a happy, happy camper!
With that said I finally tried Fairlife milk and was able to have a bowl of cereal (cup of Kix) with a protein shake for breakfast and my bs after 2 hours was 93!!! #WIN
FYI, blood sugars are apparently A TOTAL CRAP SHOOT. I have been eating horribly this week due to a really, really hectic schedule and I've had the best numbers I've had since the diagnosis. I'm honestly furious.
Pity party for one - I broke the rules and ate some unhealthy carbs with breakfast (brownie muffins) with my eggs. I had a 93 reading after 2 hours, but holy crap, I had horrible horrible reflux from it! Dear chocolate, I love you, please don't hurt me!!!
Advice... Going to see Endocrinologist tomorrow. GD was controlled OK by diet. Over last week or so, not controlled well at all. I'll be 37 weeks in 2 days. I originally had a c section scheduled for 37+1 for placenta previa but that's moved and is cancelled. In my opinion if it was OK to schedule c section at 37+1 for previa, doesn't it make more sense to possible induce say over the next week sometime because my sugars are out of control rather than go and start insulin? Last growth scan was at 32 weeks and baby was 5lb. My OB is sending me next week for another. My other 2 babies were 8.5lb born at 39 weeks, no GD with either and had shoulder dystocia with one of them (really scary) so I'm already high risk of that happening again.
My magic protein to go with any snack I have to keep my sugar numbers low is salami. Yes that's right. So I literally have a good scoop of vanilla peanut butter ice cream, 1.5 cups of popcorn and 2 slices of salami at night. My doctor gagged when I told her, but hey whatever works right!
I'm so jealous of all you 2 hour testers. My normal Endo requires I test 1 hr after meals and is super strict about numbers.. seriously 1 point over I get a guilt trip. And my meter reads higher than every other meter I've tried (I've compared it multiple times and mines always the highest reading) I've barely had any "high" readings at 1 hour by 2 I don't even come close to being high.
@AmandaMariahKingston there are other choices than just straight to insulin. Usually insulin is the last resort to controlling it. Have you kept a food diary? If not, you might want to start. It might be able to help pinpoint certain foods that you tend to spike after.
