Registry dillema - Chicco pack and play

My FI and I registered a little so far.  We picked out our travel system and high chair (both matching chicco).  They were not far more expensive than the Graco's (which I just consider the Standard for alot of that stuff).

My question is the pack and play that we originally registred for is the Chicco as well and 179 at BRU.  I really don't see noticable or usefull difference between this Chicco and some of the Gracos that are around 100 dollars. I do like it better, because of its looks but really it isn't more functional, safe or practical.

I am feeling a little guilty registering for this when I feel like the GRACO standard 100 pack and play would really serve us just fine.

We are not from RICH families...and I am just thinking we should change it to the Graco.

Also - has anyone read something like the standard size sheets for playards don't fit the Chicco?

Re: Registry dillema - Chicco pack and play

  • I haven't heard anything about the sheets not fitting the Chicco, but we are registered for the Chicco, as well as my mom is getting the same one for her house.  They are rated top in safety, and I like the look and ease of use of Chicco products better (for our purposes) more than Graco.  I'm not a fan of any Graco products and am not getting any, personally.

  • I went with a Graco mainly because I read bad reviews on the Chicco. Mainly that it was bulky, hard to set up/breakdown, etc. I think the standard Graco ones do just fine. We got one that has a bassinet, changing table and regular PNP for about $110.

ETA: We are getting the Chicco travel system so originally we wanted the matching PNP but decided against it.

  • I registered for the Chicco one, too, in green. I liked the way it looked better than the current Graco patterns. I, too, am curious about the sheets.

However, I did change my high chair to a different one because that Chicco one got really bad reviews in terms of cleaning. Ack.

  • I say keep it on there. If they can't afford it, they wont get it for you. But sometimes people like to all pitch in for a more expensive gift so you might just get it. If you don't, you can always use gift cards and cash to go get it after your showers if you want it that bad. And if you decide after you can settle on the cheaper one, get that one with any gift cards and cash you receive.
  • I registered for the Chicco - it got a better rating than the Graco from Consumer Reports & I liked the "look" better.  I haven't found info about the sheets & was planning to call Chicco customer service. I'd say register for what you want - it's not completely unreasonable & it could be the type of item that a few people chip in together to get for you.
  • The price was the main reason I didn't go for the Chicco - that and the fact that I liked the raised changing tables on the Graco's better. Granted, I ended up registering for one that was only $20 cheaper than the Chicco, but I liked the Graco features much more.

  • Even though it is to early for us to register, I have started peeking around Baby Bargians/Consumer reports and noting the items on the BRU website. I also like the Chicco PNP better than Gracco. I haven't heard anything abou tthe sheets, but I like how the changng told folds down instead of having to be removed, and you can use the mobile/bassinet insert as a Mini gym.

I used to work at BRU and I will say, Chicco products are by far, easier to set up/break down.

I would keep it on there and see if a few people chip in for it, if not do what the pp said and use gift cards/coupons to buy it yourself.

  • We have the Chicco high chair and have a love/hate relationship:

    1.  The tray is finicky to put on, I don't know if it's just ours or if this is a universal issue.

    2.  We love that the seat reclines and that there are multiple slots to adjust the straps.

    3.  Love that it's a 5 point harness and not just a waist clip as we have a climber that it keeps contained.

    4.  It is a little hard to clean, but I got a dust buster for Xmas and that seems to do the trick.

Three sets of friends have the Chicco PNP and love it, btw!

  • Are you worried that your family might not want to spend that much? To be honest, most of the time people buy you clothes at your shower or other small baby items. You will probably end up purchasing it anyways (with your own money, or gift cards or store credit for the items you take back) so you might as well register for the one you want. Or, register for both and if you get the Graco, return it and spend the extra $70.

We have the Chicco and like it and still use it often. Crib sheets fit it fine.
