I'm a total weirdo planner. I already have 2 cribs, 1 dresser with another on its way. Plus my in-laws are helping me with painting an organizing and they are going on like a month long vacation in april so I want to get as much done as possible before they leave.
Not yet, but soon. We're setting up our registry in 2 weeks. My parents are going to buy one of our big items. I'm waiting to see what they buy before we buy our other big items.
Yes - babies r' us was having a 15% off one nursery furniture item sale so we bought a crib (hadn't researched before so it prompted us to do so). Then they were doing 20% off one nursery furniture item so we bought the matching dresser. We had them shipped to the store so picking them up this weekend when we go to one of their registry events. I don't know when the right time to buy is, though. For strollers/carseat/travel system, I will be waiting to see what we get off our registry...unless another great sale pops up. I definitely think you can wait much longer on those things and/or see what you get as gifts, I just couldn't pass up the sale.
Thank you for your responses. We aren't registering anywhere as we have chosen to not have a shower. So, I think I may start buying in the next two weeks then. I'm an obsessive planner as well - ha!
You can still register places like babiesrus usually offer a coupon for anything left on your registry. Also lots of places will have memorial day sales and 4th of July sales. Some might just be clothes but it might be worth waiting to see.
we will soon, as some of the furniture can take 10-12 weeks to get in...
TW: 1 infant loss 8/17: Our daughter was born 8/18: Our daughter kicked open heart surgery ass 2/19: We lost our son to Prader-Willi/Paradoxical Vocal Cord/ Noonans at 6wks old 4/26/2020: EDD for baby #3!!!
@Nxy is right! I've "registered" at target and BuyBuyBaby really just to get the coupons. We probably won't have a shower for this baby (especially since we're having another boy), but I'm all about getting a discount on diapers and a car seat.
I really want to try an arm's reach co-sleeper for this babe and my keyfit 30 expires in December or something so I guess I need a new one of those. I found each of these on a local yard sale page for $40, but am hesitating to buy as I feel superstitious. The reasonable part of me says that planning ahead is never a bad thing though. Trying to talk myself into pulling the trigger...
I'm super Type-A and so is DH so we have bought a ton already. Our crib was about 20% off the normal price on amazon last week so we just bought that (In-laws are reimbursing us at some point) and I have the dresser picked out at Ikea, just waiting for a coupon or sale since I have time. I have 2 carseats already bought as well since they were both about 50% off (Graco 4ever at Target was $202 and Graco Extend2Fit was $125 on amazon last week). Ended up choosing the 4ever based on how it fit in the car better and I have free returns on the extend2fit so that's going back next week. Also have 3 strollers all bought gently used on swap sites (Peg for our carrier, Maclaren umbrella, and Bob jogging). DH told me if I spend a dime this month on the baby he will cancel my credit card hahahaha I am not having a shower either so I knew I had to start watching prices immediately to get good deals on everything.
My parents bought our stroller and car seats. My mom asked me last weekend what the next big thing we need is and I said "a place for them to sleep would be nice." So I'm guessing either bassinets or cribs will be bought next. They are being very generous.
I think we'll buy cribs (if they don't), dresser, and glider within the next month. We have to finish cleaning out the babies' room first.
@donehue We had an arm's reach with DD and I LOVED it! I never actually attached it to our bed and just used it as a bassinet but I liked the shape & size of it better than a regular bassinet. It was given to me used but it worked perfect. I feel the same way about being superstitious but we're in the second trimester now!! Stress less!
I have DD's crib that we bought when we moved to FL almost 2 years ago and because we just moved and this LO will be in our room for awhile, I want to put it up now. Lol. DH thinks I'm crazy - says it's too early but I just want the room to be set up the way it will be.
Other than that I don't have any other items. I will start buying them slowly once we're all unpacked.
We are on baby 3 but I still need some stuff. I bought two sleep and plays (one for in our room and one for downstairs) I got one on clearance and the other from a swap site. DD is still in the crib so we just need something until baby and DD are ready to transition. I still have our changing table which I'm so glad because I actually use mine a lot! I got a tandem double stroller and the car seat to connect basically brand new from moms in my mom group. I also have my pump and pump bag/supplies along with my diaper bag. I would say I'm pretty much done with big stuff besides car seat bases to switch out the seat.
We we have an annual kids consignment sale this month where I will likely finish up there.

I might be reading this wrong, but please don't buy a car seat from a yard sale site! There's no way to be sure it was never in an accident, was always cleaned correctly, etc. A trusted friend or relative who can tell you the whole history is fine, but not a stranger. I buy pretty much all baby gear from consignment sales, but the car seat is one thing that should be bought new.
We are 90% moving in June/early July so I am trying not to buy anything before then so we have less to move. I sold our bouncer/swing/jumperoo/bathtub/high chair last year so I do have some stuff to replace and I keep seeing really good deals that are tempting. I keep telling myself I can find barely used things on BST pages all the time but it's hard to resist!
I already bought a crib, changing table, bassinet, car seat/ stroller. I am waiting on buying decorative things for after my anatomy scan, since my Dr won't tell me the sex until 21 weeks!
I'm waiting for our ultrasound next week before I buy anything. We are on #2 So don't have to buy much...but I do want a new stroller. We used it so much for DD it's worn out and I'd like a double stroller
I bought a second crib on CL because I found a really good deal. Same with a double stroller. I'm holding off on making any new purchases until I get the completion discounts for my registry. I'll probably wind up buying car seats through the Amazon open box deals because their is a good chance these babies will come before I get to use my completion discount.
We had a scan at 14 weeks that said boy so I bought a few things, swing, bouncer, jumperoo, crib, rock n play, etc. I also bought way too much clothing. So I'm really hoping in 2 weeks they tell me the scan was right otherwise the clothes are going back and a girl will have boyish gear
I got a high chair, even though we won't need it for a long time. I have friends giving me a crib and a co sleeper, and I think I've picked our my travel system, which my parents want to buy for us. Next to find is a dresser and a bouncer and I think I'm set on big stuff.
There's a 5 year difference between #2 and 3 so we needed to get a few things. We traded in expired car seats and some broken gear during the BRU trade in event to get the 25% off coupons. Normally I wouldn't have bought things this early. We got an infant car seat and a new snap n go frame because we chose a different car seat brand this time. We also replaced a swing.
Eventually we need to look for a crib, but we'll probably have the baby in our room at the beginning and if #3 is anything like my other kids, the crib won't really be used until it's converted into a bed.
We are going to babies r us today to look at/buy furniture. They have 20% off all furniture right now. I know we will get a crib and dresser, maybe a glider too. I've been looking at cribs on resale sites, because I could totally buy a used crib and dresser and refinish them, but I'm kinda nervous to buy a used crib because it may be older then 2011, may have lost some parts (screws, etc), and may not have directions to put it together!
During BRU Trade in event I bought a Graco Double stroller and matching infant seat. I found an incredible deal on a really nice nursery set, convertible crib, dresser w/changing table and armoire, on craigslist for my last son- I'm hoping I get lucky and find another set this time around so I haven't looked at new furniture yet. Other than that, I still have everything from my 2 year old son and we are having another boy so we are pretty set

I've purchased the chair for the nursery & we purchased our stroller a couple weeks ago (I'm was too excited to wait and also baby jogger was discontinuing the colour I really wanted). I've gotten 2-3 gender neutral items. Once I find out the gender at 20 weeks I'd like to get the nursery started as things go on sale. @budzynb - I'm also cut off from spending this month lol

I've been watching Craigslist and swap sites to see if I can find a City Select stroller because I sold mine last summer (not smart) but no luck yet. I'll buy that soonish if I can't find one used because it's the one baby item that I can't live without it. Otherwise we just need the car seat. Everything else I have from my previous babies or I'm borrowing from friends since this will absolutely be our last.
@dmbfan46835 - I think so! Haha I keep grouping the new carpet we just had put in as something for the baby (because really, we finally got it done because the baby is coming lol).

@dmbfan46835 Totally! It took me weeks to decide on window treatments for LO's room. New windows counts for sure. Random side note, who knew windows were so damn expensive?! A friend of mine bought a small cape style house with 10 or so windows and got a quote of $20,000 to replace them all with a standard style.
@secicc12 right?! We are piecing them out because our quotes have all been mid 20s as well. But I couldn't imagine that much for just 20 windows! That's absurd! I bet she shit! We did the windows in the master bed and bath in 2015. And now we are doing the other 3 bedrooms upstairs. And I'm hoping to get the backside of the first floor replaced next year maybe? But it sure is a process.

What is the amazon open box deal? How do I find those?
@donehue,. I love my arms reach co sleeper. It was a gift from my sister because she liked hers so much. Needed the leg extenders to raise it to bed level, but just used it is a bassinet. We even got the canopy for the top to keep the car out. She sleeps on us if we let her and didn't want to take that chance with a newborn.
We bought our travel system last week during BabiesRUs trade in event. DD will be 8 in April and was using her convertible car seat with the seatbelt so we traded that in and she got a backless booster and baby got a car seat/stroller system! I bought in taupe/black as we don't find out gender until saint pattys day! DD was stil using her baby dresser which has a changing table design so we swiped it and rearranged her room. She also still had an antique baby dresser in her room so I removed that as well. She got a cool big girl desk and some decor as a consolation prize! We really just "need" a crib which I have picked out- I'm a chemical freak so I'm buying a 100% hardwood without any stain from ikea, they're opening a store near my dad this summer. Not sure I'll wait until summer to buy. We won't be having a shower since this is #2 so I just pick up what I want!
I started a list of all the things we need and I just about had a heart attack. I think starting this week I'm going to start buying at least one thing a week so it doesn't seem like as much when I'm cramming it into the end.

keep in mind that newborns need very little, things like high chair, play gym, etc you won't need right away but of course there's def a few big ticket items like crib, car seat, dresser/changing table that you'll want to get so I'm totally with you on spacing out those purchases, that's what I did
We ordered the crib and dresser this weekend!!! I'm so excited!! Now I just need to finish clearing out the room so we can get it all set up when it comes in!
The price on our crib just dropped on Amazon so I think I'm going to talk to my H about buying them tonight. Also, I mentioned it to my mom and she said "How about you buy one and I but the other?" Score!
