Re: Monday Ticker Change 2/27

  • How far along are you? 22 weeks

    How big is baby? Papaya

Upcoming appointments this week? I have another anatomy scan next week.

Any new symptoms or changes? Pregsomnia is real.

Rants/Raves/Questions?   15 days until we leave for Hawaii!!!  I need some sun, I'm losing my mind in the winter.

GTKY: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?  I dunno, read Deadpool comics?
  • How far along are you? 19w

How big is baby? Mango, heirloom tomato, etc.

Upcoming appointments this week? Nothing until 3/10

Any new symptoms or changes? Getting food crazy. Like... fight my husband over some damn toaster strudel/want to steal my coworker's Pei Wei crazy.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

GTKY: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?  This is a hard one...  I'm honestly not sure!  DH loves comics, so we used to have a comic book club, but we had to end it because it was too much to keep up with.

How far along are you? 20 weeks (half way!!)

How big is baby? A banana

Upcoming appointments this week? I have my anatomy scan on the 3rd as well as the fetal echo cardiogram (which I am starting to wonder if I should keep that one....)

Any new symptoms or changes? Weird a$$ dreams.... A lot are weirdly demonic or possessed related. Maybe no more Criminal Minds before bed?

Rants/Raves/Questions? Since it's a bit longer, I put it in a spoiler box. TB divided it into 3 boxes I guess.

For those who don't know, DH & I had heart defects at birth. Mine was fixed and an "over and done with" situation where as DH had 4 open heart surgeries by the time he was 18. Because of that my OB had me to to the Maternal Fetal Care Clinic (specialty clinic / doctors) for my NT scan, etc because they have machines that can see things clearer / different things. This was about a month and 1/2 ago (around 13 / 14 weeks). I am going back to this clinic for my anatomy scan so they can get a good / clear picture of everything including the baby's heart. I am fine going there for the anatomy scan and understand why my OB wants them to do it. Then we're supposed to go 1 building over (to Children's Hospital) for the fetal echo cardiogram to listen to the heart beat.
DH & I feel like the fetal echo cardiogram might be overkill since we're doing the anatomy scan literally right before we go there. We have 15 minutes in between the 2 appointments. Specialty Clinic doctors of course say we need both and my OB seems to think I need to do both but since it's specialty our insurance doesn't cover it (which is about 3% of why were hesitant) so that's a small factor too but ultimately we want to do what's best for the baby.

What are your thoughts / opinions?

GTKY: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time? Read books lol

  • I haven't been around as much lately. I need to get better at keeping up. Life got in the way of my Bump time!

How far along are you? 21 weeks

How big is baby? Boring endive

Upcoming appointments this week? Nope. Not until end of March.

Any new symptoms or changes? Not really. I'm taking Prevacid daily for reflux and it's helping quite a bit.

Rants/Raves/Questions? I had the stomach flu for the first time in my entire life over the weekend. I might have had it as a kid, but never in my adult life that I remember. It was terrible. I don't usually get sick besides a little cold or a cough that won't go away. Baby has really taken a toll on my immune system!

GTKY: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time? Oh gosh. I'm not sure. Probably just play games on my phone. I'm certainly not the coolest person in the world, but I'm not really into anything - nerdy, cool, or otherwise.

@SaphireSweetie88 - how long would it take you to get back into the heart specialist if you decided to postpone it? You could call and set an appointment for later and then see how things look on your anatomy scan. That will give you time to cancel if you feel like things go well at your anatomy scan.
The downside to that is if the anatomy scan shows concerns, you then have to wait for the specialist appointment.
  • @itsnotyourturn Woohoo countdown to Hawaii!  Our babymoon isn't until the end of April.  It can't get here fast enough!

@maybeitsmadeline The hunger is real.  At 2AM last night my stomach was growling so loud that it woke up my husband and my two dogs lol.

@SaphireSweetie88 I would personally keep the echo cardiogram appointment.  I think it would help my sanity to have just one more confirmation that everything is okay.  But I totally get your reasoning for reconsidering it.

@ginger1228 So glad to hear the prevacid is helping.  I know the reflux was getting really bad for you!

How far along are you? 19 weeks

How big is baby? Bump says mango, Babysizer says hot dog, Ovia says hedgehog

Upcoming appointments this week? YES!  Anatomy scan on Thursday.  I vacillate between being excited and nervous.  We haven't had any testing done yet (NIPT, NT Scan, Quad Screen) so this will be our first opportunity to see if there's anything abnormal.

Any new symptoms or changes? I felt my first "this is definitely baby" kick in yoga class on Saturday!  I cannot get a good night's sleep if my life depended on it.  I used to sleep like a rock, and now I'm lucky if I get 4 hours of good sleep in.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Does anyone have any tips for sleeping better?  I'm not having caffeine during the day.  I typically don't eat after 8 PM, so it's not reflux that is bothering me.  I think it could be a stimulation problem (too much phone/internet before bed).

GTKY: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?  Spend too much time on the Bump ;)

  • @SpongeWorthy That's too funny!  I feel like I'm obsessed with food.  I'm constantly planning what I'll eat next!  :D

So excited you have your anatomy scan!  It feels like they're taking forever to get here!  I am counting down the days.  As for sleeping, I've gotten much better sleep after I got my snoogle, but still toss a couple times at night.  Except on Saturday night into Sunday, I didn't move ALL night.  I woke up in the exact same position I went to sleep in and I felt FABULOUS because I slept a good 10-11 hours.  It was magical and oh so rare.

  • @maybeitsmadeline That sounds like a dream!  I actually had a great sleep last Thursday and it made such a difference the next day.  I am using my Snoogle semi regularly.  I always start out with it but then it gets on my nerves and I get rid of it.

Your anatomy scan is getting so close!!!!  This big gap between ultrasounds has been harder than I thought it would be.  Is the doppler still working well for you?

  • @SpongeWorthy Yes!  If I hadn't gotten the doppler I would have lost my mind by now.  I feel the baby move every so often, but it's still so random that I get anxious when I can't feel anything.  You know how our minds start to wander!  The doppler has been a huuuuge help.  Now that I have it, I'm much less anxious and only use it every few days to check for the heartbeat and listen to the baby swishing around in there.  It makes me so happy!

I totally feel you on the gap between u/s!  It's rough!  I'm excited to see the difference in size from when I had my last u/s (12w 5d) and when I go on 3/10 (20w 4d!!!)  It's a huge difference so I'm excited!

@ginger1228 - I am not sure how long it would take. I am guessing probably a couple weeks. My sister said keep it and if the anatomy scan goes well then cancel it. I am not a fan of that since I'd be cancelling literally last minute.

@SaphireSweetie88, I dont have a medical history like you and your h so I can't speak to that part but DH and I did decide if they can't get the proper view of our little ones heart we won't do any more ultrasounds for that purpose.  I get the distinct impression that these repeat ultrasounds are more for billing purposes than anything else.  There were no red flags or soft markers on our first anatomy scan, had there been I might feel differently.

@SpongeWorthy,  first, we want an update on your anatomy scan Thursday, Friday at the latest, lol. Second, where are you going for your babymoon?  How far along are you going to be?

@ginger1228, stomach flu sucks, hope you feel better soon!

@maybeitsmadeline, I have a huge bowl of salad or soup every night at like 11pm otherwise at 2 or 3 am I wake up and shove Haagen Dazs bars in my face ;)
  • @Itsnotyourturn

Yeah we had to tell my regular OB that we didn't want any more checking in ultrasounds unless there was something wrong (other than the anatomy scan) because she was doing them every 4 weeks. She seemed to understand that but when we questioned her about having the anatomy scan done at the specialty clinic (instead of at my regular clinic) she seemed defensive and insistent that I needed both the anatomy scan and the fetal echo cardiogram done and that they had to be done at the specialty clinic.

I don't know what to do and I don't want to make the wrong decision :/

  • @SaphireSweetie88, that's so tough.  I honestly don't know what I would do.  Have you called your insurance to see if they would cover the echo at another facility?
  •  @Itsnotyourturn I will definitely keep you updated  ;) We are going to San Diego, Laguna Beach and Palm Springs!  I'll be 26ish weeks and hopefully feeling good enough to do some hikes at Joshua Tree national park.  The main reason we're going is one of my old roommates is marrying one of DH's old roommates - how cute is that!  They actually started dating before we did.  Can't wait to get the old college crew back together.  I'll live vicarously through your Hawaii trip until then, so be sure to tell us all the details and give us photos!

  • @SpongeWorthy, ohhh I am so jealous.  I wanted to go to so cal (just a two hour plane ride for me) but I'd be mainly going for amusement parks which are not as awesome pregnant, I imagine anyways.  That is soooo cute that your roommates are getting married.
Also, I fully intend to AW Hawaii in a pictorial style post, lol.  I effing love Hawaii.  Little bummed I can't eat the poke, but I will eat ALL the garlic shrimp.

  • Sorry I have been MIA and now this is a day late! Work has been nuts and then we were on vacation, but hopefully you all don’t mind me jumping back in.

How far along are you? 20 weeks

    How big is baby? Banana

Upcoming appointments this week? A/S is on Thursday! I can’t wait!

Any new symptoms or changes? Still dealing with crappy abdominal pain. Went in for a repeat gallbladder ultrasound today, so we’ll find out on Thursday if that showed anything concerning.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Mostly just excited to see the baby again and hopefully find out if we’ll be having a boy or girl.

GTKY: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time? I read a lot, so maybe that? DH and I also like playing board games and have quite the collection.

@Itsnotyourturn Have a great time in Hawaii!

@maybeitsmadeline I laughed at your food crazy comment. I definitely had a hangry moment yesterday. :)

@SaphireSweetie88 Could you do the anatomy scan first and then decide about doing the cardiogram on a later date based on the results? Or does it have to be done at 20 weeks? I would think spreading them out might help you process the information anyway (and be gentler on your wallet).

@ginger1228 Stomach flu is awful! Hope you get feeling better quickly.

@SpongeWorthy Now my brain is trying to figure out how a hot dog, a mango, and a hedgehog are all considered the same size… :) Are you taking Diclegis or Unisom before bed? My doctor has said I can take the Diclegis all the way until the baby is born if it helps me sleep at night.

  • @abjm0325 Woohoo for Thursday anatomy scans!  Be sure to update us when you get the chance :) The baby size comparisons are just ridiculous lol.  I did buy some Unisom when I was in the throes of MS, but never took any and kind of forgot about it.  Thanks for the reminder.  I may have to try that because I am on the border of being a literal zombie.

  • @abjm0325 - GL with your a/s! We once again have appointments in the same week lol. As for the echo cardiogram, I could possibly spread it out but I don't know how far out I'd have to make it ( 1 week or 1 month) and IF they saw something on the a/s I'd be a wreck until the echo cardiogram... sigh.
