Yes. I was 38 weeks and had been diagnosed with pre-e. It was extremely sudden; one minute I was at work eating five guys, and the next I'm getting a phone call that my lab results were back and I needed to go to the hospital immediately. I didn't even go home first!
I was not dilated at all , so they began the induction with a suppository designed to essentially irritate my cervix open. It caused uncomfortable period like cramps, and I had to lay still on my back all night to be monitored, but it wasn't too bad. I had it placed at about 8pm and was checked 12 hours later. Surprise: I had dilated to 6 cm overnight!! The midwife broke my water and really active labor started immediately. I did not need Pitocin until I was pushing. All in, I was in labor for 24 hours and pushing for 3 (hence the Pitocin at the end to avoid a vacuum delivery). It wasn't exactly my ideal birth plan, but It was a good experience and I was able to del8vet with minimal interventions given the circumstances and no epidural.
Yes, my water broke at 36 weeks with DD, but she hadn't dropped and I hadn't dialated at all. She was not ready. I remember them giving me a pill to put under my tongue first... Then later was pitocin, I think. Anyway, the whole induction process started around 8pm. Painful contractions began around 11pm, and baby was delivered vaginally at 3pm.
I was induced at 38 weeks with my first for pre-e, and was in the same boat as @longliveregina, in that I was completely fine (no symptoms at all aside from swelling, that we had chalked up to the fact that it was a VERY hot miserable summer), then I went for my regular appointment and was sent directly to the hospital. I was given the suppository (cervidil) to dialate me, because I was was not dialate at all. They said I probably wouldn't have contractions until the next morning because DD was still high and I wasn't dilated at all, and they planned to take out the cervidil 12 hrs later. I was fully dilated in about 7 hours, so they took it out early. It was still a long labor after that (about 22 more hours) but I had a vaginal delivery, and the doctor really focused on just keeping me from getting too tired, because it was mainly so long because DD hadn't dropped, and we were waiting for the contractions to help move her down before we messed around with pushing.
Yes! Successful vaginal birth - awesome docs that took things slow: one night of cervadil, morning with (idk what pill) evening with PIT, took a night off to let me sleep, another day with PIT, finally broke water late night and labor got started and baby was here 5hrs later! All in all for an induction without dialation at 37wks it went great!
Omg thank you girls so much for the replies. You all give me peace of mind. I will be getting induced next week(39w), but my DD is still soooo high up and I have no dilation whatsoever. I was so concerned that I would end up with a c-section being that my body isn't ready. I should expect a long labor though right? Thanks again for the replies
Thanks for asking this question @jeanette1117...my doctor will be discussing induction with us tomorrow at my appointment due to GD and hypertension (blood pressure has been great, but apparently they don't like to go past 39-40 weeks with those issues). 2 weeks ago I wasn't dilated at all...he's going to check me again tomorrow.

Yes me too! With my DD I was finally induced at almost 42 weeks. I was 0 effaced and no dilation at all! They started cervidill at 8pm and contractions started very strong at 1:30am. Was in active labor a couple of hours later. Finally got an epidural around 8:00 am and went to 10 cm by noon. Pushed for an hour and she was out. So around 12 hours of labor and it worked great for me!
Im 39 weeks tomorrow so hoping to go into labor on my own this time but inductions are not as scary as people say or maybe I was lucky. You'll do great and we get a cute baby at the end so WIN!

long process, yes, when you aren't dialated yet its usually day or two to get things moving--but not long "labor" per say! Bring things like books and snacks-be prepared to have company or talk with nurses, or watch tv. for me it was very very un-eventful and absolutely painless for two-3days, only 5 hours of actual active labor.
I was also induced before things even started. My water broke at 37+6 so they started me on oxytocin, I was on the drip for a whole day with little to no progression so they turned it off to let me sleep because I was exhausted! I woke up and they started it around 6am, things started to progress and when I hit active labour I had my daughter 2 hours later. It was a great birth experience for us! Long process yes, but active labour may end up being very quick. I was having painful contractions for 26 hours but only 2 of those hours were actually active labour. Only tip: SLEEP. It's so hard with everything going through your mind and the start of the contractions but try and get some sleep while things slowly happen.
Thank you all for your responses, encouragement, and suggestions, I hope things get moving on their own so that I won't have to be induced, but it's really assuring though that things can indeed get going without any dilation when induced. Totally appreciate all the comments! Good luck to you all!
@jeanette1117. Thank you so much for posting this. I just found out today that I'm being induced at 39 weeks, which is 4 weeks from now. I was starting to panic about the added risks of induction but a lot of previous posts are definitely helping ease my mind a little.

You are welcome. Hope things start moving on their own for you since you still have 4 weeks to go. Best of luck to you and your LO.
I was induced with both pregnancies and had a vaginal birth both times. First labor was 28 hours, second 39 hours. They have a way of making your body do what they want. I had zero dilation on induction both times. They inserted pills (the same ones they use for abortion ironically) into your vagina to ripen and soften the cervix. I had three doses of that and my water broke on its own for my second labor. Unfortunately my doctor during d-day was very pitocin driven and it put our baby in distress towards the end. But overall - I had a vaginal delivery both times. My body was definitely not ready to go into labor at 34 or 35 weeks either time. Definitely don't give up hope on having your ultimate delivery! Just if it is induced bring something to keep you busy/occupied for a while. Netflix and amazon prime were our saviors during labor. Especially since I was only allowed clear liquids for 39 hours (want to see a pregnant woman get mean? Starve her on top of labor). On that advice - eat very well before you go in for d-day - it may be your last decent meal for a bit.
Thanks for the response, encouragement, and advice. Will go in thinking all will go for the best. Were your babies dropped around the time on inductions. I'm 38 weeks and she's still sooo high up. I walk to try to make her come down, but she seems too comfortable up there
Nope - never got to experience the "drop" everyone else has. Obviously during labor they engage eventually into your pelvis when closer to delivery - but both my boys were high up at induction. You can still use a labor ball/peanut ball too during labor to help put them in the correct position. I used a peanut ball last time and it helped to keep me comfortable in an uncomfortable bed.
