2WW - how to avoid going stir crazy

so ladies, what suggestions do you have in keeping sane during the 2WW?

the RE tells me to rest as much as possible and take it light on activities, but then how do you avoid over-analyzing every little 'sign'

IVF#1 Sep 2016 (4 eggs retrieved, 2 matured, 0 transferred due to DNA breakdown)
IVF#2 Nov 2016:  Estrogen &  Ganirelix.   Stimming: Loprun, Follistim, Menopur. (7 eggs retrieved. 3 matured. 0 transferred due to PGD results)

IVF#3 Feb 2017: Estrogen priming. Menopur, Follistim and HGH

Re: 2WW - how to avoid going stir crazy

  • I try to focus on the fact that I could be pregnant. It's the most hope you can have until there's a BFN. I am in the TWW and my test is Thursday and I've been cranky as all hell so I'm guessing PMS but until I know for sure, I take the hope.

  • Ugh...right there with you! I had my transfer Friday..it is going to be a long 2 weeks. I usually run when I am anxious but I obviously won't be doing that since I'm supposed to be keeping my activies light.

Be positive and visualize the embryo implanting and the baby developing. Repeat positive affirmations to yourself. I think we should really take this time to love ourselves. We have done all that we could...now we wait and hope for the best.

    **Hugs***
  • Thank you both - sending you both lots of positive vibes also. I think I might take the pup for a little and light hike and then get my nails done today.. let the pampering begin  @junicek  @Sweetdrms182

I was really bad at waiting. :# I made it to 5dpt and could not take it any more, lol. I do think I would have been able to hold out a few days longer, but that morning I actually felt different, and not like a normal tww feeling. Getting a pedicure was great and distracting too. FX for you!!!

eta, I think one thing that kept me in the mode of overanalyzing my symptoms, was that I had every family member and friend who knew, asking me on a daily basis how I'm feeling, which is really sweet, but not helpful if you are trying to make the time pass by quickly. If this is something that you notice during your tww (and if it bothers you), it might be helpful to gently ask them to simmer down.  :D

  • Before we got DH's diagnosis and knew that things weren't going to happen naturally, I was soooo bad during the wait. However, DH and I used that time to do activities that we enjoy doing together, like going country dancing or hiking around on the weekends. We would make it a point to try to be as social as possible, especially with people who didn't know that we were trying so that we could just be in the moment. Sending you lots and lots of positive vibes!!!

  •  @ChocolateIsLife - I agree, my husband asks me regularly if I'm 'feeling pregnant' haha he also nearly freaked out when I tripped a little yesterday - goodness he'll have my wrapped up in cotton wool before too long

@AlohaKumu - those are great ideas, my nephew is in Nyc from Australia tomorrow, so I get to play tour guide for a few days which will be a nice distraction

  • Try to keep busy and also relax! I've got good friends who know what to ask or not ask so I'm lucky, the day after transfer I had my MIL and a friend ask me questions that panicked me. So I'm avoiding anyone that'll do that :) otherwise I'm going for walks and crocheting- things that keep my mind occupied :) fingers crossed!

6dp3dt and I'm dying!! ok perhaps I'm just overly dramatic but my gosh the not knowing is insane. I've been keeping busy enough, but every twinge is completely overanalyzed.

Yesterday and Sun I was feeling a little nauseous, so I thought great... something is happening, now today I feel nothing, so of course, I'm thinking that something happened and it didn't work.

Beta test is Monday, only 4 more days..

To all you other ladies on your 2WW you are so STRONG and more patient than what we think, we can do this!!

  • @natalie4oscar you will make it! I have my beta tomorrow and although it will be good to know, the thought that it could be negative is devastating. So try to hold onto the hope that it's positive because until you know it isn't, you have to assume you are. Good luck with your wait
  • Good luck for tomorrow, please let us know how it goes  @junicek

  • Well I caved and took a PM test 5dp5dt. It came out negative which was probably to be expected. I'm right there with you ladies! My beta isn't for another 6 days :disappointed:
  • @sweetdrms182 I don't blame you at all for doing a HPT, the suspense is just too much. But you know the result isn't completely accurate at this point, so have faith and hold out until your BETA test.

how do you plan on keeping yourself occupied during the next 6 days?

@junicekLet us know how your beta goes....I'm rooting for you. I love the term PUPO (pregnant until proven otherwise).

@natalie4oscar Ugh...not sure. 6 days is a long time. I'll probably bury myself in work and try to finish a few books that I'm reading. I love running but that is out of the question at this point. I booked my schedule this weekend pretty solid - I set up several friend dates to keep myself occupied.

I had told myself to wait until 7dp5dt (FET) to test..lol. I know I'll continue to take tests everyday until my Beta....it's just my MO at this point (lol).

I've had 2 successful cycles in the past where I tested early. I just won't be at ease until the Beta and then the U/S after that. I got a positive this AM so at least I know that implantation occured since my body is starting to produce HCG. It definitely doesn't rule out a chemical pregnancy but I feel better now and it's a step in the right direction
  • The above timeline has been helpful to me to let me know what's going on each day

Im at day 7 and seriously thinking of doing a HPT but really my BETA is on day 10, so I should just be patient

@sweetdrms182 it sounds like the weekend is going to fly by for you with all your activities, so hang in there just a little bit longer. While you can't run, some long walks might be nice to clear the mind and get the blood moving

  • @natalie4oscar My DH has an appointment with his specialist on Monday. It's taken at least a month in between appointments, so the wait has been awful, since we don't even know what's causing the azoospermia yet. They screwed up all his bloodwork after taking 8 vials of blood and made him come back for another blood draw this week. I'm hoping we will get some answers on Monday, but I have a feeling that he's just going to be doing more tests. However, I know we are probably looking at a process like this once we get a diagnosis, so I'm learning a lot and cheering for all of you!
