Cant Calm Nerves

I dont know what I can do to calm my nerves. I was pregnant 5 years ago and I lost my child. It wasnt a normal miscarriage because I didnt bleed or anything. I went to the hospital when I was 10 weeks cause I was having a hard time breathing and they found my baby stopped growing at 8 weeks. Now I am pregnant again. 12 weeks and 4 days. I heard the heartbeat at 10 weeks 2 days and it was around 160. Im just nervous cause I barely have any symptoms and I am barely showing. I dont know what to do to calm my nerves.

Re: Cant Calm Nerves

  • I'm so sorry you feel this way:( I'm also still very nervous after a recent loss in October. Lots of women don't show in their first full pregnancy until 16 to 20 weeks. And you are now in the point of the pregnancy where the placenta has taken over so your hormones tend to level out. You feel more energy, less sickness, and generally feel pretty normal at this point. I love the second and third trimesters due to this. I bet all is well with your baby, but I understand your concerns due to your history. I'd call your midwife/OB tomorrow and see if you can come in to get a check on the HB or maybe even an ultrasound to ease your mind.

  • Hi there... I totally feel you on the nerves!  My son had complications after delivery so I feel like something is bound to go wrong this time too....

I bought a fetal doppler and that has been a life saver.  Not sure if you have one or an interest in buying one, but it has been amazing getting to hear the heartbeat whenever I am feeling anxiety!

  • Thank you so much
  • Thank you. My best friend makes fun of me cause she says i worry too much but i cant help it. I think whenever i have my next doctor appointment i may calm a little more.
  • @Jossey91 I feel the same way! From the first moment I found out I was pregnant I never stopped worrying. I think it just comes with the territory of being a new mommy. I had barely any symptoms from the beginning which of course freaked me out. I've since had 2 scans at 10 weeks 5 days and 11 weeks 6 days & both times we heard a strong heartbeat of 159-160 and the baby looked good! Measured 3 days behind my LMP which of course has me worried again, but doctor reassured me everything is fine.  Still at 13 weeks 1 days I'm still on edge about things going wrong but I'm trying to stay positive. I still don't have hardly any symptoms (occasional heartburn and constipation) and I have a little more of a belly now since the past week but that's it. I definitely understand your concerns and I'm here for you
  • Completely understand. I'm 15 weeks now, I've had close monitoring having previous losses:being an IF patient but after 5 ultrasounds & hearing the heartbeat again on Tuesday I can't seem to shake it. I think like others have said - we probably won't ever stop worrying.
Im trying to dive in a bit more - made a purchase, telling people as I see them. I have moments of "but what if" but less and less.
i hope you feel better about things soon - the 13th week seems to be big for women and the worry lessens but be sure to let your doctor know about your anxiety around it. My dr had been very helpful and understanding - talking with her regally helps. She actually just taught to use the Doppler I just got prior to me using it - she's not a fan of me having it but said she'd rather me be less stressed and know how to find the heart beat. Lol

  • When did yall start showing?
  • In my head I started showing at 12 weeks but I have a very short torso. Honestly, only DH and I think I'm showing.  I still fit in all my regular clothes so there's definitely not much in there. A lot of people don't show until around 16 wks on their first pregnancy. Everyone is different and I wouldn't worry about this. One of my girlfriends looked the same until around 6 months and then her belly magically popped.
  • It's totally normal.
I've have a daughter and I still worry now. Everytime I wipe it's like a moment of truth. I just say a prayer for the baby everytime I feel some doubt. Every appointment makes me feel better.
The unknown in pregnancy is rough. I'm not much of a worrier outside of it. I'm super chill about my daughter but I can see her lol.
I personally didn't get a doppler because I know I'd be a wreak if I couldn't find it and it's a common thing to happen.
My belly pops early (huge bloat that stays sll day and then gets harder), especially with the 2nd, but it doesn't really help calm the nerves. Feeling kicking does... but they of course they decide to stop for a while and you try everything for hours to wake them up. A lot of women don't pop until the last trimester, especially for their first.

  • Same here. At 12 weeks last week I thought  I was starting to show. My husband says he can see a difference. I'm only 4ft 11in and I have a short torso so I don't know if that makes a difference. I previously weighed 100lbs but now I'm up to 104. I don't fit into my jeans anymore.  I wake up in the am after I go to the bathroom and I have a bulge. But it doesn't feel hard yet, which worries me. I'm 13 weeks 4 days and it still looks the same as it did last week.  I dunno if it's still bloat or baby.
  • I understand the worrying too much element- not because I personally worry too much (actually, I'm even-keeled), but because my own mother is a born worrier. I'm 33 and she goes on Flight Aware every time I travel; when we part ways after a visit we text to confirm the other made it home safely.
You're a mother! The worrying comes with the territory. Explore stress relief- what helps? Exercise/yoga? Reading novels? Prayer? Therapy? Good ole commiseration here on discussion boards?

  • Something pregnancy does to you specially if it is your first baby carrying because that happen to me as well i miscarried in spring 2015 and i got pregnant winter of 2015 and now have a healthy baby girl. Usually depends on the body you can start showing in mid 2nd trimester. Hang in there you will be fine but the feelings you can't push away hopefully as each doctor appt goes you will feel better as to the growth of the baby and your belly go that is what help me with my last pregnancy as far as not feeling symptoms you are lucky not many experience no symptoms during pregnancy. You got this :)
  • I really appreciate all of yall replies.
