Possible Cravings and Sex Correlation?

I attended my cousins gender reveal over the weekend.  After it was announced she's having a girl, my sister commented that she knew it was a girl because when she was pregnant with my niece she had an aversion to coffee.  My cousin has the same coffee aversion.  (How anyone could make it without coffee is beyond me.)  It got me thinking, has anyone else noticed similar cravings and gender correlations with their pregnancies or pregnancies of blood related family member?

  • Nope! I had almost every old wives tale symptoms of boy and had a girl!
  • @mrs_fogue No need to go bang your head.
The question isn't around if certain overall cravings = boy vs. girl. Sorry you read it that way.  But rather have you noticed similar things between your own pregnancies and those of family members. I know every pregnancy is different.  However, family coincidences can lead to some interesting stories.

  • @jessafishy a family coincidence is not a superstition, which is what an old wives tale is.

The point of this was to hear some stories and have fun. Not have the haters come out and be snarky with banging head gifs or "there it is" comments.

And if I want to say "Gender" instead of "Sex" I will.  I am aware of the difference.  I am also aware, that my child will grow into whoever they want to be, but while they're little, I will dress them by the gender that I think they are. Until they can tell me otherwise.

That's literally like saying, "I'm aware of the difference in meaning between the word red and the word blue. But I'm gonna say that Fire-Hydrant is blue until I'm red in the face."

Stop being ignorant, just use the word correctly if you know the difference.
  • I'm not being ignorant. I will use "gender" because I know that once the sex is known, I will essentially place gender stigmas on my child before birth. If it's a little girl, I will buy dresses and might even come to grips with the color pink. If it's a boy, he'll have cute sports themed onesies. So, I will use "gender" because I'm using it correctly.

Just because you're rationalizing it for yourself doesn't make "gender reveal" or "gender correlation" (in the sense that you used them) correct.
  • Yeah. I've already said what I think about people like you.

Also, how do you think Old Wives Tales originated?

  • @buttercream_frosting Totally jealous over the Easter eggs. I feel as though I jet past the holiday section at the store right now. Peeps would be my downfall!
P.S. That's Hilarious! In about 8 weeks we need to start a thread asking "Team Steele or Team Grey"! Also J/K.

So you understand your kid doesn't come out with a gender, but you're going to impose it on them anyway because you feel like it, and then let them go through the process of finding themselves on their own, without your support, and put it on their shoulders to tell you who they really are? Man do I hope your kid lives up to your expectations.

The chocolate conversation was way better than this one.
During my sister's 1st pregnancy, she was sick as a dog the whole time and had a boy. During her 2nd pregnancy, she was sick as a dog the whole time and had a girl. I haven't felt too bad so far... guess I'm having a mermaid.
Um, no, clearly you're having a unicorn ;-) Don't go imposing fishy expectations of your child until you know they like to swim. C'mon. (ugh sorry quote fail)

@theglitteredpterodactyl - Unfortunately... I started feeling queasy yesterday.. and it's been on and off ever since. So unfortunately, not a unicorn OR a mermaid. Sigh... I'll take the human... but I can't say I'm not a little disappointed.

  • I have been craving anything salty.. I have no clue what I'm giving birth to.
  • @crazypuglady well think of this way--how awful would it be to have to birth that unicorn horn? And a mermaid would definitely require a birth pool, so you know, that'd be one more thing to have to plan ;-) Hope your symptoms take it easy on you
