Back pain?

Ladies,

This afternoon while I was at work I started to notice that my lower back was starting to hurt pretty bad. But not like normal back pain, more of like a cramping sensation that doesn't go away right around the area where back dimples are found. I feel like it's getting a little better. Do any of you know what this could be? I'm thinking it could be from me sitting in a shitty chair all day, but I've never had any issues like this. I do have a history of scoliosis and I have torn all of my lower back muscles when I was a teenager. I feel like I can't get comfortable and it's making me crazy!

Re: Back pain?

  • @tyannejohn for me, lower back pain has been an early sign of each of my pregnancies. Lots of women tend to get pain in the 2-3 trimester as the uterus expands and pushes on back muscles.

My my only suggestion is to start back exercises now. If you know yoga poses (or can google) the cow and cat poses are good for strengthening those muscles. I'll be doing mine every night

  • That's what I'm thinking everyone I've talked to says its probably normal since I'm so tiny, I feel like my hips are trying to stretch out. Thank you for the advice I will definitely look into it!
  • I totally have this. I didn't have it with my last pregnancy, but I was in way better shape/health at that time. I've already started seeing my chiropractor, and I'm hoping it will help. I saw her all through my last pregnancy, and had a really painless 10 months.
  • I'll have to see if my chiropractor will still work on me being pregnant. I googled posterior pelvic pain during pregnancy and it's exactly what it feels like but it says it doesn't hit until the 2nd trimester... Yay me.
  • If you can ask your OB or Family Dr to do urine sample, I found out my pain was from a UTI I had no clue about since I didn't have the tell tale sign of burning sensation. It  can also easily be from posture or sleeping in a way that your body no longer finds comfortable.

  • Hmm, I didn't think about that! I'm thinking it has a lot to do with how long and the way I was sitting today at work. I didn't think it was anything major I just cannot get comfortable.
  • I have ankylosing spondilitis and definitely notice it gets worse in pregnancy. The joints loosening up does not help me haha! STanding for too long or sitting for too long makes it worse, laying down is typically the only thing that sort of helps

  • I had horrible horrible back pain with first pregnancy. Chiropractor and stretches.  For me exercise was KEY. The more active i was the more tolerable the pain....oo and your SO should be required to give regular back rubs ;)
  • I've had a lot of lower back pain/aches this time around. I can't remember with my first pregnancy if I had it this early. I'll just blame it on everything starting to stretch due to the lack of fitness I've had in my life the past few years
  • I feel like mine is from everything stretching, I have a lot of scar tissue in my lower back that may be flaring up. When I woke up this morning it had went away and then I started cleaning house and bending over to sweep and it came right back.

Chiropractic care is safe up until deliver and is highly recommended! Adjustments are exactly the same until you can no longer lay on your stomach. Just be sure to tell them on your next appointment.

  • @Cythe good to know! Thank you!
  • I had lower back pain my entire pregnancy last time and it just started up again this time.  Luckily it's just a nagging dull ache which I can live with but it is annoying.  I found warm baths helps ease mine especially after a long day.  Just make sure it's not a hot bath.
  • Yup, totally normal. Not only have i experienced this with all my pregnancies but I get it with EVERY period. Usually my first day... which is how i knew i was pregnant. I got the lower back pain but no bleeding. I am also "tiny" and have had scoliosis since middle school. Just try heating pads on low heat or ice. Theres really not much you can do.. and it will only get worse in the 3rd trimester. Luckily some relief in the 2nd. Good luck
