Weekly Appointments 2/27

I haven't seen any appointment threads in a few weeks so I figured I'd get one started!

Who has appointments this week?

How are you feeling about them?

Any questions?

Re: Weekly Appointments 2/27

  • Who has appointments this week?
Just had an ultrasound this morning!
How are you feeling about them?
I was a little nervous because I hadn't seen our little peep for about 3 weeks, but also super excited!
    Any questions?
My question is when do most doctors do the next ultrasound? This one was about 11 weeks, and I have a 12 week appointment in about a week an a half. Will I get one then? When should I expect my next one?

  • @mrsmgsee Are you planning to do an NT scan? Usually that is done at 12 weeks. It is elective, so unless you have opted for it, you may not have another US until the 20 week anatomy scan where they can tell you the baby's sex.
  • @JNR6510 I don't know. My doctor hasn't talked about it, so I was going to ask him at my next appointment. I was kind of wondering if they were going to do it today during my ultrasound, but I think I'm still too early.

  • I had one today! It went well. I am measuring 11 weeks 5 days instead of 10 weeks 6 days. I go in 2 weeks to test for downs.
  • With DS I only had 2 regularly scheduled ultrasounds. I had a mini one when I went a day without feeling him move and we ran to the doctor. Little turd. I think he had the cord kinked or wrapped or something. The doctor didn't believe me because he moved right before we got to the doctor after an hour of driving. Anyway his heart rate was WAY below where it normally was. I knew something wasn't right but the turd fixed whatever it was before we could see. I will probably only get 2 ultrasounds from this doctor this time too. I'll probably go to an ultrasound place later this month to find out the sex but that's not doctor related at all.
  • @mrsmgsee You may want to call you doctor's office to schedule the NT scan if you are wanting to do it. At my OB office they had a pamphlet about it in our initial visit package and didn't mention it again until I brought up wanting to have it done.

I had my first OB appointment today. Typical get to know me and follow up since I had my son with them 5 years ago.

I have a question, or a rambling about gestational diabetes. I was 21 when I went into labour last time and I will be 27 with this baby (26 currently) and they didn't test me because I was so low risk. This Dr is now saying I am high risk due to my ethnicity (African / Canadian) and my BMI (18.5  I'm 5'9 and 128lbs - which all scream ow to me). I've never had any health issues and had, in her words, the ''perfect pregnancy and delivery" last time (24hr labour, 5 pushes, 7.7lbs babe, no tearing, left hospital 24hrs). I kinda got annoyed with how urgent she was being that I not drink juice, stay away from all sugar, eat more kale (her exact words) and just so sure I was going to get gestational diabetes this time. I did spend over an hour with her talking about life and she has all my test results from my last pregnancy. Am I over thinking her precaution? She has kinda freaked me out a bit.

On a positive note she let me record the heartbeat for FI and she said it was the fastest she ever got one, she barely touched me and it was so clear.

  • Who has appointments this week?

I have three appointments this week. Today I'm meeting with my endocrinologist team. Friday I have an ultrasound and my first meeting with my obstetrician.

How are you feeling about them?

im super excited for Friday. I can't wait to see the little jelly bean.

    Any questions?

    nada

  • Who has appointments this week?
Tomorrow!  It will be my second time meeting with the midwife.  We will finally get to hear a heartbeat!

How are you feeling about them?
Anxious. After two losses I can not hep but to feel anxious for each appointment but also excited!

    Any questions?

No questions but I will add  since there are questions regarding ultrasounds that it really is not routine to get more than one-two ultrasounds a pregnancy unless you are high risk or AMA.
  • Who has appointments this week? Me, Thursday morning, 13 week midwifery appointment.

How are you feeling about them? Not super excited other than to hear the heartbeat again. Hoping the owner/head midwife approves not having to pee in a cup every time.

Any questions? I'm not sure how they handle the first exam (gown? my own clothes?) and I'm not sure if I want DS in the room or not. Anyone have their toddler with them for this type of appointment?
  • Today's appointment went well.  I was not expecting to have to be checked for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia.  She told me it would be my OB appointment but I told her I already received a pap last August at my normal physical with my family doctor.  I was really hoping to not have to get undressed.  I also kicked DH out of the room.  Some things should be kept private...lol
  • @carabella I would say to leave your toddler at home for the first appointment.  It is usually lengthy and you will get your routine PAP and cervical check.

@JustBored10 they did say at the first appointment I wouldn't need a pap since the last one was recent enough and all clear. But if they do a cervical check I'll have DH or my mom take him out of the room!
  • Who has appointments this week?
Just had my 12 week one last night at my OB

How are you feeling about them?
Pretty good, finally got to hear the heartbeat, Dr found it immediately. He also reviewed my scan from the cell free DNA test and decided to changed my due date finally! I said this before, but at my 8 week ultrasound I was measuring 6 days ahead and dr didn't want to change my due date bc it was under a week. Then at MFM, I measured 1w3d ahead, they suggested changing my due date. So now my EDD is August 27.

    Any questions?
Nope. Just adding that I'm supposed to hear back from MFM or they'll contact my OB with the cell free DNA blood test results by next Thursday (2 weeks max they said). Anxious for those results!
  • Who has appointments this week? I scheduled an elective ultra sound for Friday... after a loss, I think seeing baby at 13 weeks will calm me down a lot.

How are you feeling about them? A little anxious, but mostly excited...baby was wiggling around all over the place at the last ultrasound (10 and 1/2 weeks) so I'm excited to see this one!

  • @Carebella I had my hubby, DS (5) and DD (3) in the room with me during my first appoitment. The dr did do a vaginal ultrasound. I gave my son my phone and changed. The chairs were at the head of the table so when I laid down for the ultrasound there was no way my kids could see what the Dr was doing.  I was around 7 weeks at that appt- this  last one I was 11weeks and they just did an ultrasound on the stomach so no big deal having everyone there.
  • Had my first appt with the midwife today (10+5)

The appointment was uneventful. Just a bunch of questions about medical history, thoughts on depression and alcohol use, etc. They checked my weight, blood sugars, blood pressure, and hemoglobin, which were all normal, then I had to go to a lab for blood tests on immunity and blood type but those results aren't immediate. I had a pap smear and they checked for protein in my urine (none!).

the funny part was that pre appt I thought "they might want a urine test so I won't pee before going" then in the waiting room I felt super gross and ran to the washroom. Didn't puke, but totally lapsed and peed D so literally 2 mins later when my appt started she was like, we need a urine sample, and I was like, .... I squeezed just enough out though lol

The next appointment isn't until the anatomy scan in the end of April/early may at a different center. My next appointment with the midwife isn't until may 5 when I'll be almost 19-20 weeks...it's going to be a long 9 weeks until then...

i asked her her if we could do ANYTHING to check that LO is ok in there and she's like, "no, it's too early to check for heart beat because we  can't do that until 24 weeks" TWENTY FOUR?!?! Has anyone heard that before or is this a weird Europe thing? I thought people got fetal heart rate checked at least at 12 weeks but I could be wrong. This is actually making me consider getting a Doppler....

Say what?? At my first ultrasound at 8 weeks, the doctor was able to find and measure the heartbeat but it was too small to hear. And my second ultrasound at 11 weeks, we were able to hear it for a few seconds. The nurse did say it was bad for the baby to try to listen to it too long, which I was a little confused on but maybe she wasn't using Doppler but something else? Anyways, that's really weird that they would wait that long...

  • @mrsmgsee yea, I've SEEN the heartbeat on the 8 week scan, and I'm thinking this midwife might not use dopplers for some reason? A medical friend said stethoscopes can be used after 20 weeks, so I'm wondering if she's super old school :S
