Doppler at home

yes... I know it can be one of those hot button issues on whether or not we should be using these at home... but, after 4 m/c I broke down this time I bought one. I am trying not to use it too much... I have tried 3/4 times so far over a week and half which is probably too much. BUT, I did finally tonight find it for the first time!! I am 9.5 weeks so that was pretty exciting! Of course I only listened for about 15-20 seconds and the batteries somehow died... (Insert side eye here).have told myself now that I found it once I am reserving myself to a once a week check up, max. and will hold off all together on the weeks I have u/s or appointments where they will be checking in office. My craziness will probably continue until I can feel movements so, I'm just trying to embrace it.... it always seems to win anyway so why pretend

Whoops I forgot to add.... is anyone else out there using a home Doppler? If so, when did you finally get lucky and hear that heartbeat?

  • There are a few fetal Doppler threads already that have the answers you are looking for. You might try searching those. :-)
  • Oh. Whoops! I admittedly went back 6 pages and figured screw it.... so, I did put in a partial effort.

  • I want one!!
  • as of tomorrow I am 11 weeks 6 days.

I ordered a fetal doppler & got it in the mail sat !

no such luck, and it really worried me.

I have a friend who is a ultra sound tech she said that in bigger women you usually can't hear it with a home doppler until 14 to 15 weeks . ( I am a bigger women )

but I went to doc today and all is well ! heartbeat was 143 I will try again in a week or 2 :)

but I will say I have a friend who is only about a week ahead of me and she has heard her baby's heart beat with a at home doppler and she was around my time as well if not earlier.

    good luck ladies !
  • I got my doppler last year and with that pregnancy I heard the heartbeat at 7+4! Took me about half an hour but I found it. This time I waited until after my 8 week ultrasound and listened to it during my 9th week. I listen about once a week but not for longer than 5-10 minutes. Listened last night and found it after about 2 minutes. When I got it last year, I watched about 3 different You Tube videos on the best way to find it and what I've found is I start right in the middle from under the belly button and slide down to the pubic bone. Then, very slowly I go to the left and listen for that little "chugging locomotive engine" (as I like to call it, lol). The key is to turn it off and put it away if you can't find it within like 20 minutes or however long you can stand it.
