Infertility

Have you had to pay for your beta results?

i went in today for my labs and was told I needed to pay money to get my results otherwise it would be 5 days.  If positive they schedule ultrasound, no further testing.  Is this normal?  My first ivf cycle. I'm only 8dp5dt

Re: Have you had to pay for your beta results?

  • I've had to pay but only when I got testing done at outside labs

  • Yeah I can understand that. This was at my clinic. I can pay to rush it to get the results today or wait 5 days.  They only do testing once and then if pregnant schedule ultrasound. I am so confused.
  • I'm sorry @Kris107

Yes! I had to pay over $500 for one of my betas. This was also at an outside lab.

If you are doing them at your clinic, I would check your contract to see what was included.

ETA: Did your RE tell you to go in today at 8dp5dt? To me it's sounding like they ordered a 13dp5dt beta and if you want one sooner you'd have to pay OOP?

  • I honestly find this kind of ridiculous! How can you wait 5 days? They usually have to retest in two to see if it doubled. How will they know to retest?!???
  • Yeah they test at 9dp5dt but I was traveling tomorrow so they said I could come in early no problems.  The nurse apologized for not telling me of the fee for the testing. Out of spite I didn't pay.. I feel like if you are a huge we'll know fertility clinic you should have the lab ability to test. I'm just moody. Probably not a good sign.

And pcosat25 -- that I don't get either.. the lady who did the lab work seemed really clueless as I was asking her questions she brought over another nurse and said the same thing this is just a blood draw to tell if I'm pregnant.

Not how how I expected today to go.
  • @Kris107. I'm sorry.  I would have been thrown off, too!  Unfortunately not all lab techs are equally knowledgeable, either.  I do love mine. But we had a whole slew ordered - hormonal plus genetic.  One genetic test we are doing at a different lab because we price-checked around, (<i>she</i> actually did it for me, credit where it's due), and it'll be $1, 000 cheaper there.  Boom.  So I'm all, "I know the doctor ordered the tests before 10AM, but that's really just because of the hormones, Right?  Like if it's only the genetic one, that can be any time of day, right?  Your chromosomes don't fluctuate throughout the day."  And she's all, oh, no, they can change!

Uhm... of course the tech directly at the other lab looked and didn't see any TOD indicators anywhere on the test protocol itself.  So whatever.  But I just thought that was so silly - a lab tech telling me your chromosomes change throughout the day like that!  Wut???? Lol

Hang in there, enjoy your trip, and fx for good news soon... :)
  • @BusinessWife Ha ha! Oh, those silly chromosomes. Always changing things up for us during the day! We would be pretty silly-looking people if our chromosomes changed on the regular :)

  • @Kris107 oh I understand that feeling, one of my previous attempts was in Czech clinic and I was thrown away like immediately when they have told us that the sum we have been talking about in emails is just a part of a larger sum we were going to pay in order to make everything work out. but eventually nothing has worked out at all and our decision to stick with that clinic was only based in our tiredness of the everlasting search for the clinic....
  • That seems strange. My IVF package includes all my blood draws. My previous IUIs and even natural cycle betas were covered by insistence because it is billed as a pregnancy thing not an IF
