Guilty Pleasure Names

What are your current guilty pleasures? Most of mine aren't off the table since SO and I don't have a naming style, we just pick what we like, but I always like hearing more.

Re: Guilty Pleasure Names

  • Elvis. For a girl.

No, I'd never consider this in real life :)

  • Dallas or Sterling for a girl. My first pregnancy I was completely obsessed with Sterling but everyone I talked to, everyone on the bump and my husband all hated it
  • Loading the player...
  • I knew a girl in college named Michael Anne who went by both that and Mikey. We have a lot of Michaels and Annes in our family, so I always thought that would be a cute honorific girl's name. But I'd never do it.

I tend to use names from our culture/family, so two names I love but wouldn't use are Astrid and Jaia. Not weird names, just not our style.

Oh, and Skye. In high school I always said that would be my baby name, boy or girl. Now, not my style, but definitely still a guilty pleasure name.
  • My GP names are boys names on girls- especially Logan.

I also love Clementine for a girl, but don't think I would ever actually name my daughter that.

As for boys, I absolutely love Clayton on a boy which I would 100% use but DH Isn't a fan- not sure that counts as GP

  • I love traditionally boy names on girls: Ryan, Noah, Sawyer, Joey etc.
I also love Scout, Story, Sailor, Briar and Poet for a girl.
I love Sebastian and Atlas for a boy.

boy gp names: orien, fearchar, ardy, winston, quinn, pierre, lane

  • I knew a girl named Austen in college. I thought the idea of naming a daughter after Jane Austen like that was so cool, but I would never do it. I also used to have a thing for using the name Stacey for a boy, but it's definitely not my style now.

I love Atlas for a boy. Would never use it, but I love it.

I really want to give our LO the MN Hermione if it's a girl, but DH says it's waaaay too nerdy. I also love Henrietta and Elisha for a girl, but would never use them. I also love month names, like January Jones, or September, which is the name of a character in a book series I love.

Love Perceval too! I just think of the cutest little guy named Percy but hubby hates it.
  • Girls: Tallulah, Temperance,
    Boys: Pollux
  • I love Aoife, Evangeline, and Ingrid.

For Aoife, we have Irish heritage, but its not that prominent so it would just seem a bit of a disconnect. Also, pronunciation.

Evangeline would make our kid's name 20 letters long! My husband is pretty set on most first names being 6 letters or under.

Ingrid would sound awful with our surname.
  • Mine are all ethnic names from a background we obviously do not share (my kids all have red hair and a McLastname). Ekaterina, Paloma, Esperanza, Alessandra, Noor, Kiranjit.

  • Girl - Willa
    Boy - Amadeus

  • Boy names for girls, but I don't consider it a guilty pleasure,  they are on my list...
Riley, Ryan, Spencer, Elliotte, Charlie, Dylan.... Dylan and Charlie we can't do bc of family names similar,  husband hates Elliotte. I loved Riley but it's getting really common. Still like Spencer too. NN Spence or I've seen Penny

  • Girl - Willa
    Boy - Amadeus
These are great names, no need to be guilty pleasure names!
  • Brett on a girl
I tutored a girl named Brett many years ago.  Lovely young lady.  Her older sister was Sam, which I think was short for Samantha.
High School English teacher and mom of 2 kids:

    DD, born 9/06/00 -- 12th grade
    DS, born 8/25/04 -- 7th grade
  • Penelope, Gwendolyn and Bronwen for a girl

Jasper, Beck and Hugo for a boy
  • My GP names are fairly normal names that I can't use with our last name. My last name starts with an S so pretty much any name that ends with that sound would just slur right into our last name. I can't use Grace for that reason. Ruth was a name that my H loved, and I love the meaning, but it RHYMES with out last name, so hell to the no with that one. And I LOVE Judah for a boy, but with a LN starting with S, if you say it together, it sounds like Judas and o.O So damn.

  • Oh so many guilty pleasure names! Our last name starts with R and ends in son, so a lot of names that end in the -on sound are completely out. Plus longer names are out too.

Girls: Persephone (nn Phe), Ariadne, Sparrow, Wren (DH vetoed).

    Boys: Tadhg, Destry, Orion
  • I love Shamus but we aren't Irish and it just doesn't fit well.
  • Wolfgang
    Park
    Winter
    Story
    September
    January
    Stone
    Olsen nn Ole
    Klein
I would never use any of these, but I have smiled when I've heard them on people. (I would use Wolfgang :) )
  • I love the name Trygve for a boy. Enough that I would probably use it if dh didn't hate it, even though it makes no sense in America.
  • I love Hudson and Tomasz for a boy. I love Collins, Truitt and Noah for a girl.
  • I have another one: Hannibal
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15

@laurenm2123 I wanted to use it so bad but my husband couldn't get on board (for any of our 3 girls). Such a wet blanket haha

I love the name Austen for a girl. It is actually on my list. I don't know if I would happen because my husband isn't a fan. But I think it is adorable.
  • Girls: Goldie and Winnie

  • I love, love the name Matteo but given our heritage we could never use it.
  • I love Cruz for a boy.
  • Dexter. Love it, but I also loved the show (about a serial killer named Dexter) and our last name has an X, so it'd be too much.

Resurrecting this Bc I love GP names.

    Laurel Dawn for a girl.

    Finnick Ryan for a boy.

I'd totally use them, too, but we won't have enough kids to ever get to those names (We'd have to have 2 more boys and 3 more girls to cycle through the list before we got to those.)

Crispin like the beer???  I've never heard that as a name, just a brand of beer/cider!

  • As much as people make fun of celebrities, I really like "nouns" being a name: Apple, January, Africa.
