Re: Stockpiles

  • I've grabbed some clothing marked down deep for clearance. I figure they can be gifts for other people depending on the gender.
  • Loading the player...
  • @doubleldom3 I forgot I had some too! I just scored a cute Sherpa white bear carters zip up outerwear thing.  Was originally 38, got it for 9!

  • I have everything from baby # 1 (unless it's a boy ill need new clothes), so I am stockpiled up with baby crap hahaha (DD is 13 months). Ill definitely grab some swaddle blankets and diapers when I see them on sale :)

@grkgdss00 I'm literally starting all over. I do have some clothes from my girls and a glider I couldn't let go in storage. I also have some baby toys I just couldn't give away. But when I see a sale or coupons, I'm going for it.

Another idea i saw was to buy a gift card to target every time you shop and stock up on that.

  • @canonmom413 not me - I saved everything cause I knew we were going to try again soon. I've let friends borrow tons of stuff but it's all coming back! I like the Target gift card idea - also when they have those sales on diapers etc "buy $100 in diapers/wipes get $25" would be a good time to buy!
  • Oh this is a great idea! FTM here so I had no idea. What I do have is one of those mucus suction bulbs... new in package that I never used. Otherwise, I am already peeping at diaper sales. DH would flip out if I started too soon on those, so I will try to buy some gender neutral clothes or little supplies.

  • @lovehorse77, I'm exactly like you. DH and I have started talking about some stuff we will need/want. But I'm not ready to purchase anything yet. I don't want to be pessimistic, but I would prefer to wait. Plus we don't really have the space to store a bunch of stuff yet. We need to decide what we are doing in terms of our rooms (if we are moving DS into the other bedroom upstairs, or keeping him where he is and converting the other room into a nursery).
  • So, I'm one of those people who loves to be overly prepared...but here's my word of caution from a STM to FTM's. Be careful about overstocking on diapers. DD wore size NB for maybe a week or two before outgrowing. Some kids never need NB. So, just don't buy too much :) Also, you won't know what brand of diapers you prefer until baby is here. I learned DD did so much better with Pampers than other brands, and I was left with boxes of Huggies that I never used because they leaked on her constantly. Just some food for thought!

If you are looking for diaper deals though I recommend following Hip2Save or other couponing facebook/blogs. :)
^^This. For all you know your kid will have some weird reaction to the one brand of diapers you stocked up on. My girls weren't sensitive at all but I'm not stocking up on diapers....we stayed in newborns for awhile because mine were semi tiny but I bought one box to begin with and added on as needed because it sucks to have leftover diapers you can't use! (this coming from the lady with a full box of size 5's and 6's in the closet because my 2 year old surprisingly potty trained early...and I never got around to giving them away, so hey they'll be used eventually  :-P)

  • The great thing about diapers is KEEP THEM SEALED and Target or Walmart will exchange for other diapers brand or size. They will NOT give store credit without receipt and if stocking up now, wouldn't matter return policy but if you need either a brand or size change, you can swap out. I know I can't do Huggies and tried to tell sister I would avoid stocking up or ASKING for that brand for her twins because both her and I got chemical burns from the brand as children. My son has done well in Pampers so stocking up on that would be ideal with coupons when we know the pregnancy is in the clear.

  • I use to run a huge deal thread in a clearance group for Amazon stuff and find deals..guess I need to get back at it lol. I have so many darn baby showers to go to and of course everyone wants you to bring diapers above and beyond gifts lol.

  • I bought some adorable swaddle blankets yesterday but am trying to keep the purchases down til later. We have been gifted so much used stuff from our friends! I'm hoping my nesting doesn't kick in and I buy a bunch of stuff I don't need.
  • I have two children so I have to sort through all of my newborn stuff to assess what I have and or need. I have a case of size 2 diapers and I am good on maternity clothes. I maybe just need one more tankini. Burlington coat factory had a crazy clearance rack.... once I know the gender I am going to start stockpiling. New wash cloths and burpie cloths and new bottles and nipples for sure. It's all so exciting.
  • I also won't hound anyone but cloth diapers ROCK!!!!! We used sposies first few weeks because my son's little chicken legs lol but he was cloth unless we were gone ALL DAY and not at a house but running around or if he had antibiotics through his system. My husband can't wait to cloth again! We have a nice stash!

  • I got a set of onesies and a toy. I'm not buying anything else until ~12 weeks.
  • Reading about stock piling diapers really makes me hope I'm able to buy diapers for this one

  • Just got BFP last night and H already asked if we should start stocking up when things are on sale so we don't have "diaper sticker shock" when the time comes :) this is #1 for us but we're the last of our friends to get pregnant so there's been plenty of free advice!

  • I'm like @lovehorse77 and @mommac2017 I'm too paranoid to buy anything yet. I'm itching to though. ITCHING.

I have a ton of stuff from my  20 month old son so we're ok with clothes. As far as the other necessities, we'll wait until we know things are going well this time :) being very positive but still cautious. I'll go crazy shopping once we get past the first tri.

@canonmom413  I love that you're stocking up on diapers already! I might have to add some smaller sizes to DD's Honest order for a couple months (she's almost completely potty trained, easy to swap out big diapers/training pants for little diapers!).

I have 7 bins of clothes, blankets, swaddles, etc from DD (she's 3 next month). And a bunch of clothes I've lent out are coming back! Depending on this little ones gender, we should be set, unless it's a boy then just need some boy clothes - and sell all the girl clothes! Our friend is borrowing our crib, we will get that back in November (won't need it until baby is 6 weeks anyway). All we really need, without going through everything, is a cradle or bassinet, simple changing table and changing pad. Hoping to get most items on buy nothing or used!

  • @ShakeUpTampa team cloth right here! We also used disposable the first few weeks when baby was constantly going, but when it slowed down about 6 weeks we put her in cloth.
If anyone is considering using cloth, I can't recommend it enough!! It has saved us hundreds and is much easier than originally expected. I cried when the delivery came I was so overwhelmed! But you adapt to the differences, and it becomes a money-saving norm!
  • 2 weeks ago target had a big box diaper sale that if you bought 2 boxes you got a $10 gift card.

I bought 4 boxes of diapers (nb,size1, size1, size 2).  And used my gift cards  towards bunk beds for my daughter's  (since our toddler will be moving out of the nursery).
  • Target is a great one for stock up on diapers, if you can catch the $25 gc when  you spend $100 and pile on clipped coupons and cartwheel offers you can really score. Also this week Huggies jumbo packs at Walgreens end up being $6 a package when you have $3 off coupons. The biggest savings always ended up being the drug stores with sales/coupon stacking and getting them for $1-$3 a bag.

  • Hip 2 save mom on Facebook just posted about targets huggies diaper and wipe deal. You can get packages for like 2 bucks. I can't stand huggies- I'm a pampers and Luvs mom , but if anyone knows they like huggies- it's a great deal.

I am new to this! Does this matter if they were gifted to you or does it matter where they were bought? Do you just walk to the return desk and exchange? Just curious!

  • I've bought some gender-neutral onesies, but I'm trying not to buy anything else for a while. We have a 2-year-old nephew and a 5-month-old niece, plus I have cousins who have both boy and girl babies, so we're counting on lots and lots of hand-me-downs. In fact, we may or may not deliberately buy stuff for our niece and nephew that we would want handed down to us.
  • I have some internet carts full of newborn cloth diapers (as well as some fun ones for my toddler because loth is waaay too cute) but I'm waiting to pull the trigger on them. Otherwise, I have everything from my 17 month old that'll work fine, and a stockpile of fabric I've been saving for a new baby. I predict 9 months of sewing ahead!
  • @nmingram does not matter as long as they carry that package size. However, you shouldn't do it often because I think without receipt Walmart for instance you have to give DL so they can track who is returning stuff without receipts and you can only do so many every 6 months or  year. However, ANY item you get that you may need to return that BRU carries, just add it to your registry and you get a year return/exchange as long as it is on there even if not claimed off (some people forget to scan off)

  • My son is 13 months so we saved a lot of his stuff.

We have receiving blankets, towels, tons of toys, all of the "big stuff" (I.e. car seat, swing, jumperoo, bumbo, etc), and tons of clothes if we have another boy. The second time is so much easier!
  • Target is doing a deal this week, you can see info at Krazy Coupon Lady or something like that. Basically Buy $75 worth of diapers, wipes, bath, food? and get $15 gc back. Use coupons on the pampers and kandoo wipes and after gift card you are saving $6-7 per box. Sorry it's early and I can't brain right now lol.

  • Me too! I am crazy enough to have made a list of everything we may ever need based on online lists, youtube videos and mommy vlogs. But I am waiting till I hit that 12 week mark to go all out. <3 And thanks to all you amazing ladies for the diaper tips.
