Hi, ladies. I'm new here and have been mostly trying to find my answers from previous posts but I can't seem to find anything to support this...
At my first fertility appointmentment yesterday, it was recommended that I get an HSG before starting clomid (makes sense). BUT my doc says we can't have unprotected sex until my next cycle because of the radiation.
Everything I'm reading says it's such minimal radiation, and the egg is still protected so early on, that BDing is fine. I'm even seeing that people get pregnant right after their HSG!
I'm very anxious to get pregnant and don't want to skip a whole month if it's not absolutely necessary.
Do you all have any experience with this?
Thanks!
Re: No sex for the month after HSG?!
Seriously, not a word about radiation.
DH - low motility
Rx: Levothyroxine, misc supplements

I'd say if you want to BD after then go ahead and BD. Just watch for any sign of infection

An HSG should really be scheduled before ovulation in your cycle (a good RE will take that into account) to ensure there is no way you are pregnant (even a little) before you go. The HSG is radiation, and similarly a doctor would not perform a regular x-ray if you were pregnant.
I also think there is concern about potential to cause an ectopic pregnancy due to the contrast fluid flushing backwards through the tubes (thus forcing an embryo back into the tubes where it might implant) - therefore some doctors are adamant about no sex between the first day of your period and the day of the HSG.
Thirdly, as some have mentioned, is the concern about infection. Should you have an STI or other bad bacteria in your vagina or cervix at the time of the HSG the catheter could push that bacteria into your uterus/tubes and cause a very serious infection called pelvic inflammatory disease. Obviously this would be bad for an early pregnancy as well.
So yes, feel free to do the deed as soon as the procedure is done!
